I'm pretty sure the second fish was a white bass. and a nice one too! One way to tell them apart is a white bass will have one tooth patch on it's tongue while a hybrid will have two. I can always remember which is which because a hybrid will get bigger than a white bass and two is bigger than one. Sounds silly yes, but that's how I remember! Thanks for another great video Mike!

Hybrids are my favorite to fish. Personal best for me is 12 lbs from the Truman Dam Spillway. Have had luck in Truman trolling umbrella rigs with 4" - 6" sassy shads (White or Chartreuse) with road runner jig heads back in the day before the new umbrella regulations. Caught a lot of hybrids in the 5 - 10 lb range doing that. Have not fished them above Truman in many, many years as I do not have a boat. But June was always my favorite month to go after them. Keep up the learning and more Hybrid videos. Would like to see some Walleye ones as well if you ever want to give that a try. Thanks for all you do for us fishermen.
I tried fishing for hybrid on the upper truman dam. No luck at all. I also have no luck catching live shad. I figured that I'll quit fishing that lake. Lol
2nd one was a whitebass(sand bass). Whites have a single tooth patch in middle of tounge near the back and the stripes are more faint with only 1 that extends to the tail. A hybrid will have 2 distinct patches and the stripes are more distinct and usually broken with several extending to tail.

In my 40 years of on Norfolk some big whites can have a few broken lines while hybrids will have a lot

You definitely got a good start on it Mike. Hybrid fishing is fun, rewarding…but very challenging. They are often hard to pattern and they are constantly running around the lake. Your technique is good and I’m no expert, but just a couple of suggestion. Your hooks, weights, and leaders are on the larger size of the spectrum. Try going a little smaller and see if that helps by letting the bait be more natural. Sometimes it helps.
I like live bait the best, but during the heat of the summer it’s hard to keep them alive and active as the water gets hotter. And I see you had gizzards. Gizzards don’t do well if you drop them really deep. When this happens we go to grocery store mussels…garlic flavor. The ones people cook and eat. Some come in the shell and some not. Yeah, they stink and are a mess, but they will catch hybrids in the summer. Mussels are hard to keep on the hook. Look for the hard gristle in the mussel and make sure the hook passes thru that gristle. You can also do cut bait. They will hit live or cut bait pretty good, but a dead whole bait is usually not too good. Hope this helps and thanks for all the content you put out.

Grayline 17 gallon. I use water softener salt and keep Alive chemical.
Did you net the shad you were using, or are you able to buy them?
