Lots of really juicy speculation to bite into on this one, Randy. I really love the idea of the Rocky Port being an inside job, it would add even more greyness to the story. I also love you covering Rocky Port in particular, it reminds of me when you also dove into freezing arctic waters to rescue a downed ship of 24 schoolchildren. Awesome theory as always Randy!

I love how if this really was Sword orchestrating everything then perhaps BB has actually been outsmarted this whole time and is only in this position because they needed him there for now. Especially given that Kuzan, Coby and Law are all now in close proximity again - a perfect way to try take him down from the inside.
And, then we'll have the classic "I want to do this but I'm not capable enough so I want your help, Luffy" moment with these sword characters because Blackbeard is setup to lose only to Luffy and no-one else

I don't think there was ever any helping Blackbeard becoming an Emperor. Teach was gaining that title whether SWORD wanted him to or not.

Wang Zhi being a distributor of the weapons made in Wano makes a lot sense. Since Law was involved with him, He was probably known by another name too. Maybe he was also the one that has received the job of hiding the training place of CP-0 agents.
Kaido didn't mention Wang Zi, so it's possible that Dolflamingo sold him weapons without Kaido knowing because Kaido hated his colleagues in the rocks
Fun historical fact: Wang Zhi was the captain who brought the first Europeans to Japan in 1543, the Portuguese merchants Antonio da Mota and Francisco Zeimoto. They ended up wrecking in the island of Tanegashima, and the local lord helped them repair their ship. Another possibly One Piece related fact is that they used a Ryukyan woman named O-tama to translate from Chinese to Portuguese. This first arrival of Europeans in Japan was key because they introduced the arquebus, long firearms (in Japanese they were called teppo or tanegashima), which were key to end the Sengoku period.
I feel like there's still an element missing. Like we still don't have a puzzle piece. But with what we have, the theory and speculation is sound and highly plausible.

I love this so much. Lately I’ve been thinking about the days when one piece theories were mostly about the real life pirates that inspired the characters. Kidd, Bonney, Drake, Roronoa, Blackbeard all real life pirates and there were so many theories using their legends as the basis for speculating on where the story would go. Man I miss those days!!!

Very succinctly put, ties together a lot of the loose ideas I've had around the incident (especially how it pertains to SWORD) really well while adding stuff I hadn't thought of like Wang Zhi' real life parallel. Great video, I definitely think this is touching at what Oda is planning to show us soon.

I think Warlords are a mix of what you said and the European version of that which is a Privateer. They were basically pirates but could only steal from certain ships and had to give a lot of the spoils to the crown but they basically were given a free pass to attack and steal from other merchant ships that weren’t on their side.

When you were talking about Wang Zhi ( the real historical one ) something clicked in my head.
One of Wano’s biggest themes was betrayal..
Kaido talked about betrayal a lot, and we know that the Rocks crew had a lot of infighting due to their egos about being powerful pirates themselves.
Taking into account Wang Zhi’s historical background, what if Wang Zhi was actually the 1st Warlord, or a Pirate-spy? This could explain how Garp was able to track down Rocks quickly, because the WG could’ve been receiving intel from Wang Zhi about Rocks’ whereabouts and plans on God Valley.
After Rocks’ downfall, Wang Zhi could’ve been promised to be left alone and do his own thing looking after Beehive island, while whitebeard formed his own crew, big mom formed her crew, kaido did his thing, shiki did his thing, etc.
Edit: If Wang Zhi was also the first warlord or just a pirate who was persuaded by the WG to be a Rocks spy for them in exchange for future rule over Beehive island, this could also be additional explanation as to why the WG was so frustrated with the current Shichibukai. The first one they had actually did his duty and they were able to “trick” him, but the rest of these guys are essentially in a weird way still free and doing not obeying the WG unless threatened
That's why I brought it up early in the video. See, I believe Rocks was a "good" pirate. So Wang Zhi falling somewhat in line with that is my favorite plot line for the theory.

You are misding a key thing. Blackbeard has specifically thanked Koby for his help. I think Koby may have saved Blackbeard. Blackbeard has a pattern of getting into a situation, getting stuck and needing someone to come along to get him out of the mess.

I genuinely think punk hazard was a wrestlemania style situation where sakazuki and aoikiji came to terms of an agreement with aokiji becoming kuzan, getting his leg ripped off for the believeable effect of “joining up with blackbeard”

Glad to see OPTubers getting hip to the proper transliteration of Words in Other Languages and not just assuming which vowel variants are being used leading to MOST Pronunciations being inaccurate so that they give us weird fully translated names that then sound awkward cause of missing probably SEVERAL Japanese Wordplays and so on used in writing around the names in an inside joke with only the japanese native speakers... i personally just simply think that the big thing in thriller bark with the elephant legs was not Wang Zhi, it was silver Axe, Wang Zhi is probably a character which we never saw, I know it makes sense for it to be the big thing in thriller bark for having that chinese facial hair or whatever... Another thing i think is that, the big zombie was meant to be wang Zhi, but because of this massive plot hole, Oda is gonna change it to silver axe... maybe wang Zhi was the silhuotted Pirate from the rocks pirates in chapter 1096.

Minor correction: Law got his Warlord position by delivering 100 pirate hearts to the Marines. You see it very clearly during Punk Hazard after the reveal when Smoker knocks on the lab door and Law opens it like what are you doing here?
He might have got them during the Rocky Port incident but the stated reason Law got accepted into the Warlords was he delivered 100 pirate Hearts to the world government. So unlike Blackbeard bringing in a huge Bounty like Ace or originally targeting Luffy, it seems like Law probably caught 100 small fry about to enter the new world rookies like the fake Strawhat crew and world government was like well he's certainly diligent. Sure he's not Mihawk strong but 100 pirates in the 15 to 50 million bounty range? That's probably more than Mihawk has ever bothered to turn in. Last i heard is he took out one annoying upstart from the East Blue worth 12 million.
I actually think Luffy and that Vinsmoke kid were behind that.
I know this might be a bit late but dosent Blackbeard mention when he beats Law that it was his pirates whos hearts Law stole giving more evidance of it being linked to the rocky port incident

I believe Wang Zhi is not a human I believe he was a Kinokobito a mushroom person which is why mushroom people are recorded in Mama's books as well as Zhi being in reference to the Langzhi mushroom a fungus noted in folklore to grant people long lifespans.
The 100 hearts Law took from the pirates for the government must be used for something like the Seraphims or so.

Would seem odd that the world gave Koby primary credit for being THE hero of the event and Blackbeard gave him credit for personally taking down Wang Zhi if he were a mere bystander as this suggests. Blackbeard thanked Koby for helping take down Wang Zhi and was treating him like a comrade and listening to his advice-- even if he did insist Koby came with him once the situation cooled down. He did not extend any such courtesy to Law.

Definitely not the inspiration for the Warlords. That was clearly based off of the real life "privateer" sytem in Europe, as the various rival nations, who had only then relatively recently become shipfairing nations, were heavily benefited by having as many "pirates" as possible robbing/ sinking/ blockading/ raiding/ & comadering their rivals trade & navy ships. Many of them were in fact likely hired by them.

I do love this theory quite a bit, the only thing I don't agree with is the "frozen impel down prisoners" We actually have no proof that they're the same ones that escaped during the prison break. Tbh I thought it was established these were prisoners from Dr.Vega Punks time on the island. It's stated in the story that they experimented on prisoners there, example Kaido and King. I believe that's more probable.
I also think there's a timeline issue with this part of the theory. When the war had ended Punk Hazard had already been destroyed by the gas, that's why it was chosen for their fight. After Kuzan joins Blackbeard, I don't see how he could bring prisoners to a Kaido run island to store frozen prisoners.

Yeah it is Wang Zhi, Uchoku is just a mistake by translating the Kanji into Japanese pronunciation.
Your pronunciation is so close buddy… I am a Chinese speaker and would like to help you a little more… Zhi in modern Chinese romanization called Pinyin uses the ZH=JJJ it’s a J sound that lingers … now when you combine it with “I” it slurs together as an er… so Zhi= jjjer

I really don't think Law is an actual SWORD member, given his desire to find out the secrets of the D. clan, which is no no bueno according to the World Government. That being said, Kuzan probably saw value in Law becoming a Warlord, and so arranged a plan with him to do his thing at Rocky Port while Kuzan and Koby ran damage control, with Koby saving civilians and Kuzan taking down pirates/endearing himself to Blackbeard, while Law reaps the benefits of 100 pirate hearts and credit for the whole affair.
Ultimately, though, I think Rocky Port is the reason Law and Blackbeard are fighting now of all times. Law vs Blackbeard seems like a natural vehicle for Oda to reveal just what went down there, especially when you consider Teach just referenced it while interfering with Hancock vs the Marines. I don't see it being anything more than a quid pro quo affair. Blackbeard gains Beehive, Law gains the Warlord title.
