    I think front mounted limit compress switch, on the back is a pain in the rear (pun intended). Also guessing there's no need for the can cap, just go with electrolytic, but that could be me being cheap haha. Great work Martin. I perked up when i saw your Sta-level tease - Future project indeed.

      Thanks Jason! Most of the feedback in regards to the questions asked in this episode can be found in the comment section of Tube Opto comp kit page linked in the description. There's a clear tendency already that partially agrees with your feedback, but I'll give it one more day for the final decision until I start shooting the 3rd and last episode of this series tomorrow. Yes the STA-level... 🤩

    My guess is that the perceived increase in loudness is not only due to the transparent compression, it's also due to the LA2A also adding some subtle midrange harmonics too, it's well-known that the human ear is most sensitive to midrange frequencies.

    To my ears the LA2A adds some midrange plus also a bit of loudness boost to vocals, which is good if you want the vocals to cut through the mix, very nice sound that doesn't get too harsh to listen to.

    Hi, will this be sold as a chassis kit separately or inclusive of the transformers? If I have vintage transformers, is it possible to just purchase the chassis by itself? And lastly will this include the teletronix VU meter as well?

    • @analogvibes
      @analogvibes  Před rokem +1

      Hi, this limited edition "Silver Face" will only be available as a full kit. But all the parts and components in the bundle are absolutely top notch and following original specs. Yes - also the Teletronix VU meter will be included.
      Many of the critical parts are custom made such as the pots and of course the transformers and T4 cell. I.e. the vintage Allen & Bradley pots of vintage units had a very different log taper than modern LOG pots. If those modern ones were used we'd end up with too much gain way too early and that would mean you could barely turn up the gain knob beyond 15 (of 100) without the LA2A screaming at you. The same goes for the peak reduction knob. The pots for the kit are custom made to original specs of vintage Allen & Bradleys by Blore-Edwards in the UK (They are a supplier for NEVE). And as mentioned in the video above the audio transformers are custom made by AMI in the USA as a faithful re-creation of the vintage UTC A10 and A24.
      We tested my prototype against the 1967 Rev 2c "Silver Face" we based this kit on - from a friend of mine - and we even put of them both side by side on the mixbus of his SSL 4056G+ and he was absolutely blown away by how extremely close they were. Actually his exact wording was: "You gotta be kidding me! That's f**ing unbelievable!" 😂
      The only difference was that his vintage unit was acting up every now and then while my prototype was running smoothly - I guess his needs a recap soon 😉
      But in case you already have those critical parts, the grey version of this compressor is permanently available as a "chassis only" set on analogvibes.com. Step by step build guides and BOM etc. included 😉

    How much will the total kit cost?

    • @analogvibes
      @analogvibes  Před rokem

      The entire package will be 1.599 € including all high end parts & components, wiring layout and a 60 pages step-by-step guide with almost 500 photos. Makes it pretty much painting by numbers.
