Re: the raised stitching on the chair -- Embossed leather is a thing! I'm amazed by the result! I've seen people paint chairs before, but yours actually looks like something you'd actually keep after the video is posted (if I'm allowed to be blunt! lol). Way to go Daine!
Heck yeah! ✌😁 Listen, let me be clear - I will NEVER make a DIY for the sake of a video. It's so wasteful! I only DIY a project if I plan to keep it OR if it's for someone else! That's a promise.

That chair is fantastic. I've watched Debi, of DIY paint, paint upholstered furniture with her paint but, she does it differently. She almost dyes it with paint and water.

OMG THE FOOTSTOOL- so cute.
The driving through Ontario in the winter footage was already a CanCon moment but the Stuart Mclean books on the footstool brought it to a whole other Canadian Mom's place level. I know it's just a background detail but it gave me a very warm homey familiar vibe which is important right now.

I am doing this to a microfiber club chair following the directions to a T. We've had the chair for more than 15 years, is well-made and has been well-loved by dogs and humans. It was tired, stained, and destined for the trash heap. I am on coat three of the paint and it looks AMAZING. The microfiber feels like suede--even after 3 coats of paint it's still not super scratchy. I can't wait to get to the wax phase--this is going to be our new favorite "leather" club chair--and I didn't have to spend $1000 on a new one!

Paint is ordered! I am definitely trying this paint combination on a chair I've had for years. The chair is so well made and comfy but I really didn't want to spend the money to get it reupholstered. I would love to see how it wears! I’ve been thinking of doing this for a while now but I’ve been too chicken to do it in case it doesn’t wear well...
It does wear well and the nice thing is unlike upholstery, if you ever spill on it or get dirty, you can literally just touch up with paint!
It wears amazing, and actually repels anything liquid as well because of the paint and wax barrier. It does get slightly stiff, but that’s the feel of leather anyway. I love this technique.
Emily Cole no, not at all. You have to use thinned out paint as this is more a dyeing technique rather than painting, which makes the paint less rigid. Also stretches it out so you need less. There are many chalk painting fabric videos on CZcams. Just watch a few to see all the techniques and do what works for you.
@Emmy Bentley watch Debi's Design Diary. She created diy paint brand a clay base paint. She does it differently. She has done a couch and other pieces. Her couch in her house was done years ago and still looks gorgeous. Her way is like dying it and leaves material soft not leather like.
I thought for such a project (aka furniture you sit on) you'd need to add fabric paint medium to make the paint more supple? I've been dying to do my couch like this!

That chair was amazing! I've got a tub chair that my Pops gave me when my Nana died, it was her chair she sat in everyday so is very special to me. I've been wanting to get it reupholstered but it's guna cost me about $400! I thought about trying to sew my own slip cover, but now I'm thinking that maybe I could give this a go, I guess if I ruin it that I'll just have to fork out the $400 to get it recovered!

Awesome Job on This! I painted a Louis Chair about 10 years ago, and shared it on my blog and Instagram. It's still in my livingroom and still looks amazing. We've sat on it a million times and it's held up so well. It also had a pattern to the fabric beneath that only added to the look. It's solid white, and I love it. I love the details you added to address the leather look. And that footstool! Beyond cute, the lamps too, very talented young lady! Great job!

Ok, I'm a vegetarian and I'm no longer comfortable with authentic leather items. But I really love the look and quality faux leather furniture is pretty hard to come by at a reasonable price tag. So I NEED TO TRY THIS on a thrifted item RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! Thank you DIY decor Queen!!

Kit Lang No wax will cure after about 30 days so use it minimally til then. Look at Debi’s Design Diary channel on YT. She painted a velvet couch years ago. It does not transfer color. She used a different sealer though.

Just one question? Will the paint chip or fade off with wear?
The paint won't wear off but it may start to crack over time. I'll let you know though! It's holding up pretty well and I've heard great results from other creators who have had their chairs for 6 years +!!! Just take it slow, trust the process and give it good dry times in between!

I'm an obsessed DIY'er and lifeloing vintage thrifter who stumbled onto this video while looking for a helpful inspirational, no-nonsense tutorial on the best way to paint faux leather. Like a drunken sophomore trying to get lucky at a party, this usually means forcing myself to listen to a screechy voiced, poorly lit, and ill-informed numpty who is attempting to make their way towards a ridiculously useless point for way too long just to learn something.
BUT this one...She is a freaking breath of fresh air! She's sunshine! She's entertaining, likable, funny, has a great dog and probably a really cool Mom. Not to mention a great sponsor. If I didn't already have an Audible account, I'd be getting one. Danie, take my money! ;.) x
