Sometimes I show my Amazon videos of other parrots. He is not amused, and does what this bird is doing - thrusts his head towards the screen, which is what they do when they are pissed off. Territorial and jealous creatures, they can be, so usually I don’t do this very often.

At first I thought that this might be an idea for my Yellow Nape Amazon parrot i've had for 31 years since a baby. Half my live this year. I'm 62. But by 29.00 into it and especially at 29 min in, the parrot is just copying the vibratos and whistles and whatever else you don't want your bird to copy. Not enough uninterrupted repetitive words and sentences you do want. So for me no. bad idea.
I should have said my parrot is highly trained and I don't want to ruin what I have already taught her. I live in an apartment no problem. I could see my bird picking up some of those sounds. And I'm telling you they can last for years. But great entertainment if you don't care about that. Sorry I didn't clarify.

Sadly Lolly passed away suddenly a little over a year or so I think. Time goes so fast that it might have been a little longer than that. It was a shock when she passed.

How old is your amazon? Amazons are great talkers, but as a highly intelligent pet, they need tons of time spent on them and wont just say random words. Spend time talking and playing with your bird, repeating sayings you'd like them to say (such as "hello" when you come in, or "good night" when you cover them.) You'll never be able to 'make' your bird do anything. They are highly intelligent animals and as such can be quite independent. You can work with your bird so that you learn together. If you have any troubles, I would suggest finding a bird forum that suits you. You can ask questions about everything under the sun, and experienced people will answer you. My favourite is Avian Avenue. Research is key to owning an animal, and these forums can help you learn and make frineds with people with similar interests. Best of luck.

Get a couple of children's books and read to him/her. If you have kids, many of the same techniques you used to teach them to talk will work, but you will need more patience.
My aunt's Amazon Leo was a bird caught from the wild and only made sound effects, like the ringing of the phone or microwave. Maybe being domesticated has something to do with it?
They are highly capable of talking, but I have discovered that some people have voices with tones which are more likely to talk. When my sister in-law lived with us for a few months, my parrot repeated every word she said. But he rarely says anything to me now. My mother in law sounds almost exactly like my sister in-law, he will say lots of stuff to get her attention... it's pretty funny 😂
This Amazon does not want to stay there after about three minutes. I can read the body language, having had ny own Orange-Winged Amazon, and a grey etc.. Poor bird. I had to turn it off.

I loved Lolly and got to be Facebook friends with her Mom Lori. It was a true devastation that Lori hasn't gotten over to this day. Truly sad.

How old is your amazon? Amazons are great talkers, but as a highly intelligent pet, they need tons of time spent on them and wont just say random words. Spend time talking and playing with your bird, repeating sayings you'd like them to say (such as "hello" when you come in, or "good night" when you cover them.) You'll never be able to 'make' your bird do anything. They are highly intelligent animals and as such can be quite independent. You can work with your bird so that you learn together. If you have any troubles, I would suggest finding a bird forum that suits you. You can ask questions about everything under the sun, and experienced people will answer you. My favourite is Avian Avenue. Research is key to owning an animal, and these forums can help you learn and make frineds with people with similar interests. Best of luck.

Get a couple of children's books and read to him/her. If you have kids, many of the same techniques you used to teach them to talk will work, but you will need more patience.
My aunt's Amazon Leo was a bird caught from the wild and only made sound effects, like the ringing of the phone or microwave. Maybe being domesticated has something to do with it?
They are highly capable of talking, but I have discovered that some people have voices with tones which are more likely to talk. When my sister in-law lived with us for a few months, my parrot repeated every word she said. But he rarely says anything to me now. My mother in law sounds almost exactly like my sister in-law, he will say lots of stuff to get her attention... it's pretty funny 😂

The sound is too loud for the bird. They have very sensitive ears.
what nonsense. In the wild they live within a flock with birds, where the noises of the other birds in the flock are a lot louder then this.

This Amazon does not want to stay there after about three minutes. I can read the body language, having had ny own Orange-Winged Amazon, and a grey etc.. Poor bird. I had to turn it off.
