Ben, In one of your earlier videos on BFS you had said how this would open up a whole new adventure. Indeed it has! I took what I knew about bass fishing and started fishing from the bank. I learned how to adjust my casting technique to allow the reel to do the work and that exponentially improved my enjoyment. What happened next was completely unexpected. I took the same baits that I was using to catch river smallmouth and applied them to trout. I haven't fished for trout in years. Now I'm catching trout on BFS gear near my home on some of the best know rivers and streams in the Northeast. All of your videos have helped me along the way and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you doing them.

Thank you for pointing out the Aello and Shimano incompatibility. I called the shop and you all were really helpful troubleshooting. My Aldebaran BFS went on, it just took a little bit of muscle. Not the ideal fit but workable.

It’s pretty sick. The little Shower Blows 77 is awesome too. I’m pissed that I cast it off last night just as the tide flip so I got to watch it drift away. Strippers were blowing up and are always fun on BFS.

VERY VERY EXCELLENT INFO AT 33:00. I initially struggled with choosing the correct BFS casting reel for my Triza Aello. A Daiwa BFS reel fits perfect. I was worried I had a bad rod. I want to think the entire Triza casting rod group is designed for Daiwa casting reels. Everything is good now.

Great Video! I have always enjoyed ultralight finesse spin fishing and became interested in BFS after watching one of your episodes from a few years ago. I have since purchased rods, gear, and several small finesse hard and soft baits from you guys. The amount of JDM super high quality Finesse offerings is amazing right now! Thanks Hook Up Tackle! I have had a blast fishing ponds, creeks , and rivers for Panfish, Bass and Trout with all this great JDM gear.

The Megabass Valkyrie World Expedition 5'8" is such an awesome rod! I use it for jerkbaits, cranks, and really been liking it for Hellraizers! Great pond rod especially. The size is some getting used to, but it really is capable of throwing an oz if you ever feel like it. The hooksets are so fun, it goes along for the ride when you get a big one on it. One of my favs in my lineup for SURE

I've waited so many years for ultra light bass fishing to catch on in the US. It's just too bad the only companies putting out products for it are Shimano and Mega Bass. It's a shame such a fun way to fish has turned into an elitist way to fish with such a steep barrier to entry.

Just like any other style of fishing, there are cheap options all the way up to premium options. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, there are plenty of cheap rods/reels/baits on the market. If you want really good stuff, there’s plenty of that too 👍

    • @ericpettyfishing
      @ericpettyfishing Před 10 měsíci

We just use crappie gear or trout gear and fish it for bass. It's the cheap hack. Get a ultralight trout casting rod or crappie rod, and a bfs reel. Boom. Your set. I actually like my 8ft Berkeley lightning "trout" rod better than any BFS specific rod I have tried. Caught some 3-4lbers with it too. And it was 45 bucks off amazon. Little crappie crank baits, or trout baits work great. I caught my ultralight PB on a 1/32 jig head with a Bobby garland OG shad crappie bait.
I don't think fish know wich lures are made for what species.

Thanks for restocking the Megabass BFS X-70 & X-80 minnows. I embarrassed myself using them. I’ve always prided myself on jig fishing for walleye, so when I visited my favorite small dam outflow and got skunked on jigs, I was left feeling like Griff in a pond contest. I tied on an X-70 and proceeded to catch fish after fish. The walleyes just tore that thing up (elegy bone). I’m now looking at other suspending minnow baits in the 70-90 mm length range. And I bought an X-70 for a friend. Thanks for supporting the products by telling us the details of each…and for having supplier reps do the same.

Kind of on the heavier end of bfs, but the Triza Sparna with the stinger tip is super fun for finesse plastics and micro jigs. I have that and the pop x stick and I feel really well covered for bait finesse now.

After using the Aello for some time it feels like the best all rounder bfs rod you can buy for slightly above 1/32oz up to just below 3/16oz bfs baits. It does feel more inclined towards hard baits however, but it does fish open hook jigs wonderfully as well.
If you wanna do weedless / ewg hook stuff then you’ll need a faster tipped rod (I’m not sure what’s the best option) and then you’ll be set with everything bfs.
Anything at and below 1/32oz stick with the UL spinning setup lol, unless you’re very deep into bfs.

I went with the P5 F3-610X BFS. With 8 pound line on a Curado BFS reeel I'm flinging Giffon's and Karshi's a considerable distance. I was stunned at how far they fly. I haven't caught any bass over 1.5 pounds on this rig yet, but have pretty high confidence if I did hook into a 3+ pounder in open water the rod has enough beef to get it to the boat and it's gonna feel like landing a 10 pounder. haha. BFS is my fav way to fish lately. I catch more fish and have more fun than in recent years on conventional tackle. The Griffon is my all time BFS bait fav so far.

Ben - man, you keep amazing me with the content that Geoffrey and your team keep making.
I am a bass guy, but boy, it is fun tossing BFS!
I jumped all in 1.5 years ago and have no regrets except my wallet.
I have several of the P5s and a couple of JDM Expride and Poison Glorious rods as well.
I'm stoked to see the Megabass BFS portal.
So far, of all the reels, the Aldebaran BFS reel has been the reel I’ve found to be the most versital. Considering picking up a Calcutta Conquest BFS.
Have you spent anytime with the CC BFS?
Is it worth the money or stick with the Aldy?

Would be nice to know what line, test wt and reel gear ratio. Does seem all the bfs reels are rel high speed, which doesn’t get talked about much… so why are they all high speed and is bfs gear retrieve ratio the same as the larger cast reels with larger spools?

  • @codycantrell2780

Would the aello work well for 1/16 jig heads? Using crappie style jigs for rainbow trout and 1/16 neds for small bass in my streams/ponds. I would generally want a faster tip than the aello which seams best for trebles, but the rods like the cliffhanger and sparna seem to powerful to load based on lure rating. Really between the aello and siglette i think. Any suggestions?

OK. OK.. My two cents worth.. I own the pop x, cliff thrilling, bait finesse, wind buster, dark sleeper,madbull.. Obviously, Im a Megabass fan.. Real World results. Pop x is a noodle. Basically unusable for me. Cliff thrilling. Great for all moving/reaction type BFS baits. My favorite BFS rod. Period. Very accurate casting ability also. Bait finesse.. IMO more sensitive than the wind buster? Definitely a bottom contact rod. (What the hell are talking about Ben??). The wind buster compared to G-Loomis 852, 872.. Go with G- Loomis.. Reels. Go with the new Vanquish over the Exist(I own both). Treat yourself to highend gear... its amazing guys..
