Naming his son after the most famous pilot of WW1, he also was a qualified cadet and graduate from pilots school, Rommel had the foresight to keep his son out of the fighting
He also had the foresight to convince his son to "Fight another day." and to go along with the "honorable death" plot rather than attempt some kind of coup or fight with his own men against police and gestapo forces who would come for him and his family. It must have been so difficult for his son to surrender to that secret and bite his tongue. Manfred Rommel is a great example of the best qualities of masculinity, honor, and public service. Rest in peace, Lord Mayor Rommel.
@@AtomicElectronCo I find it very ironic is that he was friends with both the sons of the men whom fought his father, Monty & Patton, the weirdest family & friends gatherings ever I find it also very interesting that all 3 army commanders died from betrayal by their own country no less, rather than anything else, Rommel's cyanide tablet in the failed coup to kill Hitler, Patton's car crash because of his anti-soviet communist mindset, Monty was hospitalized and died under strange circumstances,
A man to aspire to. He saw the truth of people early in life...like he often said, "People believe what they LIKE to believe. When they're told what they want to hear, they'll believe anything."

Main point of this interview is Rommels strategy was to cause the allies such a bloody nose in attempting the invasion of Europe in order to create favorable conditions for a separate peace with the western adversaries. In order to reach this objective the allied invasion should have been thrown back in the sea within the first 24 hours. Obviously this objective was not met for reasons yet to be resolved. Please note that Allied supreme commander Eisenhower estimated the chance of succes 50/50. Several factors could have played an important role in the turn of events including treason on the part of the defending side. This however is contested and lacking sufficient documentation. I would be very interested in a more thorough analysis of the state of affaires up to and including D-day and it’s aftermath. Ons book to look for is by Friedrich Georg; Verrat in die Normandie.
