    I have been to IL a few weeks ago and my planning of a 10 days trip started ať Oren's CZcams chanel. Absolutely honestly, almost of 90% of the most important info, hints and recommendations I've got just there. What I utmost appreciated were his booklets, should there be any new ones of any other cities, Judaean or Negev desert (which is my next target) I would be one of the first to purchase. Israel is great country to visit and the way of its introduction done by Oren was/is the best for me. Thank you Oren really very much!! Dan

    As a frequent visitor to Israel, I posted my recommendations before. But for those who haven't seen those comments:
    1. Don't take a packaged tour. Packaged tours go to all the better known sites, skipping lesser known sites which are often more interesting. Packaged tours also rush you around. GET A PRIVATE TOUR! Private tours go at your speed, will go to sites you want to see, and will take you to little known sites which are well worth seeing. It is easy to get around Israel, but the first-time tourist would probably want a guide anyway. Find a licensed guide --- such as Oren. NOTE: A private tour will be more expensive, so go in a group with family or friends to share the cost. It's more fun with a group anyway.
    2. When picking your hotel, inquire about the difference between the bed and breakfast rate and the room and board rate. Bed and breakfast is just as it sounds. Room and board includes dinner. You want the bed and breakfast rate because there are just too many great restaurants in Israel that you do not want to miss. WARNING: If you take a packaged tour, you most likely will not get to pick your hotel and rate.
    Note: Jewish visitors should inquire as to if the hotel serves Shabbos lunch as well as Shabbos dinner. If you get the bed and breakfast rate, let the hotel know at check-in that you want to eat your Shabbos meals at the hotel. Also, check on the kashrut status before you go. Not all hotels are kosher. Also, some of the boutique hotels have only a coffee shop or may not have dinning at all.
    3. Pack light. Many hotels do have a laundry service. It will cost you, but you're not making this trip to save money, are you? Remember when visiting religious sites, immodest clothing is found upon, and may even be forbidden. So pack with this in mind.
    4. Keep a supply of shekels in your pocket. Taxis do not take credit cards, and neither do many food stands. You may have a problem getting cash from a smaller bank's ATM, so look for Bank Hapoalim or Bank Leumi. Visa and MasterCard are welcomed. Discover is not accepted in Israel.
    5. Don't worry about how good your conversational Hebrew is. Most Israelis speak English to some extent. As in many foreign countries, natives prefer that you speak in English rather than mangle their native tongue.
    I'm planning my next trip now!

      Do you have tips for traveling to Israel with kids? I’m dying to get there with my family!

    • @MFPhoto1
      @MFPhoto1 Před 2 lety

      @@mondaymorning4773 Make sure they pay their share?
      I don't have kids, and I don't know about yours, so I don't think I can give you good advice. One thing to remember, you will be doing a lot of walking. So if your kids don't like walking, you may have a problem.
      My mother's dream trip was to go to Israel with the entire family. We did that years ago, including the first trip to Israel for my nieces and nephew. I think they were about 11, 7, and 5 at the time. My brother set most of the itinerary and got a private guide. Some places we visited were strictly for children. They handled the trip quite well. The 5 year old, who is now 23, even made aliya a few years back and lives outside Tel Aviv.
      A lot probably depends on your kid's interests. There are various zoos and museums they may like. Tours usually skip these, but you might want to check them out.

    The first time I visited Israel, almost 25 years ago, my parents and I took a bicycle tour from אופניי מצוינות, much of which was through the Negev in February. It was an excellent way to see everything up close. My parents and I were more experienced cyclists, than others in the group (mostly New Yorkers), so didn't want to go as slowly as the others. We were given a list of turning in transliterations, that did not match the signs. I asked for a list of turnings with the Hebrew names, so the the next day I was given a set of instructions only in Hebrew. The guide, Chaim, thought that would shut us up, but I was able to read it, and we got to our destination two hours before the group, and had a chance to shop and eat street food. After that, each day Chaim greeted me with a big smile, and gave me a set of instructions, in handwritten Hebrew, but with annotations of interesting things to look for.

    • @MFPhoto1
      @MFPhoto1 Před 2 lety

      @@deborahfreedman333 I don't recommend Tzfat during the off-season. Everything shuts down around 5 pm in the old city. The last time I went was over Chanukah, but I was only staying in Tzfat because there were no decent hotels in Meron, which is the area I wanted to tour. I had to get a private guide for that one, but it was worth it. Only with the nearby restaurants closing early or totally closed, I had to take all my meals at the hotel.
      But if you do go during the tourist season, you can have a nice walk through the artist colony. Also visit the various synagogues. There is a good museum on the city's history. The old cemetery includes the graves of many great rabbonim, including the Ari, as well as the Tomb of Hosea. Don't forget the candle factory, also in the artist colony.
      I recommend the Ruth Rimonim Hotel.
