I'm pretty sure they don't have it any more, but back in the day they had an even smaller currently (I think called tix or something) that you'd get like 10 of every like 5 days you played and after you saved up like 100 tix you could buy 1 robux. But the kicker, is that every single day, the eachange rate between tix and robux would fluctuate up and down like a real stock market because of people buying and selling robux, so some days it would be 85-1, and others it would be 200-1

When they removed tickets is when I noticed that the site was going down the drain (proly started long before then but that’s when I realized lol)

I remember buying a script from someone with my Robux that would automatically exchange my tickets to Robux and Robux into tickets so that I would make a small profit each time. Took forever because the exchange rates weren't volatile enough to give you much profit.

Im just gonna say what's so generally uneasy about this: kids in their developmental stages should be no where near this thing. It should not be received with any enthusiasm. It really is one of the most foul tactics I've seen a company use. Kids don't have the maturity to understand that not everything has to be for some sort of value or monetary goal. This will start to shape their thinking to that perspective and incentivize greed, cutthroat strategies. And again, kids don't have the matured ego or esteem that would usually tell someone when there's a limit. But they're kids and theyll get all excited to do their best not fully comprehending that this method isn't the best for them. It's just what they were fed and man that is so sad... kids should be kids and be able to have a break just like the rest of us. Some things are fun just to experience them and I fucking hate that a "game" company would rob children of this. I hate them.

Yeah Nintendo took down the two of the biggest Roblox Pokémon games (Project Pokemon and Pokemon brick bronze). there are tons of remakes that people made tho.

A Roblox Dev with a "DayZ" remake actually got fed up after having his game completely stolen. He went on to create a game outside of Roblox onto steam, called "Unturned"
Unturned is a solid title, Glad to hear he escaped the roblox ecosystem. I expect that many future game devs will have similar stories
I played his DayZ remake a long time ago, called Apocalypse Rising I believe. The game at first became one of the most popular games on the Roblox website, before it slowly died due to exploiters. However, I believe there is a remake of Apocalypse Rising called Apocalypse Rising 2, which requires 100 robux to play but it's cool.

what's even more insane about this is that people will pay USD for commissions and development work on roblox. kids can actually make a good amount of money developing on roblox, just not through roblox's currency exchange.

In most Roblox dev teams the term "game designer" is met with confusion, I think I just realised why game design isn't really a part of the process on Roblox, everyone just keeps stealing ideas and maybe mixing them together a bit.
What you talked about at 11:55, is there a certain reason why amazon 'scaled to profitability' at that point in time specifically? You talked about stopping/reducing investments but amazon is still expanding in many different directions at large scales. My guess would be that the networking effects (probably the most important factor for a logistics company?) were getting stronger exponentially at that point but maybe someone else knows more about this. Just to let you know. It used to be even worse with Roblox only giving 250 dollars from 100k Robux. However, you'd earn Robux whenever a large amount of people would be joining your game passively. Which is now only related to people with a bought subscription/membership.
And you will also need a subscription/membership in order to do the transaction from Robux to dollars in first place, lol.
It was mentioned in PMG's video he's reacting to, same as company script. The 100k is still the minimum for a withdrawal and there's now an asterisk on the rate that says "old Robux may be exchanged at a different rate" with the link giving no data and the alleged 350 USD being drawn into question as to accuracy back in 2019. To put it politely Roblox is a shitshow and deliberately opaque AF for devs.
And we won't even get into how they handle stolen robux situations...
not only is the game very predatory a lot of the users are as well, when i was in the age demographic of roblox players the term 'roblox gf/bf' was wayyyy to big. there's absolutely children that have been and will continue to be groomed on that platform. honestly, if you're a parent the only time your kid should be online is when you're online with them tbh

this video didnt even mention the giant amount of copyright infringement happening on the website. about 40% of the front page use trademarked characters, sounds etc., mainly from cartoons and movies. lots of the games even use the same names. then there is also the "bypassing" community which is a quite large subgroup of players finding methods to upload explicit content to roblox, e.g. songs with swears, t-shirts with adult content, or even full on games that allow players to have coitus with one another.
i don't know if all of this still applies the way it used to in 2016 but I'm sure it didn't improve by much

Back when I played in like 2010, robux pretty much only got you cosmetics. I do remember using them to bid on advertisement space though. There was also no way for the creators to make real money. Everyone was just having a good time. :)

On the topic of Roblox. I remember browsing on reddit and in the comment sections some guy admitted he did roblox development on the side and after like 10 years the dude now makes over a million a year from the platform.
Btw, the exchange rate when withdrawing $350 of Robux is factored into the 75.5% cut that Roblux takes. Not that that makes it any better. As pointed out in the video, that's way too freakin' much. I just wanted to make that clear.
How much you keep from the transaction times the exchange rate = 0.7*0.35 = 0.245 = 24.5%

As someone who played semi-consistently for a decade, they only recently got better.
- The payout like 2 years ago was $250/100k Robux
- If you didn’t pay for their subscription, instead of the 30% fee, on Robux you make, it was 70%
I will say that the ad system is pretty good in terms of gaining interest. For 50 cents I got 7000 impressions, 400 clicks, and 90 people playing my game. After spending $5 and a week later, my game had around 50 active players
Oh and developers are also scamming other developers. I made a song for one of the top 50 games and I got 1000 robux.. I will say, I remember seeing that Roblox High School 2 was looking for 2 developers and they were paying 1.5 million robux/ month which is like $60k USD

Surprised that the language roblox uses for scripting wasn’t even mentioned. It uses a language called Lua, which is basically dead and ONLY used in roblox- it also has its own annoying format/syntax that isn’t really similar to many other commonly used languages like C# and Javascript. Part of why you can’t go anywhere else if your game does badly on roblox (like they mentioned).

There’s a lot of older folks that play ROBLOX surprisingly. I am in a community of traders, but I don’t play the game at all, and there’s quite a bit of older people. It’s crazy to think, but it can be enjoyable with specific games.

I'm honestly amazed roblox is where it's at today. It seemed like it was dying 8 years ago after being played out. They introduced their membership tiers and that seemed to be the end of the game after they started charging a $20/month premium tier that wasn't very successful and then now I hear it's one of the biggest things for kids today.

I remember I bought the best possible Roblox 'premium' and it never gave me the monthly robux I was entitled to. Roblox scammed me of 100 dollars.
The only way to beat the Roblox system is to become a Roblox focused streamer/youtuber. If you become popular the money you make from videos will be most likely taxed less from CZcams than from Roblox. Plus, if you become a big enough Roblox content creator you get a ‘Star Code’ in which you can promote to people when they’re buying robux to get a cut for yourself (similar to Creator Codes).
