To my brethren...In Tafelsig's embrace, I found my home,
A place where childhood dreams were sown.
In gangster land, where shadows crept,
I navigated a world where hope was kept.
In Mitchells Plain, a vibrant tapestry,
I bloomed amidst the trials that befell me.
With each rising sun, a new chapter begun,
A kid in gangster land, learning to overcome.
Streets lined with stories of hardship and strife,
Yet, resilience thrived in every child's life.
We played hide-and-seek with danger's gaze,
In the midst of chaos, we still found our ways.
In dusty alleys, where secrets were shared,
    Laughter echoed, unburdened and unimpaired.
With marbles in our pockets and dreams in our hearts,
We defied the odds, playing our own parts.
Amidst graffiti walls and whispers of fear,
We yearned for a future that held promise near.
For in our hearts, a fire burned bright,
Igniting dreams too powerful to smother or slight.
With scraped knees and wide-eyed wonder,
We dared to dream, our spirits unencumbered.
Though gangster land had its tales of woe,
We found solace in the friendships that did grow.
Oh, Tafelsig, my crucible of strength,
You taught me resilience, a precious gift.
Through trials and tribulations, I learned to stand,
A kid from gangster land, now strong and grand.
And as I look back on those formative years,
I cherish the memories, tinged with both joy and tears.
For in gangster land, I found a wellspring of pride,
A testament to the spirit that never subsides.
    Love: Yazeed ( resident @ 19 Keeromsberg, Tafelsig (1984-1996)

My brother and myself with a friend who was visiting from a different province stayed with his aunt in this area Tafelsig, Freedom Park which you walked through. So this friend visited us to hang out with that day at our place but he has a tendency to leave late at night between 11pm - 1am, we told him he can't stay late because of the dangers in Tafelsig, it's very dangerous at that time to walk outside. So that day he visited late and left around 12am, so my brother and I walked with to his aunts home, it a 15 - 20 min walk from our place to his aunt, keeping in mind that majority of the street lights don't work, and dark. You were near to his aunts house when you asked the guy to speak about Tafelsig, than you guys turned right, on the corner on your left where the white car was parked, so across on the the corner of that field, we saw to men, gangsters, we were probably like 15 - 20 meters distance from them, then we noticed the that the one man nodded to his friend to go to that house, the door was open, and went in straight to the room, and 6 - 8 shots were fired killing a man in front of a child and the mom, the three of us witnessed a hit taking place in that house. They saw us standing in the middle of road and saw everything, it was dark and we couldn't see their faces, they looked at us and looked at them, the crazy thing is we did not run away when it happened and was not afraid or scared. After the hit took place, the two men ran away across that field and we proceeded to walk our friend home which just 10 meter from where we witnessed the hit, then my brother and I walked a different route to our home just to be safe. This took place about 10 years ago.

Prefer your old filming approach. Not feeling these voiceovers. At 6:14 in this video, I immensely enjoyed the live footage. That is the real you bro. Also I think Hanover park was labeled most dangerous. I know a lady I was at church with she is a teacher at a primary school in Hanover park and every other week she is posting on fb about one of her students or former students who died because of the gangs. Truly sad though. We have many social problems on the cape flats

All people in SOUTH AFRICA has much healing to do - but you to come and classify a group of people that is appropriate to you - is disrespectful
i think you need to understand our history - we are now 30 years a democratic country but there is undeniably inequality and discrimination , unfortunately even under the ruling of the ANC - on paper it looks perfect , but in practice some things are still very discriminating ( i agree the view and expression of that individual ) is not appropriate but maybe it is coming from a place of anger that "coloured" people are regarded Black when it comes to the voting poles , but when it comes to dishing out work (job) opportunities especially in government sector - they tell you - you are not Black enough
my word to AFRICAN AMERICANS - when you come to SOUTH AFRICA ( and we embrace you all to come here and even stay here) but please DO NOT pack in your political understanding - LEAVE IT IN AMERICA - in fact before you board your plane - turn and face AMERICA for the last time and say "I FORGIVE YOU " and come as a FREED HUMAN being - otherwise no matter where you go , you still be a slave - and your slave masters still control you - come and meet people ( in person ) and have personal experiences , that you can make your own
    welcome to SOUTH AFRICA
