- The coffee and Knob Manufacturer makes all the difference. I ended up buying aged white genuine Fender pickup covers, scuffed them lightly with Scotch-Brite scouring pad just enough to take of the shine before immersing in coffee.

I have been drinking black coffee for over 20 years, and my teeth are just now starting to look vintage!?
lol that made me laugh
jajajajaja
lol!
LOL !!!
Enamel v plastic...
crazy how the time goes by and we want our stuff to look old, but back then they wanted it to look brand new
so coool! I've buy white knobs recenlty just bc they're cheaper than creamy tinted ones and tried thisand it works flawless
I Tried this method with coffee but after 72hrs found my squier pickup covers & knobs white color still the same & since I am Egyptian I know that our ancient Egyptians used some spices & flowers to color temples walls then I decided to use the Turmeric powder as them to get amber color & after only one hour my pickup covers and knobs became aged with amber color :)
Wonderful solution using Turmeric.
good advice.
Lightly sanding them would help speed up the process.
Did the tumeric solution and it worked great for the pickguard, the rest of the plastic turned dark yellow so just be careful how long you leave it and the amount you use lol.
@@CBGypsy03 Excellent. How much turmeric did you use? Warm water or cold? How long did you leave in the solution? Thanks
Love the video man 😂 love your style 😂
Guitar looks great at the end!
Great improvement .......looks awesome !
Looks great. They do make a set of cream pickup covers and switch/whammy tips, with a mint green trem cavity cover. I got mine at Guitar Center.
I did this and it really works
Good demo. Thanks
Knowing what is in instant coffee I am surprised the parts survived and not dissapeared :-)
Might wanna turn that top off water is precious.
nah, water is free clean and abundant. millions of gallons a day pumped right straight out of the ground on all the Fields in the valley below. Millions of gallons a day . his little sink wont effect anything. Good livin out here in the land of plenty !! CHEERS
water gets recycled, just not his water bill
Hey Mark...great video...thanks for including the variables of number of days, type of coffee used, and type of parts used...I bought some vintage colored Fender knobs and pickup covers that came fairly yellowed in comparison to what you got...but not as aged looking as how yours came out! Looks great! I haven't installed them since I've changed my mind on the end look of the Strat I'm modifying, but was still curious his this process worked...I'm curious how has the coloring lasted since then? Thanks for sharing! Hope you're doing alright during these challenging times! 😎🎸🐦🤘
Thank you, It's been two year's now and the discolor effect has not changed I'm quite pleased and a bit surprised.
Did you place the parts into the boiling hot mixture or wait til it cooled a bit?
Thanks in advance...great video!
That was awesome. Genuine Fender knobs. Folgers crystals. Fancy folks can’t tell the difference- lol. I’m gonna try soy sauce and/or Old English which is probably oil based. We’ll see. 👍
i think it darkened the knobs more than i wanted to, is there something i could use to remove it? planning on doing it again but not leaving it for more than a day
Nice video! I´m not a coffee man - so wil try with some Builder´s strength tea!
Do the knobs smell of coffee afterwards Cheers from Spain
great final result! What pickguard did you order and did you stain it too?
I got the pickguard from eBay, a guy from Great Britain, the only person selling Harley Bently custom pickguards. No stain just spray paint. Green base, blue metallic over it.
Good info, thanks
does it rub of or is it soaked in to the plastic?
Can i use this method on white guitar’s body??
Thanks buddy! Looks awesome. Did you do anything to the nitro of the body?
nothing
The problem is, when you scratch pickup covers with a pick you get white scratches, the plastic is still white, the knobs too, scratch them with finger nails get white scratches.
Never thought of that, John, so I Iooked closely at my regularly played strat knobs and covers. There aren't any white scratches. I picked and scatched at the knobs and covers, with a pick, (Jazz III Tolex), a toothpick, my fingernail. Short of gouging the material with a screwdriver, I could not produce white scratches. The coffee stain penetrated and is not just a surface dye, I firmly believe you must use a porous plastic material that the genuine Fender knobs and covers seem to use. I am more than pleased with my results and I appreciate your reply.
Coffee worked wonders on the dials but I couldn’t get it to take on my pickup covers. A combination of coffee and turmeric works in NO time!!
Did you start with white, vintage or aged knobs?
Just making sure if i should add cream to it...
Why not soak the pickguard in coffee?
use like a painters tray.
Awesome 👏🏻
Hi Mark SD , How could paint (aged) with coffee the guitar body?? (Epiphone les paul white) Greetings from Perú
Interesting idea but would probrbly mess with the wood. Maybe a dye.
Coffee stains my countertop but I've tried this also. I'm not usually patient enough for anything. So I just bought some aged ones. I read you tried to strip a Chinese guitar. LOL been there done that. I was younger then. I did one I ended up setting it on fire.
Fire, I thought about that, but I think you'd need a flame thrower.
Loool
ok but what about pickups covers..?
My experience is after market plastic wont stain with coffee whereas fender plastics will. A minute or two in very hot coffee will do it.
I agree genuine Fender plastics makes a difference.
Not too hot, I melted my pickup covers and they were unusable because they deformed so much.
mate just go to your local hardware store and buy a timber stain from the paint section and you can get it as much age / wear to it as you want
I think you should have aged a white pickguard in coffee to, as mint green does not look right on a white or blonde guitar imo, fiesta red and mint green work very nicely, but each to there own I guess .
When I first did this I had reservations and when done I wasn't sure. It's been awhile now and it's grown on me like my wife's dog. Thanks for the reply.
I got aged white knobs but there too dark. I’m pretty sure my guitar pick guard isn’t white though. It looks darker than white but lighter than aged white. What color is it?
It could be a pearl white, not sure.
It’s called parchment
Fendrix 69 thx
Please. Turn off the tap when not using it. It worked, it was good. I'll try with a pickguard. Thank you. And don't forget, take care of the water.
Great video!
Thanks
True story. After I lit it on fire with with gasoline I threw it out on the front lawn. My luck a cop was driving by and stopped and asked me what I was doing. LOL so I had to explain the whole freaking story to him. He just shook his head and walked away. LOL
Guitar Ocd huh?
Soak the pickguard in coffe!
Does it work with the knob that comes with a brand new made in Mexico strat?
A fender Mexican Strat uses genuine Fender knobs.
It should as they use genuine Fender knobs.
Typing paper? What’s typing?
MAybe try leaving em in the for a month
Wonder if he's on a water meter...
Dude, save some water!
I have an aged guitar w yellow knobs and guard I'm trying to make white again, any suggestions? Bleach is not working
Get new knobs?
Get a new guitar
you can also use betadine.
So much wasted water. I'm stressed.
im leaving my pickgaurd in the sun over the summer. we'll see how it goes.
How’d it turn out?
@@IAmChrisFleming it would probably melt
You'd better screw it on some scrap wood or it'll easily warp
Why not just buy the aged set? just sayin seems much easier
Do people know that when you use water, it goes back into the ground being naturally filtered (or a water treatment plant) until it reaches the water table, where it’s pumped back up to be used again, and again (and again)? Water is never exhausted. It doesn’t go to Mars after use. I question people’s logic and thinking process.
Its because of the indoctrination of commercials that tell you not to leave the water running.
It is also true that this finite quantity of water gets distributed differently in different locations depending upon variables such as the change of the seasons and precipitation. Here in South Texas over the past couple of decades we've been increasingly going into drought restrictions in Summer because our aquifer water table levels drop very low due to drought.
It looks like you used it on the body, too.
Hey Bro! Stop wasting water. Otherwise you're great! I subscribed!
tried this and sadly it didnt work
TURN THE WATER OFF!!!!!
What about the body? How u turn it into vintage white?
You need Ivory to get the yellow look.
take 1500 grit sand paper on the pickup covers and wet sand it first
Not for mark his have probably aged on there own by now my info is for the new people too the video
Cómo desperdicias agua viejo!
great
I've found strong tea works better and faster.
Just take the knobs off and leave em in the sun for a few weeks
such a waiste of water
Cool video, but you shouldn't be wasting water like that.
Turn off the faucet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not just play the guitar until it naturally looks vintage ?? What an idea! lol
I've been playing this guitar for 17 years, I ain't got another 17 years.
@@MarkSD I see your point! I just like My guitars to be shiny
Curry is better
Was just going to say that, get some masala on it!
yum
I would have taken a full shower with the water that you just let run in the sink.... Man.. Don't you care one bit? Small steps every day..
Good job by the way
Yer right I was not water conservative conscious. Thanks for the reminder.
Take it ez on him man
Geez. Lighten up (and read up on the water cycle).
Coffee does NOT work.🤬
Hey Dufass ... if you're using "Import" of aftermarket plastic it WON'T TURN COLOR! It's all about the quality of the plastic. And turn off the water, waster.
Hey Dufass why do you have to be am asshole?
