Yom HaShoah 2022: Faith & Healing

The mission of our Yom HaShoah commemoration continues - to remember the victims, honor the survivors, and educate the community about the history and lessons of the Holocaust. This year’s theme is “Faith & Healing.”
Our commemoration will be held virtually and will continue the traditional focus on St. Louis survivors through their eyewitness accounts of the Shoah. The program will also honor our community’s Holocaust Torah scrolls and include music, liturgical readings, and prayers. Descendant speaker Scott Lenga will give a short presentation about his family’s story of survival.

I'm watching a PBS showing of Ken Burn's " The U.S. and the Holocaust", a year-plus-old production, and i was surprised and broken-hearted to hear the story of the S.S.St.Louis, a luxury German oceanliner that was contracted to take a thousand or so Jews to Cuba, they'd then be settled to the U.S. from there. Cuba renigged on its contract, and then Florida authorities refused to let them dock and brought in. The S.S.St.Louis was named after our city, an interesting connection that makes the story more rel and identifiable to. . .

In this documentary, it also features a man who as a teenager was sent to St. Louis and he's interviewed in the movie repeatedly. I missed his name other than he stating he was given the nickname Guy" by his girlfriend. I hope he's well and thank you.
