    On the Lola bus...those faux tin tiles are approx 24 x 18 inches and are almost 20.00 each at Home Depot or Lowe's and I'm sure all major stores online. But these are a molded plastic and come in several colors and designs. They are very pricey so that's why you always see just a backsplash or small corner lol!! I found a 3D wallpaper that was identical for half the cost and painted it in a metallic copper for my rv's ceiling in the bedroom. It weighs nothing and after a top coat of clear super gloss. ...it looks and feels just like the expensive tin.
    These wallpapers are sold everywhere and come in thousands of textures and designs. What a perfect solution if watching the weight on a bus, van or rv build 😊

    Several years ago I worked for the forest service and part of my job was to travel to a counterpart's area and help her repair bear damage. We were stalked by a black bear once and she was afraid of being attacked. There was a warm winter, a blight on the trees that normally provided food for the bears and they had attacked several people. They were also protected and we were not allowed to carry bear spray or anything that might harm the bears. I got her a couple of air horns after I was at a sporting event where someone kept hitting one and I realized how annoying they are. She said she would pull up to the area she was getting samples from, get her pack ready, hit the air horn, walk the trail, maybe hit it again and never saw another bear while in the field. You can get a pack of two cheap. Not sure how well they would work with grizzly bears, but black bears sure run away. (so does anything else though.)

    After looking at the price of a Tundra+flatbed+custom or 4wheel camper build, then the prices of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canters, we’re realize the space for the dollar of a mini bus is unbeatable! Researching which are easiest to 4x4 convert and most reliable, etc. Thank you for this compilation! Seeing all the layouts sparks the imagination! :)

    One easy way to do bug screens (I did this on an SUV): Cut a thin 1/4”-1/2” wide strip of the hook side of a long Velcro strip and stick it around the window frame. Find a fabric store that carries tueling (the mesh fabric that little girl’s tutu’s are made out of). It gives/stretches a bit and comes in different hole sizes and colors (you can match the outside paint of the bus). Smaller holes = less bugs and probably sticks to the Velcro hooks better. Just press the tueling into the hooks on the Velcro and it stays very nicely. Trim to fit and make sure not to get tueling with glitter in it - it gets EVERYWHERE!!!

    great vid, also note on the bears, as I have lived in alaska, and have stood away from a wild black bear that walked into my camp, and my ex landlord being an advid hunter, black bears are a bit more dangerious than a grizzly, because a glizzy will false charge ( unless there is a cub near by) but a black bear will not., but otherwise they try to stay away from humans if they know their around

    Great vid, Tiff! Some wonderful work has been done making these personal and functional, and waaaay cool. I have a shorty conversion myself, The Big LeBUSki, and it's fully outfitted as well. I still plan on putting solar up top with a half deck. I'm an artist as well (@cmaggiostudio) so I will be painting a mural outside at some point. Safe travels to all!

  • @Rick_Sanchez_C137_
    @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Před 5 lety

    Great vids.
    Bears are fine, just give em their space.
    I spent part of the summer on one of my properties in Alaska. After I had been camping on it for about a week I found a den 150’ from where I was camping under a tarp. As I moved to look inside the den a bear huffed at me from within... so I backed away and left it alone. Didn’t move my campsite, no need, had he wanted to eat me he could have when I approached his den. I never saw him, but the pilot bringing in mail saw him on the beach less than half a mile south from my land, a couple days later a neighbor saw him less than a quarter mile north of my land, and he tore a deer out of another neighbor’s smoker (why would anyone use a wooden smoker in brown bear territory?)
    Also saw a couple of year old black bears tear apart a plum tree in Ketchikan this summer... got photos with my iPhone but there wasn’t much light and they aren’t that great... as the cubs left down the hill I heard their mother call for them from up the hill a little ways...
    Bears are awesome, just remember that their allowing you your peace one second doesn’t mean that if you bother them they won’t rip you to pieces in the next second....

      I'd say 'buy land' and - where permitted - park your bus on it, live in it and travel whenever you get the itch. That's probably what I should have done instead of building a place AND keeping a bus in storage which, as you would guess, costs storage fees.

    Nice review...would actually like to see you make this a regular series. After watching the Top 10, I wanted to see more.
    Reviews such as your's help bus rookies like myself avoid wasting so much time on conversion-watching of less-than-satisfactory builds.
    Additionally, I could appreciate Top10 lists of buses that are slightly larger. The small to medium builds are what intrigue me (probably as they are the types I may be able to eventually afford!). Your review style was refreshing.
