Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing! Are you excited for Unicorn Overlord from Atlus and Vanillaware? This is another video where I went with no script and figured, see what happens!
I didn't liked Ogre Battle that much at the time. But i've finished the Unicorn demo twice and loved it (i actually liked the game more the second time after getting a good grip at the mechanics). Get this game !
@@Santzlolyeah I've been gushing about Ogre Battle 64 for 20 years now and Unicorn Overlord is just better. I'd love permadeath mechanics that lead to the creation of Zombies and Angels, but aside from a few missing details, UO is a tight experience that really does justice to the idea of Ogre Battle better than Ogre Battle ever did.
The demo is really good. You can feel care and love from the first second you play it. I pre-ordered the Monarch Edition and cannot wait to unpack it next week.
I want to get it but I still have way too many strategy rpgs to finish. I still haven’t finished fire emblem three houses and triangle strategy. This is definitely going on the wishlist though
Currently playing the demo and pumped for the release date. On the fence about which platform to get it on, PS5 or Switch. I'm playing both demo's and to be honest the Switch demo hasn't disappointed so far.
I don't know if you know the gambit system from Final Fantasy 12, because it's in this game. Exemple, ording a character to attack only the enemy with the lowest HP, or using this skill when you character has less than 40% HP, etc. The game can be really complex (in a good way) if you use all the mechanic. But yeah it can be quite overwhelming at first ahah.
Are they sending out review codes? I'm curious what people will say about the full version rather than the demo that we all have access to. It really does seem like a no-brainer day one purchase... although it seems like most Atlus RPGs (and Sega RPGs) end up on Game Pass, which makes me want to wait! (I know we're on a Switch channel, but I tend to like playing RPGs on a traditional console. The option is nice to have, but it seems like I just end up with the Switch docked playing RPGs anyway!)
I'm the opposite. I have a PS5 and switch. For these games handheld is the way I prefer to play. Once the demo showed the game will run fine in handheld mode, I jumped on preordering the switch version. To each their own on their play styles.
Vanillaware’s games are best played on handheld devices, particularly on an OLED display…this has been true since Murumasa the demon blade for the PSVITA. The OLED Displays really make the art, the colors and general hand drawn approach to the character designs POP! Playing 13 sentinels on the switch OLED made the experience SO MUCH more long lasting and the most memorable experience. And now playing Unicorn overlord on the switch OLED is fantastic.
I had to Pre-Order the PS5 Collector’s Edition of Unicorn Overlord after playing a sizable amount of the Demo! I’ve never played a Vanillaware Title, so I’m very excited to jump into the foray! 🦄
I didn't like the demo initially because of the auto-battler aspect so I uninstalled. Then I remembered that in some rare situations, I didn't mind auto-battlers, like in Warsong. So I reinstalled, gave it an actual chance, and proceeded to play for 5-6 hours straight. Then once I finished playing, I pre-ordered the Monarch Edition. The game is just so good.
As usual, art in vanillaware games is incredible. As an extra, it made me notice how much dynamism jiggles add, thanks to western sensitivities infecting everything those have been disappearing, making many character movements feel a tad too stiff and unnatural. Granted some that did exist where so extreme they did a diservice.
As much as I love tactics games like this one, the month of March is already taken for my first JRPG love FF7 Rebirth lol. And April will probably be reserved for Dragons Dogma 2. This one will come after those two 😅 Damn, this year is turning out to be pretty great for gaming! Also really hope they release it on PC as well for playing on my Steam Deck (I don't have a switch and kinda don't want to get it on Playstation)
I'm torn on this one. I enjoy Vanillaware games, but turn based tactics games are hit and miss for me. Not sure which this will be. I might have to try the demo and see if it hits or, well, misses. Either way, appreciate the review.
Similar to 13 sentinels, Unicorn overlord takes the RTS gameplay from that game, and fleshes it out more as it adds a sort of similar “gambit” system where you can can customize the skills for your builds.
It definitely feels like the spiritual sequel to the ogre battle games. I never understood why square enix never remaded or even brought the older ones over to old vc or even switch online. With that said the rouge class is stupidly broken.
Damn i wish they would give us a steam release, sad to say this publisher only releases games on console, now i have to borrow my little sisters switch just to be able to play the game 😂 she aint getting it back for at least a couple of months since the demo really got me hooked 😂
Making games for the Switch is like making a Car Engine for a Horse, sure, it can run, but it can't run anything compared to any other option available. The Box the Switch comes in runs Pokemon Scarlet better than the Switch does..
yeah, it's auto battle. Everything that happened in autobattle only can be managed pre-battle, or before deciding a battle. All heroes's or every classes skill are managed with queue mechanic, and formational position affect the entire battle.
As excited as I am about this game, thinking that it has any chance at all for GOTY is pretty much insanity. This is a very niche title by a smaller dev known for niche titles. While I think it will still do well & will have a devoted fan-base....that fan-base will be in the minority & the game will not garner nearly enough attention to be GOTY.
yup sadly some slop like dragons dogma 2 running at 20 fps will still win goty 💀 gamers have no taste nowadays, vanillaware and fromsoftware are the only 2 developers i have full trust in.
I don't believe in GOTY anymore since all the nominees for the last one where the most recent release titles and think about it not many people are going to remember mario wonder after 1 year
Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing! Are you excited for Unicorn Overlord from Atlus and Vanillaware? This is another video where I went with no script and figured, see what happens!
I couldn't tell no script.
This will be one of those games that’s talked about for decades. It’s incredible.
probably not in this decade coz it's not on pc
If you played ogre battle, go get this. If you never played. Go get this. This is ogre battles final form
I didn't liked Ogre Battle that much at the time. But i've finished the Unicorn demo twice and loved it (i actually liked the game more the second time after getting a good grip at the mechanics). Get this game !

I’m not too familiar with the Vanillaware games, but they all have such amazing art! Really enjoyed the demo for this one.
Ultimately, the cheap skate in me is going to wait until it is 30 dollars. But it will be hard. Great demo
2:24 yes hearing Beaumont's VA's dialogues and lines made me smile from ear to ear no pun intended
The demo is really good. You can feel care and love from the first second you play it.
I pre-ordered the Monarch Edition and cannot wait to unpack it next week.
I swear, if they put Vanillaware visuals on an edutainment game, I'll learn about anything.
I want to get it but I still have way too many strategy rpgs to finish. I still haven’t finished fire emblem three houses and triangle strategy. This is definitely going on the wishlist though
Symphony of war has really been hitting that ogre battle itch for me but this will be great on the switch for on the go
I didn't want the demo to end. Was a great 7 hours
With 7 hours there's a lot thing to do what a surprised
Same here, I spent 8 hours in the demo and I waited to play more.
@@theunknown6412 The demo is based on your save file, so you can replay it with a different save file and then skip all the cutscene to see more. ;)
Ogre Battle is Back.
Pre-ordered it because I absolutely loved 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim! Thanks again for a great video, looking forward to it now even more!!
I am into this genre of games, and now I'm really interested in the new mechanics they are adding. Can't wait to try the demo.
I loved ogre battle 64 and I am beyond excited for this game as it's almost a spiritual successor. I cannot wait
Currently playing the demo and pumped for the release date. On the fence about which platform to get it on, PS5 or Switch. I'm playing both demo's and to be honest the Switch demo hasn't disappointed so far.
waiting for the limited edition... I was just not sure whether to switch to the ps5 version from the switch version... I have to try the demos
Limited Edition for switch and the standard version for ps5. That’s how I’m gonna get it. It runs great on both systems.
It looks like Unicorn Overlord will be an instant classic.
I want to stress that while the battles are automatic, the priorites depending on how they attack and who they will attack as well.
I don't know if you know the gambit system from Final Fantasy 12, because it's in this game. If i didn't have a massive rpg backlog, i'd definitely get this day one😅

@@maroXUprising I only have a junker launch switch with very little battery capacity :p
@@champdancer19 yeah I noticed playing on Xbox that I’m not sure beefier hardware adds much benefit
@@JesseDylanMusic thank you
this game has bombastic character worth of goty

@@Xoulrath_ the battle system caught me by surprise, but it reminds me of Chess which I love!
W vid man. Keep it up

Im quite excited for this game.

It's more RTS than turn based

Just from the demo I am pretty sure it's my game of the year unless there is a huge surprise game.
It definitely feels like the spiritual sequel to the ogre battle games. I never understood why square enix never remaded or even brought the older ones over to old vc or even switch online. With that said the rouge class is stupidly broken.

Has a strategy game ever made goty?
I don't believe so, but would be nice right
I love you Vanillaware
If infinite wealth does not even entering the goty this year idk of this could be. Plus ff7reb and dd2 also stellarblade and rise ronin
@@winghong3 its a true sense of jrpg if anything. Dq 11 was on it i think
Still not even finished 13 sentinels yet
Looks a bit like Langrisser, similiar to Shining force but not quite
I think you have a huge spoiler in some of the footage here?
I already have the collector's edition pre-ordered for switch. This game is going to be epic.

I was super hyped but the combat was too hands off for me:
Talking about bad timing release date, yeet'd between behemoth title ff7rebirth and Dragon Dogma 2, no way it will GOTY😅
It's a niche genre to begin with. Anyone believing that this will get GotY over a more traditional game is smoking some good stuff lol.
The demo is enjoyable.
As excited as I am about this game, thinking that it has any chance at all for GOTY is pretty much insanity. This is a very niche title by a smaller dev known for niche titles. Is it a a contender, yes.
Will it win, no.
why.
Because its not available on PC
A game like this will never win Goty or be lucky to be even nominated, but it will be the GOTY in many's hearts
yup sadly some slop like dragons dogma 2 running at 20 fps will still win goty 💀 gamers have no taste nowadays, vanillaware and fromsoftware are the only 2 developers i have full trust in.
Vanillaware proves again artstyle is more important then graphic power
Game is great
Pls stop hyping me up so much, im only going to get disapointed from all the expectation. Let it be a good game on its own.
Thanks - going to keep my eye on this… but since when is someone’s opinion “The truth”? Oh yeah, it’s the 2020s…. >despair
You should have known Bruno would be a problem. There's a reason we don't talk about him.
I don't believe in GOTY anymore since all the nominees for the last one where the most recent release titles and think about it not many people are going to remember mario wonder after 1 year
Vanillaware game its an automatic win
I love this game but it definitely not goty its not normie friendly and its not a remake sadly
No.
