  • You guys commented on my last video about this, and I hear you! The way I plugged the grommets over the wire is NOT the best way to do it. So in this video, I show a more correct way of running the wire and go into further detail about the harnesses, connectors, and how everything should be connected and look.
    Thank you all so much for your feedback and let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns!

    I was cringing when I saw how your origional video of your pinching the wire. A much needed update....well done! Also drilling the hole is far better then making a slit in the grommet. It retains the water proof seal and the drilled hole isnt prone to tear over time. Again....well done!

    Very good job, it looks like a factory installation, maybe you can reinforce the new cable with cable cloth insulation, like the one on the original cables, greetings from Madrid.

    Very helpful on installation steps. How has the light and/or adhesive hold up so far? I’m looking to do this on my MX-5 too.

      Thank you! I’m glad to hear the video was helpful. So far it’s been months and months of this on mine and my girlfriend’s ND and we have not had any issues so far.

    Anyone know the part # or know what to google to find replacements for these grommets?

    Have you considered using the same grommets as the XM antenna?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před rokem

      I did at first but those grommets also connect to the wiring sheath so to me it made more sense to poke a hole in the other ones than risk messing up the wiring at the XM antenna. But I’m sure you use it just as well

    Hi, I have been watching your video and I been trying to find this part, I have a 2023 mx5 grand tour fb, I have installed some 2022 lights that fit in the 23, I am seeing that 2019 to 2023 same body, but if you could send the name or link I would greatly appreciate it. Also the orange color is amazing.
    Thank you,

    I did the box-cutter slice method and found I'm getting water leakage into my trunk after a simple wash. fucking great.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh no! Take some tape or silicone sealant and that should fix it. Using a drill bit just smaller than the wire seemed to allow it to self-seal. Haven’t noticed leaks on mine yet. Thanks for sharing!

      @Fyre0 Před 2 lety

      @@DriveMX5 Yeah, i'm considering just getting a replacement plug for the one on the actual body of the car (the bottom-most plug), drilling/poking the hole and un-clipping the red/black wires from the connector to run them through the new one. Idk how I feel about using silicone sealant if I ever want to adjust the wires for whatever reason. Although the silicone would be way more convenient now than fiddling around un-coupling the wires from the connector.

    Originally what was the purpose of those holes and rubbers?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety +2

      They are used to run wires through the trunklid and into the car for the XM antenna. I guess depending on if it’s left hand or right hand drive will determine which holes are used. But they’re convenient for us folks who like to add things on later!

    The best thing is to never install the LED strip in the first place. The car already has really good tail lamps. Waste of money and time.
