The intuitive start is at 0:29, but in the sheet music there is a repeat. Tommy starts at 0:39 (pick up at 0:38). My friend and I are auditioning with this and spent an hour with the libretto figuring it out. The first 38 seconds is dialogue.

yes, right after the beat 39 seconds in. This is late so it probably won't be of any use to you but I thought I might try haha
The piano part differs in the sheet music, so you can tell where it starts after listening to it at least once. I've sung and played this song a hundred times and even I'm having trouble with the beginning. Maybe post the lyrics in the video, if you can?
