  • I know i don't do reviews on here but i might start doing some for levels i find interesting and such since i don't create nearly as much as i used to (might as well use this channel for something)
Anyway, this has been a level that has interested me for a while as it's not a conventional level by any means. An all wave 2.0 level with a very diverse number of effects is not something you see every day. Now i could talk about the deco and what not, but i've done that numerous times before so i want to focus on other aspects of the level. For instance, this level has many imperfections throughout its decoration, such as the backgrounds suddenly stopping rather than fading out, no transitions between each part, and missing decoration here and there. However, i believe it's the imperfections in this that define the level, something that i feel has been lost in many modern-day levels. Today we strive for perfection and try to fix absolutely every little problem that comes up in our levels, to the point where every orb skip has to be fixed leading to 900 groups just being used on toggle orbs to "fix" the gameplay. I think people should worry less about such things and keep them in, it's a part of the level and its identity so why change it just to make it so the player can't skip one orb or fix a missing corner piece. It's okay to let loose every now and then and just build whatever is on your mind, and that's why i adore this level for what it is. It's not perfect or amazing in any way, but it is teeming with creativity and ideas, even the imperfections leave me thinking "why did they leave this in? did they notice and choose to keep it in?" You would think a level like this wouldn't evoke such questions, but it does! I can never get into the mind of another creator so i am left to wonder about the choices they have made in this level. The fast-changing parts, each with their own style and direction makes me wonder if they had so many ideas that they just put EVERYTHING down as they were going, hopefully with a great sense of joy from creating.
In terms of the gameplay, yes, it is quite frustrating, but it feels genuine. It feels like it was made by a human rather than the (again) type of person striving to create the "perfect" gameplay. I still enjoyed playing this level despite the frustrations, and it made completing the level feel so much better as a result. I actually "feel" like I've accomplished something compared to the average modern-day level where everything is "fixed" and "perfect", it doesn't even feel like i beat anything, i just repeated a certain click pattern until i beat the level. I don't want to discourage people from having to build a certain way and what not, but i want creators to just let loose a bit more here and there and say, "fuck it" and just build what they want without any such standards holding them back.
Thats all i have to say really, i know it wasn't the most in depth "review" on the level itself but again, I've done enough of that, and I'd rather just spread my thoughts on what i think about the level and what we can learn from it.

“I want creators to just say ‘fuck it’ and not let any standards hold them back” word.

I agree with your review on levels nowadays. I actually like levels when they DONT seem polished and perfect (which is why I like early 2.0 levels so much)

I wish people would make more single gamemode levels. Preferably ones I can beat lol

Also, I think that the standards for featured/epic can stay the same, but the standards for rating a level shouod be that genuine effort was put in, and the gameplay isnt complete garbage. If you want to avoid such things then just play featured levels. Ive seen time and time again, levels that mods say just barely didnt make it, and that is such bs. Just rate them, noone is hurt by this, and that is a huge motivator to keep creating and work your way towards a feature. Also let Elder mods or SOMEONE at the very least rate levels. Robtop can stay the person featuring and epic rating but just let someone like Viprin rate levels.

the beauty of gd is that you can build whatever the hell you want so it shouldnt be a problem that people want to fix their transitions or bugfix their level so you have to play it how they want you to play it. they want to create what they envision however they want to. sometimes they also want to just make random stuff like this without caring about the result which is completely fine too. it just depends on the vision
