Enjoyed that thanks. I'm in Ireland and collect mainly Irish coins plus UK pre-decimal coins as they were of similar size weight and value and the UK coins could circulate here also. I have the 1952 George V but none of the rest. The UK dropped the Sterling standard .925 in 1920 and went 0.50 until 1947. Here we kept 0.75 sliver from 1928- 1943 and when minting started again adopted cupro- nickel as in the 1952 coin you show. The Old UK system was universal across Europe having been decreed by Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire that 240 denarius (240 being the 1st number divisible by 20 other numbers) should weigh a pound. Thus £ibre (pound) s (shilling) and d. (Latin for silver) and the UK was the last to drop this system. the weights and measures system back then was based on the weight of grains of wheat and so many gains made a dwt (penny weight) and 20 penny weights made an ounce but 12 troy ounces to a pound and 16 imperial ounces to a pound. Very complicated i'd love to see a video on this from someone?

12:37 None of these 'silver' picks contain silver at all, if they were fashioned from actual coinage. After 1946, sixpences were made from cupronickel alloy.
