1:36 You're not going to find that pick ever again
Brooo, I've been looking for a long time and asking questions of people and no one can effectively explain how to do tapping but this finally helped me get a good grasp on it.
You are the best man. I don't think anyone else teaches through CZcams videos so interestingly. I am learning guitar finger picking and this video really really helped me .
I've been playing acoustic guitar for a while and wanted to get into electric, and this lesson really helped me make a start, thank you so much!
This video alone taught me exactly what i needed to set me in the right direction to learn tapping. and ive tried many other videos before this! Thank you for simplifying the process :)
gotta say. I'm completely new to tapping, love playing rock songs but have to leave out a lot because idk how to tap or even hammer/pull correctly. This lesson helped tremendously. I got it at a decent speed almost immediately and am going to continue practicing motions like the ones you talk about, hopefully I'm playing like Van Halen one day lol. Another thing, in videos like this it is very important to people you use a good speaker that isnt over the top but is still fun to listen to and learn from, and Alex spoke perfectly. wasn't bored and the whole video felt very clear. Thank you so much for this
How’s it been going?
AMAZING LESSON. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
JUST THE LESSON I WAS LOOKING FOR!
I just discovered you and your lessons. Thank you SO much. Your explanations are so clear and you don't move too fast. VERY NICE, thank you again.
Thank you Jefferey!
Appreciated!
Good lesson! If you want to skip the talking and get right to the tapping, a good place to jump to is probably 2:25.
Thank you so much!!! It’s my first time learning tapping and I am following perfectly!!!
Just watched this and tried it for the first time, great step forward
Thanks a lot for this lesson. Now I’ve got a slight grip in tapping all because of this lesson.
Great video. You made it very easy to understand and do....thank you sir.
Thanks so much for this lesson, learning by myself is hard. This is the best tapping guide I've seen so far. Many thanks!
Yes this is great. A lot of minute details are well explained without rushing into teaching the riff
Wonderful lesson
Thank you so much for sharing this informative video with us 👍🏼
Subscribed 😀👍🏼
Thanks for the great video❤
0:30 that sounds so chill and dope. Are there like full version of this? I’d love to listen!
Whoah This video is underrated!! Thanks a lot for this vid!!
was really useful, thank you
Good video, helped me get the technique, thanks!
You’re a good instructor. Nice clear tone too
Thank you Charles!
bro thank you for this. it helped me a lot!!!
i like this guy. good vid man!
Excellent lesson. Thx so much Alex!
Thank you!
Hope you are ready for a few more, the next few days.
Very cool, Thank u, u teached me tapping🙃
commenting for support...I keep the pick in my hand (thumb-index) and tap with the middle finger and tap up...just a variation that seemed natural. keep rockin!
thanks for the nice content!
Great tips.Thanks
Thankyou man bless good videos
Thnaks, this really helped me out
Thank you for your lesson
Brilliant!
Sooo many times, I’ve played lick like that, and can’t imagine, how it can be played little bit different and sound musical, 🙏
Glad you learned something!
ohhh. super easy. thank you
Your teaching has helped me lot . I have been trying for the last six months to master the tapping that Van Hallen did in the song beat it by Michael Jackson.
thanks a lot good teaching
What effects are you using to get the volume and consistency when tapping, and what settings on those effects?
Hi Carl
Thank you for the excellent question.
Firstly, I cover this in the next part of this lesson series - and the course itself.
However, most of the consistency comes from using a compressor. (I use the Xotic SP, but basically any will do).
You need to set it fairly aggressive, but not so aggressive that you get a "click" sound when playing the strings.
I hope this helps!
Practice
Cool
Awesome, thanks!
Thank you!
very good explain
To some awesome guitarists who is struggling: Tapping isnt actually that hard. You just have to learn and get used to playing hammer-ons and pull-offs. :)
Helpful tutorial, thanks. I find it more natural to move my index finger up rather than down (for the tapping pulloff)?
Cool !!!
Thank you so much sir, Good wishes from India
Most welcome!
I am doing the exercise quite well, my problem is that I'm having trouble tapping higher on the fretboard, specifically the last few frets, any advice?
The performances in the "Solo as Licks" sections. that come with The Tapping Project, are amazing. !! I seem to have always shied away from Tapping technique, because of my short fingers.. dann.. but the idea of using adjacent strings, or skipping strings to do the tap note, far easier to stretch and reach.. nice !! .. wow.. light went on brightly ! ... now I think I like the idea of Tapping, because I can do it a more ergonomic way.. I like that you included the score for the backing tracks written and with GPro.. Brilliant.. thank you.. btw.. I bought your course.. I love your style.. very nice.. and not at warp speeds.. bravo..
Thank you so much for your kind words!
You really hit the nail on what I was trying to do with those smaller courses.
Tapping isn't all about being flashy. As you also mention, it can sometimes be the ergonomic choice. And why shy away from new sounds and ways to play cool melodies?
I hope to see you write some awesome solos soon! ;)
And hurray for short fingers/small hands. I feel your pain haha!
And don't forget lots of compression!
The initial problem I find with finger tapping is how to get the strings that sensitive that it doesn’t take much to tap the strings. No body explains what is the best settings for the amp. Some people have the strings so sensitive that you player it like key board where the strings still hum when you hold down the finger.
💛
Could you also do a tutorial on how to find ur pic back?
thank you so much.... why does that work at the 12th fret ??? if i went to B minor would i just move the tap up to the 14th fret ???
Hi, maybe a stupid question but are u sure the tap is on the 12th frat on the b string? In the standard pentatonic it's the 10th and then the 13th fret as I know.
Thanks in advance
Came to this after learning the eruption tapping part without even knowing the correct way to still sounded good to
As I'm watching this to learn and trying to play currents remember me and the rope
0:57 that guitar should have drop man... you're a wizard harry
It is on a stand
I know, it just surprised me
What is the song at the start?
This video is the eee funnieste eee thing ive ever eee seen.
Yo what's the song at the start, I need to know
Thank you for this one. Greets MarzJam
No worries!
Hope you got something out of it!
@@guitarmastery i was waiting for this one. thanks a lot.
Is this standard tuning?
my left hand pinky is smaller than my right and it’s hard to play fast so i used ring finger A LOT
my guitar makes absolutely no sound when i do this
same
I don’t know if im the problem or im missing something
U both are wrong it's takes time to get that in the beginning it happen s with everyone
@@larissahonda3053 u need have more gain
Me too
@@larissahonda3053 1. it works better on e guitars
2. You have to hit it hard enough so that the string hits the fret with some force, the clear sound is from using the fret as a node not your finger since your finger is soft and absorbs waves pretty well. Just do it by tapping hard
Ive been practicing this. But i can't get good volume when i'm tapping.. its too low sound. why it happens ? also i'm using a practice amp.. is it a problem of my amp ?
Hi Kasun
I use a compressor pedal when I play tapping stuff.
In this video im using a Xotic Effects pedal.
Try it out!
@@guitarmastery what is the use lf compressor?
Do you need certain sound equipment to make those awesome finger tapping sounds or can i just use my guitar and regular amp. Just started playing
I started practicing today and i don't have any other equipment other than my amp, which is a boss katana 50, and it sounds just fine. Just gotta make sure you press hard enough and that you get your pull offs right!
So i've been doing this for an our and the tap is comming out really low volume, don't know how to do this
I am learning wherever I may roam solo but I just cannot get the tapping… the tapping sound is so quiet even though I have max gain
Cool, but I always hold my pick (between thumb and middle finger) while practicing tapping since in over 90% of cases I'm going to need it after tapping part.
Agreed. That is also included in the full course.
However, for the sake of learning to tap (and the drama). I suggest starting without the pick.
Index finger is more flexible so it's easier and more precise for pulling string in moment of "tapping off" and it's easier and also more precise to do slide with it after tapping (like on solo from White Lion - Wait.... song is garbage, but solo is great). I know I butchered this explanation but if you try drawing circles in air with index finger and than with middle finger you'll notice how easier is to do it with your index finger.
And also if you need two fingers for tapping, you have more range with index and ring fingers than with middle and ring fingers working together.
And yes, I know, Van Halen (and many others) uses middle finger so it's obvious that you can make it work but I don't have long fingers like Hendrix or Prince so I try to be as efficient and economic as possible :)
When first learning the technique, I find it easier to just get rid of the pick entirely, so you can focus on just the mechanics of tapping.
It will then be easier to add the pick later on. I show ways to do this in the full course.
Also, you would notice I play with the "wrong" finger, so I actually tap with my index finger, and therefore do not have to switch pick position at all. May be a little confusing for most people.
What is the thing that is wrapped around strings at nut?
Sorry for the very late reply.
It's called a fretwrap!
Idk what's harder making the tap sound louder or not losing my pick on the process
im still confused on the tapping on how to exactly do it
is it possible to do this on acoustic guitar??
Hi Naman
Yes. It is, but you will need a lot more force then on an electric.
Depending how your guitar is setup. I recommend low action.
But it is possible!
@@guitarmastery ok.. thank uh☺️
i think the proper technique is to tap with the middle finger so that you dont have to drop your pick in a song
I prefer that too...
I have done a lot off pulling off today...
It barely works for me and when it does it’s mainly just the G, B, & E strings
He will never find that pick again
I am very sure that the guy in the video is 100% danish. Hvis du er, må du meget gerne like eller noget 🙃🇩🇰
he will not gonna see that pick again.
how many eehh
And then spend 2 years doing that hoping to be the next Eddie Van Hallen 🎃
The problem is that no sound comes out from my guitar………
Same here! What kind of tone do we need to get a sound? I think heavy compression but what else?
Ever heard of animals as leaders ? That's why I'm here . Lol
Hi Curt.
Indeed! I listened a lot to Joy Of Motion.
When you go a bit more advanced with these techniques, you can really create some interesting things!
Du er dansker 4 sure m8 dude
Woher kommst du
Me on an acoustic guitar 😢
Well I know you ain't gonna find that pick ever!
That’s not tapping. Those were right hand hammer-ons.
my guitar doesnt do that xd
this guy is def danish
I cannot hide it, even if I tried.
@@guitarmastery it's okay, I'm danish too.
du hörst dich sehr deutsch an lol
Is this dude Danish?! The accent...
Yes!
I stopped watching at 1:36 because you threw the pick down. Most tapping happens between two passages with picking. This means we need to learn to tap with the pick in our hand. therefore, I fear the lesson does not apply to me, since you are just going to use your pointer finger.
All I heard was ehhh
So it looks like this only applies to heavy metal
Hi Kureme
I do not agree.
It applies to so much more then just rock/metal music. If you listen to what I play in the beginning - you can use that type of sound in many ways across genres.
There are three more lessons in this series, where I branch out the technique.
You can find them all here: www.guitarmastery.net/the-tapping-project
Have a great week.
@@guitarmastery Can you play an otherwise picked melody by tapping, say, twinkle twinkle little star? Nothing too fancy.
@@ElGatoVato768 Yes.
You can basically play anything. Chords and everything at the same time.
@@guitarmastery please make a vídeo on the matter. Regards
I mean, tapping originated in heavy metal
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
Are we a bit off topic here? 🤣
@@AndyMangele He's praying because he can't tap! 😜
@@afonsodeportugal 🤣
How am I supposed to learn if u haven't learnt English yet, can't understand almost anything
I understood everything.
@@jespervagberg9132 ok habibi
You haven't learnt English yet?
I'm sure there are tapping tutorials in whatever language you speak if you're struggling :)
I will try to have English as my first language in my next life.
@@guitarmastery You speak very well, no worries man.
