    Great video. Thanks, needed to know about using this with a trailer and hard to find any other info about it.

    Thanks for sharing I’m looking for something for my Dodge pro master that can carry the spare and still tow a trailer with dual sport motorcycles.

    Interesting! I’m learning things. I just recently got a motorcycle trailer and while it’s not in the league of what your doing, I am still lost when it comes to trailer and hitch terminology.

      You're a good sport with this change. For anything below 2000 lbs gross, you won't need anything additional to your regular hitch set up. Safe towing is more about weight placement along the trailer's platform - never load more aft of the axle than the rest of the trailer. Keep motorcycles at or ahead of the axle or distribute weight 60/40, front/back.

    Thanks for the info! I just bought a Wilco tire carrier and was wondering what you call that latch you got off of Amazon?
    Thanks!

    Hi how did you make the hole for the screw? It does not look like a regular dril bit. Just bought the latch from Amazon now trying to figure out how to screw it properly.

    • @UTADV
      @UTADV Před 2 lety +1

      What you're seeing is a tap from a tap and die set. The steel thickness of the arm is enough to create a threaded hole for the stainless button head socket cap screws that bolt the latch onto the arm. The screws match the thread size of the tap. You can find tap and die sets at Harbor or any big box hardware store.

    How does the spare tire swing-out affect your backup/parking sensors?

      It eliminates them, had to turn off the system.

      @@UTADV I intend to install a second fuel tank, but I want to still be able to use parking sensors. Mine is mostly a garage queen, but I tow about a 1/2 dozen times per year, and take 1,000 to 1,500 mile round trips in it. Anyway, it is far more exciting backing it up than it needs to be. So I was looking at adding parking sensors and cameras. Thanks again!

    I just bought the high clearance model to replace a home built tilt down model similar to what is now available on Amazon for ~$120. After spending a thousand, I'm disappointed to hear you had problems with the pivots wearing out and that you had to do modifications. In the video I see the slop in the pivot when you opened/closed the gate. It looked like it had to be lifted slightly to close. I was expecting better engineering. my homebuilt drop down carrier, has no wobble or looseness after three years of use. Why can't Wilco do that for $1000?
    How much do new pivots for the hitchgate cost?

    • @UTADV
      @UTADV Před rokem

      It does have to be lifted, and I'm far from the maximum weight. The delrin pivot bushings are only $5 and are the only serviceable component on the swing arm. I was pretty naive when I started my shopping for this, going with the least expensive, not realizing the pivot was this simple and vulnerable.
