If your in Korea as an English teacher. Then you have to communicate with your co-wokers right? That's how it starts. Also, at work Korean bosses create activities or have dinners (called hwaeshik) and your co-workers get a chance to know you through that...then they introduce you to their friends. If you come to Korea to study in a university then you will make Korean friends there the same way. Ect..ect. Through common groups and then you meet people outside of those circles through the people in those circles. And unlike us they date through this method too. No talking to strangers. Although some might it's really not the norm in Korea.
me too! especially the "complimenting people" thing. When I meet people I tend to be pretty friendly and say things like "oh I like your hair/shoes/makeup/etc!" but... I know that when I go to Korea I won't really be able to say that anymore LOL. Culture shock will hit me like a bus

Omg I have this funny story to share with you guys😂 Anyway it really bothers me when strangers talk to me and it happens sooo damn often. So one day I was waiting for the bus heading to school and this weird guy started talking to me about his whole life (😂) I haven't said one word and he kept going and going. And while he kept going about how his wife kicked him out of the house I gave him this terrified look and I started breathing faster and he realized my actions and was like r u ok? And I said "you can see me?? How is this possible, I thought I was-..." while looking so terrified 😂😂 this guy immediately started to get so uncomfortable and almost scared and slowly started walking away. His face was looking like "damn I just spent nearly 10 minutes talking to a ghost" 😂😂 I spent that whole day laughing. LOL I should be an actress or maybe that guy was just gullible. Anyway if you made it this far thanks for reading 😘

Maybe Its The Thug In Me Megan has gone through that struggle (not having clothes fit, she did a video about it). I believe I can find clothes that will fit me, I'm not really big, I just have a big bust. Plus, there are so many online stores that have international shipping etc that I can use if I really have that much of a hard time. ^^ I don't think I'll encounter that too often and if I do, I'll quickly learn the saying of "Don't touch me, please" or something along those lines. I live in India and I'm taking Korean classes. So what happened was, after my Korean class, me and my classmates went to a convenience store. We are used to answering in Korean in class. So when the shopkeeper asked my friend if she had any cash, she replied 안니요. Same thing happened with me. I stepped on someone's foot and automatically replied with 미안해요. Nobody speaks korean in India. People look at us like we are a bunch of weirdos speaking in Parseltongue.
Haha i feel you on that matter ... it doesn't happen to me wih strangers but it happens to me alot at home ... I spend alot of time watching korean stuff on youtube ( Kpop stuff , kdrama , korean variety shows , korean lessons ,... etc) and when i talk to my familly i just sometimes reply in korean and they just stare at me weirdly like " wtf are you saying " x)

I live in NYC and the only places that have crossing guards are schools. Crossing guards will be at the street in front of or the streets around the school. They guide the students to the school building and tell the vehicles when to stop or go, even though there are street lights. This is most likely done in order to prevent an accident from happening.

That pill taking! 😂 while visiting korea my sister got kinda sick and sore throat so we visited a farmacy with a note written from the help of our hotel and all we got is TWO packets of different pills and the man just said to take both twice a day, so like 4 pills a day for a sore throat 😂 and having no idea what it was, it was quite a experience

I moved from Italy to the US seven years ago and it took me forever to get used to hugging people instead of kissing them and it often led to very awkward moments. Then I became fully Americanized and would have more awkward moments whenever I visited Italy and went for a hug at the same time they went for kisses. Now I'm moving to Korea in January and I'm going to have to re-train my greeting habits again lmao. Looking forward to having yet more awkward moments in my repertoire. I feel like one day I'm going to get so confused I'm going to try to hug, kiss, bow, wave and shake hands all at the same time.
Some of the early things you mentioned I stopped doing to. I stopped hugging after my first month. As for talking to strangers, I still do that in Korea and Japan just to brush up on my language. If they stay, cool. If they don't, cool. :) I stopped following rules even BEFORE I came to Asia! The questions bit is IRONIC cause Koreans ask foreigners a CRAP TON OF QUESTIONS! The last minute bit will never NOT be annoying. Koreans are all "Oh yeah, we decided to do this right now because we can" like WTF people?! Thank GOD that didn't happen to me when my wisdom teeth were taken out in Korea. That sounds PAINFUL! When I got pneumonia, they gave me a 3 weeks worth of pills. Glad I got it at such an affordable price.

In my experiences, it is a lot less weird (seemingly in the Korean opinion) for a very foreign looking person to randomly compliment others. Koreans tend to just assume that is in his/her culture. There have been a few times that I made a comment on someone's hair, clothes, etc. and while some people looked surprised at first, I have always received big smiles, thank you's, and I have even made some friends in Korea this way. One night I told a Korean girl in the bathroom that her haircut was really pretty and her and I ended up hanging out and talking for a long time afterwards.
I totally agree with this! I compliment my Korean coworkers so often that now they do it to each other and its so lovely (much better than the usual "you lost weight!" comments they gave each other haha)
It's interesting on diverse the US is when you have a local leave the country then assimilate to a new country just to give and opinion of their home country. I just find that interesting how vloggers who venture out to all these interesting countries always end up making a video like this I love it. I live in India and I'm taking Korean classes. So what happened was, after my Korean class, me and my classmates went to a convenience store. We are used to answering in Korean in class. So when the shopkeeper asked my friend if she had any cash, she replied 안니요. Same thing happened with me. I stepped on someone's foot and automatically replied with 미안해요. Nobody speaks korean in India. People look at us like we are a bunch of weirdos speaking in Parseltongue.
Haha i feel you on that matter ... it doesn't happen to me wih strangers but it happens to me alot at home ... I spend alot of time watching korean stuff on youtube ( Kpop stuff , kdrama , korean variety shows , korean lessons ,... etc) and when i talk to my familly i just sometimes reply in korean and they just stare at me weirdly like " wtf are you saying " x)

I live in NYC and the only places that have crossing guards are schools. Crossing guards will be at the street in front of or the streets around the school. They guide the students to the school building and tell the vehicles when to stop or go, even though there are street lights. This is most likely done in order to prevent an accident from happening.

I live near a university in south korea and almost every morning, there will be a guard or two standing by the crosswalk to help people crossing the road. I guess maybe it's the morning-rush-hour.

Jaywalking tickets were a common occurrence where I lived in southern California, so I guess it depends on where you are.

I moved from Italy to the US seven years ago and it took me forever to get used to hugging people instead of kissing them and it often led to very awkward moments. Then I became fully Americanized and would have more awkward moments whenever I visited Italy and went for a hug at the same time they went for kisses. Now I'm moving to Korea in January and I'm going to have to re-train my greeting habits again lmao. Looking forward to having yet more awkward moments in my repertoire. I feel like one day I'm going to get so confused I'm going to try to hug, kiss, bow, wave and shake hands all at the same time.

Some of the early things you mentioned I stopped doing to. I stopped hugging after my first month. As for talking to strangers, I still do that in Korea and Japan just to brush up on my language. If they stay, cool. If they don't, cool. :)

In my experiences, it is a lot less weird (seemingly in the Korean opinion) for a very foreign looking person to randomly compliment others. Koreans tend to just assume that is in his/her culture. There have been a few times that I made a comment on someone's hair, clothes, etc. and while some people looked surprised at first, I have always received big smiles, thank you's, and I have even made some friends in Korea this way.
One night I told a Korean girl in the bathroom that her haircut was really pretty and her and I ended up hanging out and talking for a long time afterwards.
I totally agree with this! I compliment my Korean coworkers so often that now they do it to each other and its so lovely (much better than the usual "you lost weight!" comments they gave each other haha)
It's interesting on diverse the US is when you have a local leave the country then assimilate to a new country just to give and opinion of their home country. I just find that interesting how vloggers who venture out to all these interesting countries always end up making a video like this I love it. I'm from California and I would have to say whenever I leave people always say you're very blunt or straight forward.
