You are so right. Many eyeglass shops don't know what they're doing. In the last four months, two different shops ruined two pair of glasses. Most recently, I had an eye exam by an opthamologist. The optician who works for the opthamologist offered to clean my new glasses. I should've refused. She took it upon herself to "adjust" the bows (without asking my permission), breaking the hinge. I did not notice till I got home. The hinge now "clicks" when you close the bow and that side is loose when open. I am so mad. These frames were bought at another company which had gone out of business, and cost $139. I had only worn them a couple weeks, after another shop ruined my old glasses.

Sorry to hear your troubles. That cleaning was probably done without using any or sufficient amount of liquid, so dirt just got dragged across the lenses while being moved from one side to the other.
      Thanks for watching.

The drill bit keeps sliding, how do you manage to keep it in place? Thanks

That spectacle arm has to be made out of hard material, maybe tough is a better description. So with that in mind and doing such intricate work like you have done, did you have to make some kind of holder or clamp for the arm prior to drilling or was it possible to just hold it all by hand.

Was held by hand, HSS drill bit was used (high speed steel)

Do not do it like that!!!. The hole makes the arm very weak. Note, that spring inserts are changeable and te good optician will help you by changing the insert.

That sucks, ... they are made of a cheap brittle foundry sludge (leftover metal of unknown composition)
