What can you Igbo shows for their best in Nigeria. Is it that, Southeast is the best region to lived in or the poorest in Nigeria? Even in business, are the Igbos the king of establishing second hand shops in Nigeria or..? The Yorubas and the Hausas excelled in their own ways too..Has Igbos ever imagined how much the Hausas makes monetarily in agriculture in Nigeria? Bets, it surpassed all the rickety slums shops that the Igbos claimed they owned. Please, spared us, Southeast states are one of the poorest in Nigeria. Anambra state is their best state, yet, the state IGR is poor and not able to generate enough revenues to developed the state. Enough bragging, Igbos are poor generally only few people are blessed in Southeast and certainly the 5 Southeastern states have a poor economic power hence Igbos lived in SW and Northern parts of Nigeria.

Nice beat to a ethnocentric bigotry. Saying you are the best is a very common assumption of many Igbos which is very unfortunate especially in a Country like Nigeria with its ethnic problems. We complain when other races think or say they are better than Black people but we think its okay to do it to each other, saying my ethnic group is better or superior to yours. its election time in Nigeria and seeing this will only confirm the suspicion and mistrust that many non Igbos have of Ndigbo. Chest beating of superiority even as a joke will not win friends and certainly not win votes . Humility is what is needed if we want to see an Igbo president of Nigeria. We are the smartest, we own Lagos and Abuja, we developed the North and Nigeria statements will not help in the desire to have a Nigerian leader from the East, only to be told after that you are better than the rest of us Nigerians. Respect for other ethnicity and humility will win the race. A lot can be learnt from the Fulani leaders who have bee ruling the North for about a century but will never brag to the Hausas about being better than them at least not in the open. We dont need to be boastful or put others down to feel good about ourselves. Igbo kwenu

Songs are powerful. Songs often are used to express cultural philosophies.
This prevalent and toxic Igbo mindset has been on for so long and the targeting of the Yoruba as inferior to you directly expresses how terrible it is to consider some of you as allies and neighbours especially in the South West. The fallacies in your rhetoric are there in your narrative; which is quite unfortunate for you.
You are similar to the Fulani in some sense ( and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way that many of you would interpret this) ; but I know you will not agree with this.
That such song is sung in a ceremony to honour one of yours makes it sad. He should condemn such distasteful song. The Igbo tribe can be proud of themselves and rightly so without denigrating others in the process.
No Yoruba person/group will minimise any tribe when they are celebrating themselves. They focus on and enjoys themselves.
This is terrible for the Igbos and let no one say it is a joke.

    • @nkemjikaaaron1325
      @nkemjikaaaron1325 Před 2 lety +3

You ended by saying, "Let no man say this is a joke." Exactly what you didn't want to acknowledge. This is comedy delivered through a song. Haven't you watch any stand up comedy before? They just portray the good, bad, ugly of different ethnic nationalities. People laugh away and don't take those things to heart.
Besides, who knew what this performer would do prior to his time on stage? The views were his, not that of the whole Igbos. Others just listened while he performed
Yorubas are good in administration. No group or tribe has it all. So don't take this personal and attack a whole ethnic group for the comic display of one.

    • @adedayoadeyemo1160

@@nkemjikaaaron1325 You will observe that in the comments, there are views that posit that what he is saying is the truth’. So it is untrue to claim it is a joke. Do you think such a joke can be told in a gathering where Yorubas are present and would be welcomed? I have taken up some Igbo guys on same disgusting view on social media and their default view is to compared themselves to Yoruba just to prove that are better than them- Very primordial. His isn’t the first ethnic joke I would listen to. a comedian should be able to tap into his or her emotional intelligence to be able to say sensitive jokes in ways that wont offend and yet would be real and funny. His is distasteful and lopsided to say the least.
Any group can be good in administration, I don’t believe Yorubas are best at it, no group is born with it.

I think you need to understand the issue i am addressing in order to present a more coherent rebuttal. Group Stereotyping is not the same as tribalism.
In multiethnic settings, stereotyping is a common negative phenomenon. The Yoruba Ijebus are stereotyped as ritualists too, not only Igbos. the Hausas and Fulanis are stereotyped as uneducated, also as Jihadists. Does it mean all ijebus are ritualises or all HausaFulani are less educated relative to anyone else from other groups in Nigeria? OtHers include; igbos are drug pushers, Yorubas are yahoo yahoos. These are stereotypes ( which I believe shouldnt be labels) and differ from bigoted views that one group is superior to another. How? What metric do you use to measure we are the best? It’s like positing that the white people are the best race. How ? Intellect, Art, physiology, invention? It does not make sense. Tell me one group in Nigeria that is not stereotyped.
to posit that the Fulani or Hausas are inferior to another group because of the stereotyping is nonsensical. To argue that it is TRUE cannot be defended or justified.
Can he make jokes about Yorubas or any other group? Yes. Are there limits to his jokes . No, In my opinion. It is art. But it’s utter foolishness to say we are the better than another because of change in name is primordial thinking.
But I know where the sentiment is from; because this is not the first time I am having to push back against this Igbo I-better-than-all-others narrative.
Even, his example is flawed as it does show he has sampled the names among the notorious touts in Onitsha.
