    Great video bud, fantastic comparison. I had the original (2001) printing for many years and ended up giving it to my friend to build as he was a huge fan of the Refit (like myself). Sadly he never got around to building it and passed away in 2019.
    I am currently thinking to pick up the new printing and do a fully lit display with her. Found some great 3rd party detailing (internal Bridge details etc) so I'm thinking of going full museum piece with it.
    Fantastic video once again.

      Thank you very much for your kind words, I really appreciate them. I am glad you enjoy my videos. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I lost a close friend last year and ended up finishing his 1/350 U.S.S. Enterprise 50th Anniversary model from the Original Series. I hope you get your model and have a great build my friend!

    Do these Polar Lights models have the lights cut out already? I built one of the old AMT Enterprise-D models from the 90s and had to cut all the lights out and it was a daunting task.

    If they made a 1701-D, it would probably be somewhere in the 6 to 7 foot long range in 1/350th scale, and have a price tag at around 1,000 dollars. Just check out the 1/2500 scale kits as they make all of the Enterprises in the same scale and the D is a little more than twice as big as well as the rest of the Enterprises. Round 2 doesn't have the money to spend on molds for kits of that size. I am a machinist and even the cost to upgrade the molds for the re-issues is in the tens of thousands of dollars. As for the aztec decals they have been selling those as far back as 2007.

    • @TrekFanNCC-1701
      @TrekFanNCC-1701  Před 6 lety

      I am aware of the size a 1/350 scale USS Enterprise D would be. I personally would think it would be great to have! That is my oppinion, you are free to yours. As far as the aztec decals, I spoke of them being included in only one issue of the Kit. The other two kit issues do not include them.

    • @JimPaulJr
      @JimPaulJr Před 6 lety +1

      I wasn't trying to be a smart guy or put your idea down. Most modelers in the community don't understand why modeling companies put out models in smaller scale as opposed to doing certain models in much larger scales. Being a machinist in the tool and die field, I have reworked and made new molds for companies. A new mold is less than half the cost as it is to rework or remachine an old mold. Most mold machines can handle molds as in the size of the 350th refit or tos Enterprise models. A mold that would be needed for say a 350th scale Enterprise D, would most likely need a much larger molding machine made to specifically handle molds of that size. This would be a very expensive undertaking and cost the model company dearly.in turn that expense would be passed down to us modelers. This is the reason model kits have gotten so costly these days. I have been model building for some 48 years now, and I have seen the steep jump in prices over the last 10 years. I was just trying to bring to light why most model companies wouldn't take on a model of this size and it is the same reason why model companies make an announcement about doing some models and then they never go past the design stages because the find out the cost of a mold wetter it is new tooling or reworking a mold that they already have. I was just bringing to light the reality on this topic and not trying to put your thoughts or ideas down. Sure all of us would like to see large scale models of our favorite ships and sad to say most of them will always be just that, a wish or thought. They do have large scale Enterprise D fiberglass or resin kits available and the prices are very high.
      I hope no offense was taken by you and none was meant. Happy modeling. Looking forward to seeing your ships finished up.

    • @TrekFanNCC-1701
      @TrekFanNCC-1701  Před 6 lety

      No offense taken my friend. I completely understand. I think that is why we can still see the original casting of the USS Enterprise from AMT when it first came out. I totally agree, everything is very expensive. Even the decal and lighting kits can be very pricey as well. Of course I cannot afford as much as I would like. My collection was gradually built over the years. If I could I would have bid during the auctions when they auctioned off the props and large ship models used in the Star Trek Films. Of course my wife woudl have different ideas, ha ha. Take care and happy modeling to you as well!

    Not sure why the Polar Lights kits say the "USS Yorktown" was renamed "USS Enterprise A".
    - The Yorktown was shown in "The Voyage Home" as being crippled by the probe. So it was already captain'd, a crew, and a mission. Its
    - The "Enterprise A" was described as a brand new ship that was built new from the keel up. It was riddled with issues during its shakedown cruise and scotty was in charge of repairs at drydock. Why would it be riddled with issues if it was renamed from the Yorktown and had already logged hundreds of space hours?

    It's not really clear that it was the Yorktown. Some other sources saying it was the USS Ti-Ho, others saying it was the USS Atlantis and some saying it was a complete new build ship. Non of this is canonical confirmed

      Roddenberry reportedly suggested the second USS Enterprise-A, launched at the end of Star Trek IV, had previously been named USS Yorktown since it seemed unlikely that Starfleet could have built a new Enterprise so quickly. If this was the case, the Yorktown may have made it safely back to Earth and been repaired and renamed, or perhaps there was a newer, replacement Yorktown already under construction at the time of the probe crisis.

    • @TahoeTime4457

      The latter scenario could be supported by dialogue from Star Trek V where the Enterprise is described as a "new ship" by Scotty,

    In hindsight, I really wish that the ship had retained its original name. Would it really have been so bad for Kirk and his officers to take command of USS Yorktown, and create a new legendary starship name. IMHO the whole NCC-1701 A, B, C, D, etc. got to be silly. Even in TNG if you want to name the ship Enterprise at least give it a unique hull number.

    • @TrekFanNCC-1701
      @TrekFanNCC-1701  Před 5 lety +1

      That is an interesting view. I think that the USS Yorktown was due to be decommissioned but with the enterprise' destruction they rushed to rename the Yorktown the Enterprise A. The Enterprise was due to be decommissioned as well so I totally get where your coming from.

    • @jnichols3
      @jnichols3 Před 5 lety +1

      With the problems the "Yorktown" had in the beginning of ST V, there could be nice exchange between Scotty and Uhura near the begining of the movie when Scotty had brought her the packet (of peanuts?).
      Scotty, frustrated with all the ship's malfunctions: "This is definitely not the Enterprise".
      Uhura as she opens the packet: "It's not like she did'nt have her problems too, but we grew to love her".
      Scotty chuckles lightly, looking at the view screen seemingly beyond the stars themselves: "Aye".

      Now I remember, thanks. Anyway, Yorktown could have been a separate unique character like Enterprise had been. That first movie (V) she was troublesome child. The second (VI) she proves she is every bit the ship her sister was. Dont mess with a "Connie". BTW, in one of the novels, Enterprise-A was lost about 6 months before the launch of Enterprise-B. I do not remember the name of the novel. I had just thumbed through it at a book store. Do you know what book that was?
