- Those with lived experience of hepatitis can face significant challenges and obstacles when it comes to getting their voice heard and influencing national planning. This session features patient representatives Jazzy De Lisser and Dee Lee sharing their stories and experiences and reminding us why we are all here.
I probably contracted hep c in 87 but was not dignosed until 96. About 4 years ago my liver stopped processing fluid and I ballooned to almost 300 punds (I'm 6'3"). It got so bad I threw up a lot of blood and almost died. I was put on Harvoni which cuted it. By then the damage had been done and in August of 2020 I underwent emergency transplant surgery at Mass General Hospital. Today I am hep c free and living a good life.

I have had Hep c 1b since 1964 and have had no symptoms yet. I'm 77 my liver is still in good shape and I plan to live with it till I die!

What were your symptoms prior to getting diagnosed? I have a slight yellowing of the eyes and i'm freaking out thinking i might have hepatitis.

My first round of treatment was interferon at age 22. It was horrific. I could not imagine yhe pain ig a 6 year old child going through that treatment and the mother who had to make that choice and care for her daughter while being infected herself.
My second round of treatment was Harvoni at 29 when my insurance would finally cover it. It was successful and while not fun, it was 1000x better than Interferon. At a liver level test 2 years ago, I was found to be infected again. I don't know how. I have been sober and clean from drugs for years. I don't know if it was from something medical, a tattoo, acupuncture, unknowingly having someone use my razor or tweezers. My husband doesn't have it. I'm 35 now and this is the only time I've been able to physically tell that I am infected and showing symptoms. Having this again while having a 2 year old daughter, a full time job in the drug and alcohol treatment field, being much older and during COVID pandemic hasn't been easy. If you even think you might have been exposed at any point, go test. And don't delay treatment. It sucks and it's not an easy 2 or 3 months. But it is SO much better than having later stage symptoms. And living with fear and guilt. I thought I'd be judged. It reminded me of a life I'd left far behind me. So i kept putting it off. I convinced myself that it was the previous infections that left something behind that tricked the test and that's why the test came back positive. I rationally knew that wasn't the case but I convinced myself that its was. I don't regret a lot in my life. But this was and still is my biggest regret.
i really hope you respond to me..i was told that a person will test positive even after cure...is this right? this coming from a proffessional. Dr says it will always alter test because of treatment. Im baffled

Who REALLY knows for a fact how much life changes if one is infected or not? I had HCV from 1980 on (at least) ...I always "felt" that I KNEW something was wrong with me ...I just KNEW it comparing my life with the energies and abilities of others... then again? I mean HOW could I "know"? see the problem is there is no frame of reference ....I mean if the liver fails? well THEN it is duhh ....but up until some tipping point? It is guess work ...I did the treatments described in this video ...they sucked ...but MOST of the rollercoaster ride (I think) was the result of what people SAID ....I mean the information on the disease is so controversial ...there never was real consensus what it REALLY meant to have the virus ...some people appear unaffected and others devastated ... doctors are apt NOT to believe the patient . One thing is for sure hardly anyone infected with geno 1 was cured via interferon ...winning at that was like winning the lotto ... not worth the side effects but it is hard to not go for it when one understood how bad the hcv COULD be...and yes I TOO got the harvoni cure at a cost of 1100 dollars PER DAY for180 days! Thankfully insurance paid not me

Can somebody write me if it is hard to live with other person having that virus?
I mean i am healthy but my girlfriend has this dissease.
We spend big amount of tine together including walks, cinemas, drinking, sex and other stuff. We date almost 1,5 month now.
I know that i must avoid a contact with her blood.
I know about a diet which she will bring to her life in the nearest future and i will support her fully eating the same things with her.
I will also be supportive in „no drinking alcohol and non smoking” policy which she will bring up with a diet.
But if it is more that i can do ?
I am asking for help because i want her to be the happiest girl in the world when living with me.
