If your career is going nowhere and you cant even save substantial amount of money than you are wasting your time really. And they offered to pay him 3x less per hour than someone who was from the West, so he refused. Believe me, SA Asian market is HUGE and their English proficiency is very low, I am sure that you can find something. With $12k a year you can live a decent life there.

I looked it up and a school janitor is paid $2 above minimum wage in Ontario. Salaries might vary a little depending on where you work, but it's low end payment anywhere you go. MacDonald's is also minimum wage. Maybe not the worst job, but still minimum wage. Also, I don't believe you that your cousin bought two houses with the salary being a janitor, that's not easy even for a regular office worker, let alone someone without college. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm studying for my engineering degree right now, I'm so glad that my college is mostly paid by the state, I will be getting paid at least 60k straight after graduation, for one person thats more than enough to live on, so thats something I have to look forward to, I'd highly recommend that if you can go back to college and get an engineering degree in aerospace, mechanical, computer or electrical I think that would be very beneficial for you, as long as you study hard you can do it
Here college isn't at all paid by the state and you it costs like $50k to do a program like that. Unfortunately, I don't have the grades to qualify for a computer/mechanical engineer, or anything of that sort. I might be able to apply to a community college for electronics, or something like that, but that's equally as useless as what I already have.
