    You time lapse and music selection where really well done.
    I think its funny how virtually every video on youtube about truck conversions looks the same. I'm a backpacker and theres a pain in the butt phenomenon called summit fever. It speaks to the missed opportunities and poor decisions made because your mind is on the summit and not in the present. It applies to the descent as well. I think that applies to art projects and builds like this. We are so eager to get to the GD finishes...the fancy fan and the pretty tongue and groove wood and sinks and storage that we don't do the underneath work that can truly make a vehicle comfortable.
    I doubt I'll live long enough because people just get something in their heads and it takes generations to undo it. Reflectix is not an insulator. there's no easier way to put it. Its a conductor of heat and if you don't believe me try taking that emergency blanket....right out of the package all folded up 30 layers deep and use it as a pot holder when you make dinner tonight. THEN you will know the truth. The little air pockets also perfectly convect heat away. Air molecules are just a tiny bit smaller (lol) than those giant air bubbles....more than enough room for convection. Fold must be suspended to get the relatively minor thermal reflection. Its how they insulate sleeping pads. put an emergency blanket under your sleeping pad and feel the heat conduct right into the ground. Styrofoam everywhere should be the star of these builds before anything else. I,m just finishing mine now. I have no storage, I have space and 2 super comfy custom reclining chair/beds. No power no fan and small battery powered lights. It was 102 degrees F yesterday and sitting inside with the windows open was like sitting under a shady tree....felt like 20 degrees cooler (who knows). It could be zero degrees and I'd be just as comfortable. It kills sound like a champ and all of my buildout...made in one way or another ALL with styrofoam can be removed and put back to a cpt'd shell truck in about 5 minutes while holding all the components in two arms. It took me over a year to work through all the other stuff that everyone else builds and just let that be fantasy...what I have is crazy similar to my ultralight backpacking style. Everything you need to be very comfortable and exactly nothing more. And convertible (I have a pickup set up). I hope this helps if anyone is considering a really cool build like this. It's a real pain but taking the time will make you so much more comfortable....In that I'm just finishing it I've only spent a cpl nights in it. With a window cracked about a 1/2 inch I had no condensation.....which was weird...I'm sure I'll get some but I also cover the windows at night with custom 1 1/2'' styrofoam as well so very little heat ever touches the windows to condense. Try it, messy but fun. All the stryo is sealed and covered with fabric so the mess ends one day
    GREAT VAN by the way. Thanks for sharing

    great build! l love it! My boyfriend and I also converted this same transit to travel part time in. Sometimes I wish we had something larger or that's 4x4 but we've found more times we blend in and get around in national parks much easier than a large rig would. thanks for sharing!!

    Wow, I am just slow mine took week's LOL. Great Job! I have a 2010 FTC XLT in Dark Blue "dobby" I went the lenghtway pullout couch and side kitchen because it is just me and hopefully soon a dog. The bed can pullout to 45"wide so i could squeeze someone in next to me, but with the corona virus, puts a damper on dating lol. I am working on a plan for an aluminum unistrut roof rack with some cedar boards up top to go around my maxxair fan. Kind of funky retro VW look. I Really thought if I could find the 8' roof basket they make for our van, but its like $400 some dollars. I can build mine for around $200. Enjoy the hell out of it!

      We have driven it from PA to CA and back. Then recently drove from PA back to CA. It drives like a 4 cylinder. You do you have to be aware of how you drive. We got a 3year/36k extended warranty and let's just say we got our moneys worth. With a little work it's driving great now. It's all about how you intend to use your vehicle.

      There are official measurements on the vehicle but we really didn't rely too much on them. We wanted the back to be all bed so with that idea we were able to figure things out as we went. • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey Ashley! We used Loctite to secure down the wood frame to the metal floor. We secured the frame at the front of the van (near the driver/passenger seats) to the floor into existing bolt holes along the black metal bar there. Then, we connected the entire frame to itself with metal corner brackets in each corner. I hope this helps! We did not drill any new holes into the floor of the van, and I understand your hesitation! Let me know if I can clarify further :)

    Great job with all your videos. I’ve been eyeing this type of clean for a conversion for a few years now. I’m curious now that you’ve had it for some time have you found any issues? Does the van have any motor issues? Have you found staying in it to be enjoyable or are there any changes you wish you made early on? Once again great videos thank you for all this info

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +1

      Kieran, my biggest issue is the engine power of this make. I would loved to have had a v6 in this size vehicle as in some hilly areas she doesn't have the power to race uphills. I think that would be my biggest regret not purchasing a more powerful vehicle. The motor works great so far. We invested in the Ford Manufacture's warranty so if anything goes wrong we don't foot too large of a bill. Other than that I really enjoy the size, flexibility and accessibility this vehicle offers. Thanks for the thoughtful question.

    Beautifully converted. May I ask how much was the project cost ( van n materials )? And how long did it take? Would you be interested to build one, of course your involvement will be added on too. I will source a same kind of van, look forward to your reply.

    @petitemagali Před 3 lety +1

    • @LauraConnected

      We sit on the bed or on the front seats or outside on chairs or on the ground or at a picnic table or a bench. We didn’t prioritize our camper van build around sitting, we prioritized storing essentials, camp-ability, and comfortable sleeping :)

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +4

      I believe you are referring to our vent fan. We used "dicor products White Lap Sealant (self leveling) You can recognize it by the bald headed man on the front! It states "the RV roofing experts" I would assume this would also work for sealing a skylight.

    I love how you did the back doors! I'm thinking about putting tiles in my van too. How do the ones you used stick? Are they regular tiles?

    • @rexkitchens1567
      @rexkitchens1567 Před 4 lety +1

      I think the tiles are not lies -- but tile-patterned plastic bits

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +3

      Thank you! They are self adhesive plastic tiles! They are light weight and easy to install. As you can see, we adhered them onto very thin ply, but i think they would stick directly to the metal surface as well. www.hobbylobby.com/Home-Decor-Frames/Mirrors-Wall-Decor/Adhesive-Wall-Art-Vinyl/Orange-Medallion-Self-Adhesive-Tile-Wall-Decor/p/80919575

    How’d you connect the wood window panels on the side doors? Did u use a silicone or contact cement or something?

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +1

      The panels attached to the metal doors originally with 9 or 10 neodymium magnets. I would not recommend this as they kept falling when we closed the sliding doors or went on rough terrain. The magnets are also expensive. So I ended up using four one inch L brackets (per side)and screwed the brackets to the door and hammered them to close around the panel, something like securing a diamond to a pendent. You can see what I mean in our 2nd video which is a tour of the inside of the van.

  • @MrElecterik
    @MrElecterik Před 4 lety +1

    Nice, but is it not too dark inside without windows?

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 4 lety +2

      We are mostly in the van to watch movies, read, relax or sleep so having no windows helps us feel a little more private. If we are camping somewhere beautiful and hanging out inside the van, we will often leave the doors open for fresh air and light! We also have USB rechargeable magnetic lights that provide great light when we are in the van!

    • @LauraConnected
      @LauraConnected  Před 3 lety +1

      Great question! We discussed drilling holes for ventilation under the mattress and fully intended to, but never checked the box. It’s an easy activity so thank you for the reminder! We also have a protective cover on our mattress that acts as a moisture barrier. Hope this helps and don’t hesitate to ask any other questions!

      The short answer is we don't actually know.(I'll take a guess and say a couple miles per gallon max) We find the terrain is the biggest factor in MPG. In regards to converting cargo vans it will be hard to beat this models MPG.
