I would personally categorize this as breakbeat. Thou it has sounds/sequences found it dnb, jungle, idm, and even ambient music. It's all technical generalizations in the end created by labels and audio libraries to categorize music so users can easily shuffle through the tracks they wish to listen to. That's why I love tracks like these...it pops the music industry's idealism behind genre categorization so well. Expands the mind along with music as a whole.
Holy crap, nearly got hypnotized into falling asleep. Just... nearly allowed it. Only stopped and fought back to being awake to save my DS from hitting the floor....
Wouldnt the flashbulb and squarepusher be more in the direction of breakcore/idm? I mean, when I hear drum and bass, I think of reese and more jungleoriented stuff.
All three artists do not operate exactly within the confounds of the genre, but dnb was one of the main inspirations for all of those's early work. For the traditional holy trinity of drum and bass I would say: Photek Dillinja Goldie
IDM ia sub-genre of EDM due to most of the workings of the track being done digitally. It was originally refereed to as Left Field and still is in certain music listings. Genres can be very tricky when it comes to the particularities of tracks like this that also could be categorized as breakbeat/liquid dnb. In the end it will be deemed what ever the artist feels best fits the track. I personally hate to even put my own music in genres due to this very fact..just call it love and leave it be. :)
Man, this is some of the best drum & bass I've ever heard. Glitchy, minimal at points yet huge at others, polished to perfection but still kinda filthy, with great harmonic weavings and stuff. 5/5.
introspective dance sounds perfect to me,tho i always thought of the intelligent part as being a way of showing its more of a mentally active music as apposed to physically active/energetic beats.. intelligent just wasn' the right word i think, some hipster kids probly thought it up and had no problem with it ha, however i have noticed that the people who listen to music similar to this are usually very spiritually advanced/intelligent so it does sort of fit in that sense ;)
@tommyblunt Yeah. Check out 'Drum N Bass For Papa' by Plug (an alias of Luke Vibert) for more stuff like it. Or some of the less dark Metalheadz stuff from the '90s.
Whatever happened to that clip playing this song in the background, involving the Asian (Singapore?) train ride ,in my opinion amateur footage...Really liked the way motion picture and music melted together in that one...peace and carrots
@TheKillysOwn I'm pretty sure Schimmi didn't mean it in a bad way. He never said that Flashbulb ripped it...more like it's similar to Aphex. Nothing insulting in that statement :D.
Wait a minute, you liked the track? Then listen and feel! Art, actual music, these things should not have "genera" or "labels." This defeats the purpose of art which is supposed to be subjective, that is, always open to interpretation. The mona lisa is more than a portrait. It is the artist's INTERPRETATION of Mona Lisa. Enjoy this relaxation
@TheAsianStyle Are you doing that because you hate how IDM stands for "Intelligent" Dance Music? Because I salute you, considering I do too. I love IDM, but I hate the name.
I agree that it's up to the artist but I can't really say this is much like Dnb. It's not amen-based and might be in some weird measure (I don't know, I'm not very good with my musical-theory).
IDM = Industrial Dance Music EDM = Electronic Dance Music learn your acronyms. IDM is closer to death metal mixed with techno and has very little relation to EDM. The reason you can't figure out what the I in IDM stands for is cause you're using the wrong acronym ... but sadly this is very prevalent today especially among kids that go to these meg a festivals where the most popular drug is alcohol .. sigh...
Joesdf Joesdfg incorrect my friend. IDM stands for "intelligent" dance music, not "industrial". A bit pretentious in my opinion to imply that it is for intelligent people. It is tough to categorize music as IDM because there isn't really a specific feel or sound to IDM music, it is more of a fusion of dnb, ambient, and many other styles of electronic music. Check out aphex twin if you like this kind of music. He was pretty much the pioneer of IDM, (or "braindance" as he liked to call it) in the 80's and 90's.
EDM and IDM are outdated descriptors utilized by overgeneralizing music publications in the mid 80s and mid 90s respectively. All EDM and IDM albums require additional relationships and descriptions often obtained by stacking sub-genres on one another or relating the respective album to a hybridization of other albums. Tl;dr: EDM and IDM are such broad blanket statements for music that they really don’t mean much on their own.
I would personally categorize this as breakbeat. Thou it has sounds/sequences found it dnb, jungle, idm, and even ambient music. I would personally categorize this as breakfast.

Holy crap, nearly got hypnotized into falling asleep.
Just... nearly allowed it. Only stopped and fought back to being awake to save my DS from hitting the floor....
this album cover is fucking amazing
IDM fantastique ¡¡
atmospheric
This is phenomenal.
We should just start calling it "Progressive Dance Music" it fits.
Squarepusher, The Flashbulb and Amon Tobin = holy trinity of Drum and Bass.
Wouldnt the flashbulb and squarepusher be more in the direction of breakcore/idm?
I mean, when I hear drum and bass, I think of reese and more jungleoriented stuff.
eery you are both right, benn is classified IDM but he does touch a wide spectrum of genres
All three artists do not operate exactly within the confounds of the genre, but dnb was one of the main inspirations for all of those's early work.
For the traditional holy trinity of drum and bass I would say:
Photek
Dillinja
Goldie
unbelievable . amazing stuff

To the 9 people that disliked this gem made in 2009,
You have no soul or friends.

@tommyblunt Yeah. Check out 'Drum N Bass For Papa' by Plug (an alias of Luke Vibert) for more stuff like it. Or some of the less dark Metalheadz stuff from the '90s.

Good trance indeed.
***** i know, i meant the altered state of mind.
+Andrew Martin (Gregory J. Boscole) Trance as in the genre of music, or the state of trance? This genre is atmospheric drum and bass/IDM.
I'm jealous.
Does any one know the name of the Sleep Therapy audio sample?! I'd love to try the whole tape.
sæm
Alex K did you ever find it mate?
Yeah did you ever find it? I'm still lost! :(
@@ESteer182 nope
@@radanju3 nope

i just consider the I in IDM stands for Individualistic. it is a dumb name but is categoristically useful
Whatever happened to that clip playing this song in the background, involving the Asian (Singapore?) train ride ,in my opinion amateur footage...Really liked the way motion picture and music melted together in that one...peace and carrots
@perfectchaoslemon It was that boring? jkjk, this track is beautiful. Benn is genius!
you are over the expression of "music" :)
@TheKillysOwn I'm pretty sure Schimmi didn't mean it in a bad way. He never said that Flashbulb ripped it...more like it's similar to Aphex. Nothing insulting in that statement :D.
this sure is some good drum and bass
mine to lol.
Red Extensions Of Me = red miles
sounds like vospi
@tommyblunt breakcore, for sure.
@tommyblunt Breakcore/IDM :)

Every song has influence from a style. How are we going to find the type of music we feel like listening to without a category?
lite it up @ 3:33 : )
Zero dislikes, why am I not surprised?
The 1 dislike comes from the sake of making dislike not zero.
This belongs in an Adult Swim bump
Where is that voice sample from??
@TheAsianStyle Are you doing that because you hate how IDM stands for "Intelligent" Dance Music?
Because I salute you, considering I do too. I love IDM, but I hate the name.
One guy is not happy with his life
I know, its kinda lame. Its just a placeholder to me though. Like the "M" in M-Theory =)
Pretty ill, would you consider this drum and bass?
What even is this comment section?
@AnonymousMusician2
disliked because of this comment
awesome track though
Chillout Dnb? :D
