  • Courage and comfort can't ride the same horse. Do you ever wish you were braver? If I just had the guts. Margie shows you how to find all the courage you need. A global authority on courage who has walked her ‘live brave’ talk since growing up the big sister of seven on a dairy farm in rural Australia. The first in her family to attend college, Margie has lived in multiple countries and recently returned to the US. Margie pairs a global perspective with her diverse background in psychology, coaching and Fortune 500 business to unlock the potential that fear holds captive - in individuals and organizations alike. Trusted by Salesforce, NASA, Dell, Morgan Stanley and United Nations Foundation to deliver transformative programs that foster courage, creativity and collaboration, her 5 bestselling books reflect her passion for helping people overcome timidity, step into their brilliance and lead more purposeful lives with greater impact. Margie loves adventure travel and hiking in beautiful places, most recently climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with her husband and their four children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

WOW! This is one of my favorite TED Talks. Beautiful command of language. Practical steps to take to advance courageous choices. Brilliant point---We fail so much more from timidity than we ever do from over daring. Margie does a great job of reminding us---this is the one life we have to live. YEAH!

I try to process all I feel,
    as I watch this video...
But the pain is too great,
    too big, too overwhelming.
    smothering: I am breathless.
    I am drowning, suffocating.
    Dying of loneliness and longing.
    I can't bear it. I just can't.
Please, please pray for me, friends.
May the prayer(s) you say for me, bless you, as well...

From the talk, we must be overdaring, fear nothing to fuel our lack of courage. I believe that though we are born to be timid, that allows us to make thorough cosideration before action. You can't deny it as a bad thing. We should become brave than ever lest it becomes a shortcoming. We are not to be crazily brave which is against nature and not plausible.

You want to know about real bravery? I give you….Susan Creswell, from last year’s Norfolk Bravery Awards. Susan is braver than ten firemen, or a dozen policemen. Four years ago, Susan lost her hand in a cake-cutting machine. She managed to walk 400 yards, holding her hand (in her other hand), where she hailed a taxi. One can only imagine what that must have looked like. The quick thinking taxi driver drove her to a newsagent, where the hand was packed in Soleros, Magnums, Mini Milks and a Feast. After six hours of surgery, the hand was sown back on. Sadly, it didn’t work, so off it came again. But she still had one good hand, and she was damned if anyone was going to take that off her. (No one was suggesting they were going to do that). Anyway, the point is, four years later, she is credit controller at Cromwell Certificated Bailiffs. So fellow CZcamsrs, please give a big hand… Applaud! Applaud like mad for Susan Cresswell.
