Lorne Michaels/SNL seems to prefer performers who like live vocals buried in a mix with an album track. Watching acts like Sabrina Carpenter and Dua Lipa this past season made me want to throw something at the tv. Years ago, we laughed at Ashlee Simpson’s on-air flub. Now, stagecraft > musical talent seems the standard. It should be renamed Saturday Night Live-ish.
Technically they've already been playing arenas this year, as the opening to Jonas brothers. And I'm pretty sure they would get their own act in no time
This performance is clearly heavily polished and mastered. Not saying its not them singing but they wouldnt be able to recreate this quality in a live tv performance - just impossible.
I sent it to CBC 3 times. Wont stop until its aired.
@@eoghan375I just saw them live in Germany for the first time. I was SHOCKED at the great intonation and especially Gracie’s ability to shred those powerful lines deep into their set. She’s like a barely contained nuclear reaction.
I’ve been let down by plenty of live performances, but Lawrence was definitely not one of them. I think they would kill on SNL.
What I actually think is the best part is at 4:07 when Gracie sees Linus’ leaps and can’t contain her joy and just lets out a little squeal right in rhythm and key with the song
So, I don’t have a roof on my house anymore because Gracie’s high notes in that second half of the song completely blew it off! I mean HOLY SHIT, man!!
Wonder if insurance will cover that.

I’m literally writing a tv show right now and this is absolutely on the soundtrack.
As a South African, I’ve made peace with the fact that I’ll probably never see this band live. But , please (I’m literally on my knees) put this version on a streaming platform! I need this as part of my routine (all my routines- morning, coffee break, pre - Teams meeting , noon walks etc. )!!!
The biggest hurdle I think for that my guy is them being in the public eye. If there popular enough I can't see why they wouldn't go. They JUST did Europe.

Clyde - the bastard son of Randy Newman and Ray Charles on overdrive - with his incomprehensible playing and somewhat Vishnu-like multitudinous paws rocking out these many piano licks to perfection.
Gracie - Aretha Franklin meets the Goddess Athena on steroids - belting out the most soulful, yet improbable chords/range with such beauty and panache with lifetimes of style to spare on too many fronts to even begin to comprehend.
Timeless.
That, combined with these range-filled, spine-chilling singers and incredible band/players….? Dizzying yet so very humbling.
Inspirational galore, yet somewhat distressing to even call myself a musician anymore after witnessing these two extraterrestrial wunderkinds who have recently become my newest obsession.
This kind of talent, energy, songwriting, composition, enthusiasm and overall performance is JUST what we need for these sunken times.

I'm one of those 'old farts' at 63, and I'm not really impressed with today's pop music, but this...this...THIS is out of this freakin world! Kinda a throwback to 70's soul and funk - and DAYUM, the power and feeling behind Gracie's voice - definitely NOTHING like what's out there now!!

The dopamine hit I get from watching Lawrence acoustic-ish is unmatched. Just an insane level of incredible talent all around the room.
Gracie at 3:50ish just blew my mind. Howwwww can anyone belt mixed voice that high with such control. I feel like she keeps pushing her limits. Love it. Inspiring. Also super impressed by the sound techs.

Saw them in DC a few years back, going to Philly to see them again. I have literally never done that for any musical artist in my adult life. Love musicians that just love creating and sharing their music, you can see the joy in their performances.

The first time I heard of these guys was when I saw them open for Lake Street Dive back around 2017. I heard glimpses of Chaka Khan in her voice - especially in the upper register. And this just reinforces that. This was phenomenal!
First time seeing these guys, but the lead woman and the piano guy rocked their vocals. The lady is a genuine rockstar, Joane Jett and Bon Jovi levels of vocals.
