@WoodenClockwerk because while the original statement in the video wasn't inaccurate I just thought that it sold the Japanese cultural things and symbolism a little short and I think my statement was a little more accurate in describing the anime. To each their own though you can interpret it however you want in any way you want.
FLCL is so it's own thing, it defines the era it came out in. It's style, feel, and impact are still so unique, it's "sequels" fail to come close to capturing that same lightning in a bottle vibe.

Absolute Classic, most people didn’t get the message on first watch because most of us were kids at the time, but after rewatching it’s a hell of a coming of age story about overcoming the pitfalls of adolescence, “Nothing will ever happen if you don’t swing the bat”
FLCL is NOT a show. It is a collection of animated music videos for a rock album pretending to be a show. The only thing keeping this masterpiece of chaos together is the music. Because it's definitely not held together by plot
I remember the outro of Fooly Cooly was a fever dream that I thought wasn't real growing up and thinking that shit was so cool only to find out I wasn't dreaming and watched the whole original show. I may get into the reboot.
Hell yeah! FLCL Alternative shaped my adulthood a bit, too! Sometimes you gotta let go, sometimes dreams will be shattered, so you just start anew. Sometimes, solving someone's issue can be just being there for them when they need you and not getting involved all time.
@pyrolee17 I dont remember much of progressive. I think I was so confused by everything. I just remember 2 girls kissing a robot and a drink still being bitter. It was so random. I actually started with Alternative
I won’t lie this was a classic. This show, Bleach, and DBZ definitely got me into anime at a young age. There have been no regrets since. Man imagine a video game for this show. It could be like Persona or actually maybe a Kingdom Hearts type game. Where you play as a slightly age up Naota. Damn that sounds kinda heat.
Definitely deserves the attention it’s getting now ; people will hate on this older animation style but it encapsulates so much feeling most 2000s kids remember
Takun taking the powers of the Pirate King! You just had to be there!! My level of salty when it didn’t revisit this story for the next FLCL was in measurable
For the longest time I thought this show was just some fever dream from my childhood. I'm glad I was wrong this show is hilarious and insightful at times
FLCL has that spot in my heart. Being the same age as Naota when first watching the show and then going to school the morning after a episode aired. The feels, I now have to rewatch.
FLCL is the type of show you can put on at any time and be that kid who just came home from school and turn on the TV to toonami and binged a few episodes of dragonball. It brings you back to that time every time.
Fun Fact: The director of Avatar the Last Airbender ordered all of his staff members to buy FLCL and watch every episode of it. FLCL is actually what inspired Avatar's animation style.
Fooly cooly was the Shiz. We I was a kid this anime was Peak. DBZ was #1. But I can honestly say I knew about Fooly cooly before I knew about Naruto and Bleach 😂
Flcl is imprinted on my psyche. I cant even explain how it made me feel when i first watched it. It was so laced with undertone and subtext that watching it even now, two decades and change later, i still am taking new meanings from it. What an amazing piece of work.
FLCL is probably my favorite anime. I like short series because they can fire on all cylinders the whole time. No padding, no filler, just gunning it for 6 straight episodes of weird, cool, gorgeous, weird, heartfelt, weird anime gold.
The soundtrack is amazing too. It also makes you read between the lines on how the characters feel/think. Whereas other more modern anime will have characters just monolog or have a full blown discussion on philosophy and their personal beliefs at the most inconvenient times.
Bro I remember watching one episode of this a couple of years ago and not understanding a damned thing but the animation looked so smooth so I was hooked.
FLCL is a summer defining show, those six episodes will have you enraptured all summer long and just puts you in this state of serenity and fleetingness. At least that was how I felt twelve years ago. Oh and the soundtrack is just perfect, The Pillows are just ugh~ 😫
The soundtrack also slaps, had their albums for years now on my phone. The artstyle was super unique in the manga and the anime influenced my art style. Loved watching it growing up
FLCL and Cowboy Bebop were 2 anime I had to rewatch. I enjoyed the action as a pre-teen/teenager. It wasn't until I was in my late teens early 20s that I payed the actual story and messages attention.
I remember in 2018, Toonami had an April Fools prank where they broadcast the Japanese versions of the shows they would normally show at the time, and FLCL Alternative was the first thing presented for the night. It was also a surprise announcement of new sequels for the show after several years. Some time after, they ran the original FLCL, followed by Progressive, and Alternative in the weeks after. That was my first introduction to this series. I don't remember much from back then, and I wasn't sure what the overall message was at the time, but I liked watching it nonetheless.
An amalgamation of nonsense that tries to make sense? Sounds right up my alley
Worth the watch.
@@BloodyMistGeneral is it streaming anywhere other than crunchyroll?
that’s what im saying i will most definitely give it a watch
It's just 6 episodes so it's a quick afternoon
I've seen it a few times now via Toonami and the amount of innuendos definitely caught the attention of my parents (My ass got beat).
This is the anime that I would either wake up to during the night or randomly end up on the channel
I had that exact same experience. I just woke up in the middle of the night to see whatever the hell was going on there
