I agree 100%. I don't know what they'll do to the crows... I'm worried for sure. At least we'll get to see Nikolai and Kaz interact, but that's also weird, because it will change their dinamics for the crooked kingdom. And about Nikolai... I'm worried. I think they won't show the plot twist.

I think the problem is that they need certain numbers to even hope to get season 3 (or that rumored Six of Crows spinoff), but they will never get those numbers on Shadow and Bone material alone. But for non-readers, their presence has to be justified somehow? Which I understand, and will accept if that's what it takes, but it still feels like they are damaging the story of the duology by adapting the characters to such a grand good vs evil storyline.

I disagree. S&b has a lot of potential to be a good series, like Idk maybe adopt few plot lines from the books but not everything because Alina is annoying, maybe focus on the geopolitical situation, like they are literally in war with everyone even among themselves , maybe focus on that and give us everyone's pov and develop the plot and the characters, but all we got is Darkling is bad so whatever he does is bad, Alina is good so whatever she does is good and it's a very simple way of writing almost cliche, how. It's so rushed. The crows did not belong in the show because they are grey characters in the underground (where everyone do questionable things to survive) while s&b setting is very black and white, like there is a contradiction of how we are supposed to perceive the same action; for example we see the narrative telling us how bad the Darkling is because he is a killer then the crows get praised for the same thing he did. S&B could've had a similar plot to GoT, if the writers took us to every side in the story and she'd light on who they are as people, as soldiers, as rulers, as a nation but maybe that's asking too much from LB and Netflix writers.

I'm so grateful for the video. The creators of the show put in the crows purely for profit bc they were the most popular, but it just watered them down so much. For those who read the soc duology, it's such a disservice.
And even if you just know about the grisha trilogy and haven't read it (like me), putting in the crows was a mistake because it waters down *Alina* too. In the the first book, Alina had more fire - both her and Mal did. She yelled at him in the scene where they argued. Alina is an interesting character, and making her East Asian enhanced that characterisation. The problem is that the creators thought shadow and bone would be boring without the crows. And whilst that could be true, they could have used those scenes to enhance Alina's story and make it even more interesting because of how she fits into the world of the grishaverse. The problem is that with the addition of the crows, she's not really allowed to just...exist. She *has* to meet them, she *has* to be kidnapped by them, even though the entire point of the crows is that they were never entwined in a chosen one narrative. Scenes that could have focused on strengthening the worldbuilding and given more of an insight into the relations between Ravka and the other countries like Shu Han, *where Alina is also from*, were given to the crows. Not to mention we get no mention of Novyi Zem being the only place where grisha aren't persecuted, which is a pretty important fact.

As a reader, I feel like they humanized him quite a bit to make his character seem relatable and like he might develop a redemption arc, but in the books he felt a lot more ......villainous than in the show.
(Same goes for kaz, they softened him up. He was a lot less expressive when it came to inej, or atleast wouldn't open up as much as he did in the first season. )
Back to the darkling, his intentions were in the right place, but he went too far at times. (Spoiler here) he mutilated genya simply because she hesitated and let alina go when alina was making her escape with nikolai in book 2. He blinded his mother for helping alina. He basically murdered most of the second army who stood against him. He was the reason ravka stood divided and weakened for CENTURIES. He killed alina's childhood caretakers just to make a point. With every cruelty he made it clear he would get ravka to the top, but without any regard for the many caught in the crossfire

I suppose its because Shadow and Bone comes first and characters and plot lines from the shadow and bone are included and referenced in six of crows (including lots of the world building). Sensible to the Crow's fan purist in you girl. I have faith then by the fact they put book 2 and 3 together they need to put more Crow's screen time to create attachement feeling for new fans and numbers watching for the season 3 plot (Ice Court Heist) or spin off for the Crows as the rumor said. We have an amazing frame of Ketterdam in the teaser so, I decide to trust Leigh Bardugo and the scripters to respect the characters but create a different interaction/ plot without sinking the chemistry between them. I had read 6 times the duology of the Crows (3 times in french and 3 time in english) so if they want to create something new with the plot without sacrified the characters and group chemistry....I'am all in to be suprise and scoth taping to the screen for more intense emotion and reaction.
Pretty sure at 99.9% that it's not Nikolai when Kaz said "If you die, we will not get paid." Nikolai behind look much better than that 😂 !

With this trailer drop I've been reminded how against the combination of the Grishaverse series' into one show I've been. It's been so long since S1 dropped that I kind of forgot how annoyed I was at the overall decision, which I feel like was done because SoC is more popular and loved compared to the S&B trilogy and they wanted to be able to adapt all the books in the Grishaverse. It was probably less likely that there would be more seasons if it was solely the S&B trilogy. Not saying the show wouldn't be popular or successful, but including the crows definitely increased the excitement/anticipation and viewership. I really love the setup in SoC and don't like that with S1 we immediately get insight and context for what is going on with certain characters- like I think they messed too much with Nina and Matthias as well as breezed by their backstory. There was also such a disconnect between their scenes, the rest of the crows, and the S&B characters imo. I respect the effort but I just don't think it's working very well, and it kind of comes off like fan service because there are people just waiting for the real SoC duology premise. And I really don't know what the crows are going to do this season with it being books 2 AND 3 of the trilogy. That's already so much to put in 8 episodes, continuing with character storylines, introducing more characters and lore, and now in addition to that incorporating other characters originally from a different timeline without complicating/messing up _their_ backstories/arcs. ooof! (okay I typed all that before finishing the video and now you're basically saying the same thing, lol.) I think if they were really worried about ratings and wanting to adapt everything like I assume was at least a *factor,* I think they could have adapted the SoC duology first, then S&B, then RoW- or just an overall Grishaverse series which could be done in a few different ways. I think in either of these cases they would have gotten fans of *any* of the books to watch entirely and gain new fans without confusing them. I remember a couple cons from people who watched S1 but didn't read the books was that it was info dumpy and confusing, and they knew the crows were significant but didn't know why- which in a way isn't even really true because they are from a separate series.
Also I'm so glad you mentioned how when they meet Nikolai they don't know it's really him. I really wanted there to be another actor cast as Sturmhond- fans of the books would know what was up but that would be such a surprise for people who just watch the show. But it seems they are abandoning that in the show from what is in the trailer. I could be wrong but it's very clearly the actor who plays Nikolai.
I'm really rusty on the info and exact details of the books (and I haven't read the RoW duology, yet) but I'm thinking Zoya and Inej are looking for the firebird. I think in S&S the characters were looking for the firebird in a desert or at least rural place. And if that's right I'm also thinking maybe all the characters will be looking for the amplifiers, one group looking for the seawhip and the other looking for the firebird and that's how the crows can be incorporated....
The trailer got me really excited about the show continuing but I'm also apprehensive and nervous!

I watched the show before ever reading any of the books and to be completely honest I would not have finished it without the crows being there. The only character I like from Shadow and Bone is the Darking because he’s such a complex villain. I recently finished the S&B trilogy and without Nicholai I probably would have DNFed it and skipped to the crows. I really don’t like Alina or Mal so the reading the books from Alina’s POV was a chore for me. I just started Six of Crows and basically they just finished planning after getting the whole group together. However I enjoy how different the book is from the show for far. They feel like two fun versions of the same thing if that makes sense? And to your point about Nina and Matthias in particular, I loved their scenes in the show and it actually makes the scenes in the book just as fun for me to read because even though I know their history the rest of the group doesn’t so seeing the crows reactions to the conflict between the two has been fun. So I guess my point is that I am able to treat the show as a completely separate thing for the book and still enjoy both when it comes to the crows storyline and the show has improved the shadow and bone story line to me because of their inclusion. I look forward to seeing how them being involved will change even more things.
