OVER 1 YEAR with my 2022 NISSAN SENTRA SV. HOW IT IS REALLY?

  • I have owned this car for just over 1.5 years. Yes there are some issues, but they are all fixed and the car is good to go, but what about the CVT transmission everyone is talking about. I get into that too

We have a 17 Rogue we bought new. I heard the same scary stories regarding the CVT. Of course AFTER I bought the SUV….Sooooo what I have done to ensure longevity of the CVT I have simply serviced the CVT at the dealership at 30k and again at 60k. They charged me roughly $200 each time. So far we have 78k miles now and have had ZERO issues. I like your loaded Sentra! Beautiful interior!

A coworker has like a 2021 Sentra with around 50k miles and he loves it. He does take care of his Sentra with 5k mile oil changes and 30k mile CVT fluid changes. The problem with the transmissions and oil changes is the people listen to the manufacturers about 10k mile oil changes and "life long" transmission fluid and no service needed due to the sealed transmission, which are a bunch of BS. I hope you keep that Sentra long term. Subscribed. I wouldn't get a used Sentra with CVT with more than 30k miles UNLESS there's a good maintenance record with CVT service and timely oil changes 👍

Just an FYI. As the original owner I recently traded in a 2013 Nissan Altima SL with 137,000 miles on it which had a CVT. I can attest that even though this model was supposed to be the worst year for Nissan CVT transmissions, I never had any issues with it or other mechanical problems in 10 years of ownership driving in Michigan weather. Normal maintenance of oil changes, batteries, tires and one brake replacement. The only real issue I had was a problem with the low beam headlight assemblies which I replaced on my own dime and subsequently got full
Reimbursement from Nissan even though I was far removed from any warranty coverage. Also I only changed the CVT transmission fluid once at 90,000 miles. Same time I flushed the break fluid and antifreeze. So all in all I had a very nice car, basically problem free for 10 years. I ended up buying a new 2023 Altima SV AWD with a premium package upgrade. The only difference from the SV to SL was leather seats, premium sound system, heated steering wheel and I believe wider tires. Overall, I fully expect this Nissan to provide me with another 10 years of problem free driving.

Thank you very much Mikey! I have just bought a Sentra and your opinion is very valuable.
Before, I had a Renault Fluence with Nissan engine and CVT transmission for 60.000 miles without a single problem.
    Greetings from Uruguay!

I enjoyed this video. I have a 2022 Sentra sv and I have the same noise from the AC and heat Also in the summer my AC slams if I don’t start low and slow. When turning it on.

I have a 2023 Nissan Kicks. It is a year old. I have slightly under 4,000 miles on it. In the next week, it will get its second oil change. I plan to get the transmission fluid and filters changed at 20,000 miles, sooner if I notice a problem. I have not had any problems with the car, and I drive it in town, and I drive it on the expressway a couple times a week. The only thing I notice is that I barely hear the engine when I am inside the car when I first start it. After driving it awhile, especially on the expressway, I hear a louder idle inside the car after I've stopped, and I'm ready to turn the car off. I've wondered if that has anything to do with the heat created by the CVT as the car gets hotter. I don't know. However, in traffic, the cars next to me and behind me (at a stop light) make much, much louder sounds while idling, so I think all the negative comments on CZcams have me overly worried.
All the sensors on the car work exceptionally well. In the terrible cold and heavy snow this winter, they iced over a couple times, but as I drove the car, the ice melted or flew away and everything was fine. Once on the expressway, it told me snow was covering a sensor (it didn't actually say snow) and asked if I wanted it temporarily turned off. I told it yes. After a while the snow blew off, and it worked fine. There was only one time on a regular road that I got a scary warning message and the car slowed. But it went away almost immediately. When I looked in the manual and online, I decided I had not tightened the gas cap enough and that was the cause of the problem. I've heard Honda owners complain that their new car stops for no reason because of the sensors (and some Nissan owners too), but I have not had that problem, and I hope I never do. Everything works on my car the way it is supposed to. I do not have climate control. I have to turn on the heat or air and manually adjust it, but that suits me fine. I drove a Kicks with climate control as a rental car, and it was either too hot or too cold.
Also, everyone who does a review of the car complains how slow it accelerates. But I have no problem merging on the expressway or changing lanes. I'm not one of those speed demons who changes lanes a lot. I now even take the car in city traffic. There I find it easy to switch to the right lane quickly if someone is making a left-hand turn and blocking the left lane. The car is easy to maneuver in city traffic. It is my first SUV, albeit a small one, so it took me time to get used to the larger blind spot area and to learn how to accelerate when going on the expressway. I try to accelerate slowly, but sometimes drivers behind me just won't let me, so I hope I'm not pushing the car too much.
Thank you for posting about your car. It is helpful to hear the experiences of others, especially when they are generally problem-free. There are so many negative comments on CZcams. I realize many of these comments are from people who have never even owned a Nissan. However, my last car, a Honda, was not problem free. It is the only car I ever owned where the heater core went out, which was a major, expensive replacement, and the car never lost the smell of pancake syrup when the heat was turned on. Also, something was always wrong with the brakes. They never stopped well at short distances. Finally, as it got older the engine idle was erratic and rough. Therefore, I question all the praise for Honda's. But only time will tell how I end up feeling about Nissan cars.

as long as you changed the transmission fluids every every 20 to 30,000 miles then you shouldn’t have problems with your transmission

At 20:00 you mentioned you could change the belt on the cvt if you feel slipping or loss of power....is it possible to replace just the belt on the cvt incase it breaks ? My mechanic told me you cant replace the cvt belt you would have to just get a new transmission ... is this true?

    • @sneakeasy8614
      @sneakeasy8614 Před 2 měsíci

It would require taking out the whole transmission to replace the cvt belt?

Totally agree about the weight of vehicle and cvt. I have a 2021 and 2014 versa they have improved that cvt it’s much more responsive. Key for me get one under 15 k miles so you know it’s going to be serviced . Great car to hand down to my son the 2014 is still going same.

I have a 2012 Corolla with 182k miles. I never turn on the climate control unless I see from the gage the car is warmed up.😅 Otherwise your blowing cold air. With all vehicles you just can't constrict vehicles while they are warming otherwise your putting your engine through a huge strain.
One easy and inexpensive way I care for my transmission oil is I siphon out 2 quarts and add 2 new quarts. Then after one week do it again. And I have noticed my transmission fluid is redder. My mechanic has told me plenty of times that dropping all the transmission fluid in any car will create slippage. So even though my way is mixing and perhaps not as good as a full drop. I can tell anyone I haven't had ANY issues with my transmission. Dropping my pan and filter is not as big a deal as many might think. Sometimes pans can leak after it has been taken off😅.
