  • This is a review of my Selle SMP TRK saddle. I've had it for two years, ridden 15,0000 km with it, and done most of that mileage when touring. For anyone looking for a touring or everyday saddle, this is probably a review worth watching.

    Seriously, at $.005 per kilometer, that's a lot of value for a saddle. There should be no expectation that a saddle will last for 10s of thousands of kilometers without any signs of wear and tear. I would happily fork over $60 for a new saddle after 12,000 kilometers. I think it's important to state that the SMP TRK is not leather. Being a synthetic material that is subjected to all sorts of weather, sweat, and sitting/riding friction for thousands of KMs it's not unreasonable to expect a breakdown of materials over time. I would be interested to see a comparison between other premium brand saddles at this price-point over similar use and distance. I'm guessing that the SMP would still rank close to the top.

      Thanks for the maths and I might be expecting too much! I like it enough though that I have since bought another one!! Comfort is where they score well. Appreciate the input. Take care . JP

      I definitely recommend this one in that case. The cutout channel really does the job of relieving pressure on your undercarriage and despite it not being perfect it's super comfortable.

    Fair and informative review I'd say! You might even be a bit harsh given it's price point. Maybe the amount of kms within such a short time is all you can expect? Interesting to find if Selle give a time/usage warning with their products

    • @Biking360
      @Biking360  Před rokem +1

      I pretty much agree that you can't really expect a lot more for the price. Hoever, i still can't help thinking that since the TRK is made by such a big and supposedly 'premium' saddle maker they could do a little better!

    Thx for this. I'll probably change mine out around 10-12k. I'm a heavier rider than you. I also have the Brooks Cambium C19 (wider version of the C17) on one of my bikes and I love it. In Canada, at least, it is more competitively priced than the Selle and imo, for the rides I do, as comfortable. I do a daily ride of 14 km and on the weekends over 50 km. So I'm not putting on the daily mileage some riders may do.

  • @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures

    Thanks for the review JP. Very informative. Have you considered the Brooks C17 with the cutout? I have been using the C15 and love it, but by all accounts the C17 cutout is even more comfortable. I just got the C17 and will be doing a review shortly. I hope all is well my friend and congrats on 1000 subs!

      @@michaelhayward7572 yes that is correct. As a Canadian the best way I can describe the rubber is that it is made out of the same material as a hockey puck lol. But in all seriousness they are very comfortable saddles. Cheers

      @Biking360  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for the congrats :) I have a C17 without the cutout which I find very uncomfortable. I was out with an old guy this week and he had the B17 carved. That sagged in the middle nicely and might be what I need. I am thinking of giving it a go.

    How wide do your sit bones measure which made you choose the large size over the medium? Maybe I missed it in this video or the previous one?

    • @Biking360
      @Biking360  Před 11 měsíci

      I have never measured them but I am tall at 6'2" so made a guess. I have big hands, big feet, and broad shoulders so just presumed I would also have large sit bones.

    Great review! But selle is not a manufacturer.. Selle means saddle. The manufacturer in this case is SMP. Other Italian brands are e.g. Selle Royal and Selle Italia.

    Is this more padded than the "Extra" version? I know the next one down is the Evolution or Nymbus as it's now called, then after that there's a level with no padding. I have had the TRK before and sold it because it was just too padded, but I am on an Evolution now and wondered if the Extra is sort of between the Evolution and the TRK for the amount of padding? There are charts online with all of this stuff on but they don't mention the TRK or Extra.

    • @Biking360
      @Biking360  Před 8 měsíci

      I have no experience of the Extra, Evolution or Nymbus so cannot comment on any of these. However, I can say that the TRK had quite a lot of padding. However, if you want a less padded version you could go for the gel version of the TRK. I have this, and have also done a review of it, though frankly I still prefer the padded version and especially on rides over 50 km. Hope this helps. Take care. Jay

      @@Biking360 Cheers Jay. I'm just going to get the Extra and see what it's like. It's 140mm and the TRK (Medium) is 160mm so that's probably a clue 🙂

      @Biking360  Před rokem +1

      I take your point but what I was really trying to get across, possibly badly, was that I thought it would have lasted longer. I never would expect it to last as long as a B17... which I have btw!

      Which seat is the best for normal trousers?

    • @ericpmoss
      @ericpmoss Před 18 dny

      @@snorttroll4379 good question, but hard to answer (down to a model number, anyway). My favorite saddle ever was the Ideale Model 92, which was a wide triangular shaped all-leather saddle that would last >> 30,000 miles if you keep it clean and dry. It was a natural color so I never worried about dye staining my clothes. It also worked with my crazy-wide sit bones, and as it distributed pressure over such a wide area, abraded my shorts the least. But sadly, saddles are so personal, the only value in a review is to remark on build quality or any super-odd features. Saying "Fiz:ik is comfortable and PRO is not" is just nonsense. It fits that reviewer well, who may or may not be anything like the rest of us.
