Once I get my car finally rebuilt and running again (long story, will go into it in a video soon) I’ll be continuing mine as well, but using a billet shifter cage, and the now defunct Midship center console.

If you want to do a version 3, try the Greg’s Racing Parts Lotus gated shifter plate, I don’t know dimensionally how much different it is in the shifter itself so it may or may not fit the stock shift leaver as well as yours

So I'm actually curious if this ended up being a problem or not but, to my knowledge, you can't necessarily block the movement of the shifter like that otherwise you might not be able to get it into gear if the engine moves too much separate from the shifter itself?

It's not a problem here. For FR applications, the shifter is mounted directly on the transmission, so any engine movement means the shifter is moving too. But this is not applicable here on RR setup since the transmission is connected to the shifter only by the cable, and the outer bit of the cable is also mounted on the transmission. This is setup in the same way a bicycle handle connects to the brakes. You are able to turn the handles as much as you like, but you can still brake the same amount.

Just a thought but just maybe replace the shifter bushings? That will fix a sloppy shifter and they are really cheap

I've replaced those already. It's not enough to fix all the slop
