  • Ivan Eröd's Viola Concerto was written in 1980 and is one of the most appealing of concertos for the instrument. Performed here by Toby Appel with the MusicaNova Orchestra under the direction of Warren Cohen at the Tempe Center for the Arts on March 15 2009. This movement is especially stunning; the passage from 5:19 to the end is one of the most beautiful moments in modern music
MusicaNova Orchestra has as its mission the performance of unjustly neglected music. Find out more at www.MusicaNovaaz.com and the MusicaNova blog www.musicanovamusings.org

de las pocas y hermosas cosas que el siglo 21 nos ha podido ofrecer dentro de su caos... la música culta jamás, jamás morirá...

Who on earth disliked this? Music like this makes me proud to be a violist. ^^

@dana1159 The music is published by Doblinger, and you can even order it from sources like Sheet Music Plus, I think. If this does not work, e-mail the publisher at music@doblinger.at and they will direct you to a source for the viola/piano score. It is a great piece, and should become part of the repertoire.

Really GREAT CONCERTO - should be in every violists repertory.
Why not more concertos for this instrument?
    1. there are much less viola solists (than violin and cello)
    2. the combination with orchestra is much more difficult - instrumentation is very tricky
