The palpable discomfort around Chevy chase is really sad
I know. In some of the bloopers you can see how done Chevy is with being there. He also noticed how talented Danny is and got ridiculously jealous. He wasn’t ready to let go of his fame.
it makes me wonder how much of pierce was really just the producers letting chevy chase be himself
@@vanelle7287 oh no, it wasn’t that he was being himself, the character was basically a parody of HIM. Which he did not like lol
tbh it does make me sad because i think that part of pierce "guy that wants to be liked but pushes people away" is another reflection of the real guy. and i really hate to see someone low key emotionally vulnerable become a pariah like that even by their own doing. it makes me glad that joel and him said they always got along on set cause even a sad crotchety old man needs a friend ya know
in interviews Joel seemed aware that as the other kinda straight white guy he was uniquely equipped in a way to be a friend to chevy without it coming at the expense of himself and to be honest, he didn't have to do that. it probably didn't win him any favors with harmon. but i admire him for seeing he was in a position to be kind with this difficult guy and be a friend, and so he did
god the atmosphere between everyone when chevy chase is on set compared to not are STARK

I'm convinced everyone got influence over their lines, like they keep the same plot but they can say certain different things
Donald Glover had said that this is exactly how it was. The script would say something like „Troy says something funny.“ and he would have to improvise.

I don't even understand why Chevy got upset, outside of maybe he misunderstood something and then either tried to make it look like Donald messed up or earnestly got losr and *thought* Donald was pranking him. I'm leaning toward the latter, because I think it paints a portrait of an arrogant person who is always wrong, and that kinda person is more irritating to be around than the arrogant person who is at least right about what they're arrogant about. #rantover
The fact that Chevy Chase ended up being just as racist as his character is so insane 😭 like his entire character is making fun of a racist stereotype and he doesn't get it ??
I dunno... Pierce is extremely racist. I don't think Chevy did things to such an extreme. Still terrible, though, please don't get me wrong.
This puts so much into context about how the cast viewed Chevy. The aura coming off of Donald (best way I could think to say it) screams that he doesn't like Chevy... and it honestly looks like Chevy is completely obvious to how much they don't like him but are being respectful to his face. It was a really fascinating watch!

@@soulfinderecho6462 Yup, and it would normally be funny to go into gibberish when you flub a line, but they dislike him so much that it just came off as irritating to the others instead of funny. This whole video showed me how uncomfortable (to say the least) things were on set with him. Yikes.

The energy around this scene was soooooo uncomfortable. It reminded me of the guy on a high school sports team who teammates are nice to in front of them, but they talk smack about them behind their back and then when they are together the teammates give each other knowing looks, if that made sense?

Troy Barnes was really actually funny 😁 in the show community and he played his characters in the movies 🍿 🎥 and tv 📺 show, he’s Simba from The Lion 🦁 King 👑,Lando Calrissian from Solo: A Star ⭐️ Wars Story, Marshall Lee the Vampire 🧛 King 👑 from Adventure Time, and Miles Morales from the Ultimate Spiderman.
Because he’s really super hilarious 😂 in his movies 🎥 and tv 📺 shows

Yea, apparently Chevy Chase is a hard person to work with on set unfortunately. That’s what I’ve heard about him anyway.
Unfortunately no, he harbored a hate for most of the cast cause racism. Said Donald Glover was only funny cause he’s black. And was eventually fired in season 4 for saying the n-word a couple times to Donald and Shirley.
