- Avrie Nelms needed a heart transplant. While she was waiting on the transplant list, though, Avrie received a Berlin Heart. The Berlin Heart is an artificial heart that can be used to bridge the time to a heart transplant. It kept her alive until her successful heart transplant.

In 1998 my cousin who was 10 at the time was just days away from death when he had the Berlin heart. He was the first person/child in the uk in fact I think maybe the first person outside of Germany to have this done. His story made national newspapers. He got his transplant 3 days later and 22 years later he's still with us!! He's our miracle

the doctors went to tell my parents that a total artificial heart was my only option I ended up on the artificial heart for 3weeks and then received my transplant I am so great full to my donor family for my priceless gift my doctors are still in shock I survived

I just had a hearttransplant 5 weeks ago at 19 and I can not comprehend why children have to suffer the same thing.I mean like I am young too but seeing children this age suffering throughthe same pain is making me really sad. It is scary that children can have something like this
I'm 23 years old i was born with marfan syndrome which caused me to need heart surgery in 2009 and i thought everything would be fine but back in jan 2012 I ended up with a heart infection that caused me to go into heart failure. I coded twice on the table when they went in to repair the damage from the infection and the doctors were able to hook me up to the heart lung machine where they ok
So sad
I’m so sorry I went through this. I hope the best. I had a kidney transplant, right before it got crazy. And I hope the best for everyone.

Sending this family all of my love,heart,and prayers and I’m so sorry that she had to go through so much and so early in her life too,but I’m happy that everything is going well and that GOD has indeed blessed your family so much and has given ypir sweet,beautiful girl the best gift of all which is “LIFE” . I couldn’t think of a better gift someone could give you-especially your child . GOD was there with the family and her when she was going through her ordeals and he was there when she was undergoing her heart transplant-he was walking across her new little heart. This story was such an inspirational story and just warmed my ❤️ heart. Will she require any additional heart surgeries and what are her latest updates? My thoughts are prayers will always be with you,your family and this precious miracle child. She’s been through more than what most people have in their lifetime -she’s a normal,healthy child which I’m so happy to see and hope she continues doing so well!1 LOVE AND PRAYERS
