I know the Barny Miller TV show comments are in the feed and that many of the actors on the show were stage actors that had to do a bit of song and dance because that's how Broadway is done. What I didn't know is that a few of them started as musicians. They weren't actors that could sing and dance a bit. Max(Wojo) was a trained pianist that did club work for a living and then became an actor. Hal was a big band\swing(I think) clarinet soloist. Abe seems to do it all. He is a Showman's showman. The best.
On the Mike Douglas Show?!? I remember watching Mike Douglas! Abe looked ten years older than Mike, but was a few months younger, and ended up outliving him.

He was a fine entertainer and one of the greatest character actors of our time.
