Thank you very much for sharing ALL the reasons the game, and everything else surrounding it with the dude (not saying his name, but he's in the title of your video) who got rid of Amy Hennig, a TRUE, competant, and great writer, despite claiming to be a so called "feminist", is an absolute, ABYSSMAL failure, my man. He (you know who) not only despised and disrespected Joel, but obviously has such a disdain for strong, independent, brave, intelligent men who just so happen to be white. 😆
No matter what others, specifically the shills who champion this game and the dude (again, you know who), NEVER let them stir you away from the facts and reasons of WHY this game, like the studio, are going nowhere but DOWN. Both the game and the dude himself destroyed TLOU, and everything we love about it, as TRUE fans who wish to see it improve, but unfortunately that won't be happening, due to the dude's blatant agenda and no longer being kept under check.
One of the comments below, the guy who tried to list "reasons" as to why the game is "good", or goes on and on about Ellie, don't listen to that guy, my man. He's just another one of those shills whose trying to make excuses for a terribly made, conceived, and disrespectful game. A game that's an incoherent mess of a story, and it's like you said, my man. Gameplay DOESN'T "excuse" the MANY flaws of whatever games, and this is definitely the prime example of that.
Stand firm and ALWAYS speak your mind, my man.
First of all buddy I would like to say thank you so much for such an amazing comment ❤️. These words means a lot to me and act as a motivational force for me to produce more content. Thanks for taking your time out to comment this, made my day ngl 😁.
And yes gameplay doesn't even matters tbh, i can still sit down and hop on to gta sa or vice ciy cuz they got epic story. If graphics decided if these games were good or bad, they would have been dead by now. And yes bro, I will always speak my mind! And what I think is right ✅️
@@HaziqtheGamer Awww, you're too kind, my man! You're most welcome, and it is (and many others) who should THANK YOU again for sharing the truth on stuff like what's going with ND, and the gaming and entertainment industry as a whole! 😃💖
You're very welcome, my man! And take it from me, there will be times you'll encounter so much ignorance and shills who'll try to gaslight you, or whatever shady tactics they'll use, but NEVER falter. Speaking the truth isn't only the hardest thing, but not the most 'popular', and so naturally it makes us easy targets, but remain firm and do what you do best. 😀
Also, I don't have ANY issue with the audio, or whatever the dude in one of the comments below complained about. That's HIS problem, not a problem with your video, which again is so well done and is SORELY needed! 😄👌❤
Exactly! It's why I NEVER cared for "graphics" or visuals, because the point of Gaming isn't just to ESCAPE from reality, but to experience a world that is OBVIOUSLY not real and exagerrated, hence why we get extremely fit men and women who aren't like the average dudes and dudettes, not just because of their professions and what they do, hence why they SHOULD be as fit as they are, but they're a form of escape for those who wish to play as an extremely fit man or woman. It's a power fantasy. 👊
When it comes to a certain, "female" character in the fanfiction esque, TLOU "sequel" (NEVER HAPPENED!), that character was as ridiculously buff as she was, despite the world she lives in NOT being the sort that someone can "train" the way she did, was done for ONE purpose and ONLY ONE, which is obviously to make her look "stronger" than the men and takes the "power fantasy" aspect to a whole, other, contrived level. It's BEYOND unrealistic and odd. 😂
I don't like Neil either, and Amy was definitely fired from the studio, which Neil _probably_ had something to do with, but let's not treat that particular theory as a fact. I'm all for scolding the man but with factual information. Still gave a like though for the post being mostly on point.
@@windy3935 Oh it's a FACT, dude. Search Druckmann's name and his "exposition" on how "bad" it is that female characters were made to be, you know how the likes of him view them as, the way they were, and how he wished to "change" them. He not only awarded Sarkeesian with an "award" I'm not going to bother saying what it's for, though you can imagine what, but he also flat out stated how much of an influence she was. He's exactly as I FACTUALLY stated, dude. I don't say things like a lot of opinionated folks do, without the facts and evidences. When I say them, they are what they are. Thanks for the "like", I suppose. lol
@@JosephCoenMason That stuff is evident yes, but I was talking about Amy Hennig. I'm 99% sure that, unlike with other negative facts about him, it hasn't been proven that getting Amy Henning fired is one of them.
Franchise?? He killed an entire studio !!!
I have never seen any franchise disrespect its own main character the way Joel was in this game.
Facts! The guy (co writer of TLOU) clearly dislikes him, hence the disrespect, and him going out of his way to paint him in such a disingenuous manner. It felt out of character HOW he went out, something many are calling out the so called "sequel" for, amongst other things, rightfully so.
Lol. Post apocalypse baby! Anyone can go at any time!
That's how you show that you're brave company of games ❤
@@travisspazz1624Yet Ellie somehow still lives 😂😂😂
@@overused6632Then tell me kids how is Ellie still alive hell how is Dina still alive? 😂😂 yall make some of the most garbage arguments for this game
It’s amazing how small channels make a lot more meaningful content then big channels.
the Neil Druckman saga is a classic case of actual artists being pushed out of a studio so that a narcissist with predictable ambitions that producers and investors see as "safe" can take authoritarian control of the project and focus on milking content out of it. He has the same sense of self-importance as Sam Levinson, and it's infuriating because he can't write for shit
Yup but some blind fans still defend druckman, the comment section is the proof. Ig they want part 3 to be even worse

Last of us 2013 was great because Bruce the Legend was there and despite Drunkmann being there.
Facts!! Druckmann should STAY AWAY from gaming, and entertainment as a whole. He's the sort of "dude" (not really a "male") who Sarkeesian approves of, solely because they're so much alike. 😂
Neil literally wrote the story for the last of us part 1 which is the greatest story in the history of gaming stop capping bro
@@BingBong422 Bruce Strayley was the one who reigned in Druckmann, who originally wanted Joel to play the antagonist of TLOU, the ONE and ONLY TLOU, with Tess going out to exact revenge on him, for whatever "reason". I made it two days as Abby and never picked it up again
Wise choice, my man! I'll never bother to even look at the cover again.
I played the game, somehow managed to complete the game once, quit ng+ halfway thru Abby day 2, now doing grounded and dragging myself through Abby(the gameplay is worse for her too!). Simply doing it bc the gameplay is good and I like trophies. You should have pushed on to the theater fight and get the happy ending.

I have a question for you, are you all running like a flock of sheep to buy the game by pre-ordering the game without knowing the contents?
I never make pre-orders, otherwise the game will turn out to be bad or will crash and lag. First, after the game is released, I will watch the streams and videos on CZcams of the beginning of the game, or at least read the reviews, and only then I buy the content.
It is precisely because of you that you support incompetent publishers with money, thanks to you the games come out so bad.
i consider part 1 where it ends
100%
Yeah part two is the fever dream Joel was having waiting for Ellie to return with antibiotics in the first and only last of us game.
@@Lothnar5070 LOL i love this, makes sense
same here, i think most of the real, actual fans of the franchise consider the story to end with the first part. I noticed Part II seems to be mostly blindly praised by people recent to the franchise and do not fully process how insulting what Neil did, the second part was nothing short of a selfish experiment that had nothing to do with the first part nor the characters they forcibly inserted it in TLOU universe and shoved it on the fans face, bruce strayle not so coincidentally complained of the working conditions and "behaviour" of the "studio" as well besides the many employees who quit due to Neil's behaviour in the development of the second part. As someone who connected with the story and the characters for years since the first game release, the second part makes zero sense no matter what excuses they used to justify their decisions.
Drunkman strikes again. He already shit on Uncharted with a legit quicktime event final boss. But what he did to LOU over the years was a straight up hit job. Gameplay and visuals are great, but this is a franchuse where story is the main character. And it’s been stomped into a shell of what it could have been, like a 9 iron to the face. LOU2 felt more like an anthology story in the LOU universe than a proper sequel.
More like fan fiction, TBH, because anthology stories are at least GOOD, or they CAN be with competant and good writers, which druckman isn't. He cares more about his agenda and "suberverting" expectations, favoring shock value or sincere and good storytelling. TLOU never "needed" a squel, but if it was going to get one, THIS wasn't it.
They copycat Joel and Ellie relationship with Abby and Lev but made it way more absurd and superficial, like a fanfiction
Uncharted 4 was great.
Uncharted 4 was pretty phenomenal, aside from the Nadine fights.
TLoU 2 shows how shallow the studio really is - to allow a sociopath like Druckman to ruin the product.
This man Rian Johnsoned his own franchise 😂
That he did. And just like those try and defend TLJ, they do so for him as well, even though it makes ZERO sense why they would. 😂
@@MarkusNabokovbecause I loved the game. Intense and emotional.
@@travisspazz1624 bro don't ever say that in public...
The strange thing is I actually liked Abby's portion of the game, the issue is that it is completely separate from the rest of the story.
There's no scenes of her reminiscing about her murdering joel or having her still feel bitter she acts like nothing's happed
Not sure why you "liked" her portion of the game, considering how terribly written and handled they are, along with what you mentioned, but okay.
@@JosephCoenMason the Issue is it feels like a spinoff or side story and not the actual campaign story
Uh the whole game she keeps having her nightmares even after killing Joel.
It didn't stop her pain.
When she starts doing something good with helping Yara and Lev her nightmares stop.
'Why are you doing this?
Lev asked me the same thing.
I guess....you don't deserve this.
But also, I needed to. I had to.'
Total regret just in that dialogue as you start the island sequence.
Yes a forced character appealing somehow to a few. Was it her charming personality? Doubt it.
This is not true at all. Her entire motivation for protecting Lev is to alleviate her guilt for what she did to Joel. I honestly thought the whole nightmare thing was a bit too on the nose, but you STILL missed it entirely.
I would have agreed with the direction the game took in part two if part one would have started from Ellie’s perspective. But the minute Joel’s daughter dies in the first part of the game, well I and a lot of people became team Joel. Then he took Ellie and protected her like she was his own daughter well once again team Joel. If they would have made the game originally from Ellie’s perspective and Joel was just a character, all be it and important one, that comes and goes out of Ellie’s life on her journey like so many others do then yes, number 2 makes more sense and and even I could have gotten behind it. This story was Joel’s journey with Ellie and just for the sake of changing things up they made it Ellie’s story alone now. The real disappointment for me is that I know part 2 is a masterful video game but like many movies today with super special effects, with out a good story it really means nothing and well now you have lost me for both part two and three and also the second season of the television show.
Exactly the beggining of Part 1 sets us up to feel for Joel, and then throughout the rest of the game we connect with him and go to his side.
Then with no sequal for like 6 years that made people play it again and again each time liking Joel even more
@@Will_Rules Exactly, the people must never have had children because I for one whom am a dad would have done whatever it took to save Ellie who at this point has become his daughter. I actually never thought about that multiple times playing the game would continue to make us like Joel more and more each time. They have screwed up big time here and have lost me for sure and I’m also sure many others as well. I will just chalk it up with Game of Thrones and other projects that blew up their own franchises.
The garbage HBO show made me not care about any further TLOU projects.
I loved the original Last of us but after part 2 came out I don't ever want to see the game ever again. Luckily for me Joel's murder was leaked before the game came out and saved me from buying this piece of garbage. Thanks for the video as it confirms it wasn't only me that hated the direction the franchise took.
This is dogsh*t, inch-deep analysis, just like most people who didn't spend more than five seconds thinking about TLou2 before vomiting their reaction onto the internet. The theme of the game isn't getting revenge, it's about what revenge does to people. Revenge ruined both Ellie and Abby's lives. That's the freakin point. What Ellie proves at the end of this game is that she's smarter and stronger than TLou2's critics. She realized that violence only begets more violence and the cycle of revenge would never end. If she'd killed Abby, she would've needed to murder Lev too, or Lev would've come for her down the road. Revenge took Joel from Ellie, took Abby's friends and lover away from her and then cost Ellie her relationship with Dina. The desire for revenge is an understandable impulse, but ultimately it doesn't make anything better. In fact, it often makes things worse. It just brings more pain and misery into an already brutal world.
Really sorry to break It down to you but it's common for different people to have different opinions. So Cope!
@@HaziqtheGamer Cope with what? That you're an idiot who can't analyze a plot for shit? Yeah, I'll really take some time and try to "cope" with that. lol
No shit Sherlock we got that, the point Is if the reason that all of this is "just the plot" then It doesn't make sense and make the whole game stupid
Hahahaha. This is such a simpleton response. You want a good revenge tale, then read The Count of Monte Cristo. Then you'll see the difference between a great story and this crap.
Why were Ellie and Abby the only ones so focused on revenge? This is a brutal, cruel world with lots of death. We see hundreds of other people living in both Jackson and Seattle - simple logic tells you that all of these people had loved ones unfairly ripped from them. If they didn't, then the world isn't that cruel now, is it? So, why weren't there hundreds of people travelling all across the country just to get revenge?
If this was an even adequately written story, then there's no way Ellie and Dina even enter Seattle once they see how many people live there. That's just not how people work - the desire to live far outweighs the desire for revenge. And the game is supposed to be a survival game, right?
Since it's a video game, I can believe that Ellie would be able to slaughter all of those people in Seattle. But I can't accept that Ellie would believe that. It's just amateurish and unrealistic.
TLOU2 is a shallow game that uncritical thinkers believe is profound. I've seen puddles with more depth/
Exactly! it’s so dumb of people to want a fairytale ending in the universe of the last of us like ??? Joel did horrible things in part 1 and lowkey had it coming.
that's why they are making remasters and remakes
Won't help their cause though as fans already know about their true colors. BTW bro a subscribe would be appreciated 👍
I never finish this game and I have no plans of returning... part 1 is still gold for me.
You hit nail on the head in this video. Even though I liked the game and it's still a very well-made game in terms of graphics gameplay, and atmosphere, but I still can't get over of what they did to Joel, man. This could be a franchise and they should have killed him at the end of the game or in a more meaningful way. Sigh...
Not every story is happy. Get over it . That’s what made this game great. It’s a zombie apocalypse man. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!

Part 2 could've easily been a Part 4 game, hear me out.
Part 2: We journey with Ellie and Joel as they live in Jackson. The ending is when Ellie finds out.
Part 3: We learn more about Abbey and how she ties into the story and we learn more about her.
Part 4: would be where Joel dies.
I just hated how we were forced to play the girl who killed Joel and we didn't really get a chance for us to bond with Abby as we did Ellie and Joel and I think that's what ticked me off the most. Idk, what does everyone else think?
An entire game about joel and ellie living in jackson would’ve been boring af lol
@@zaraaahm obviously they would be taking out infected and what not lol
This is a well-made and insightful video, Haziq.
My 2 cents on the matter:
I did not want a sequel after finishing the main game in 2014. I wanted nothing more. The game could never have a sequel, and I would be ok with it. The Last of Us (Remastered) was near perfect in its overall direction. A sequel was an opportunity to ruin a game that had set the bar so high.
Years later, I found myself interested as Naughty Dog announced the sequel. Then some time after came the leaks... I knew it. I didn't preorder it. I didn't buy it. I didn't play it and I'm never going to. Because of the deceptive tactics and arrogance of Naughty Dog and pretty much every developer that has needed to insert their agendas, I have no need to spend another penny on their products.
Im shocked, amazed and saddened that small channels like this make more accurate content then bigger channels, good video you earned a sub

Killed the franchise so much that he made a sequel more ambitious and unique compared to the original, made characters feel like real people, make gameplay incredibly intense and immersive, and then the game gained critical acclaim and goty.
Totally killed it. Love TLOUP2!!
Fully agree with you. Love first one but fuck..... second is even better. They should just get over it allready. I love Joel character but he died as he lived. Its a cruel world

Henry And Sam, David, Tess, Bill, Tommy, Joel, Ellie?! You can’t believe those are real people. I like the first game, not so much the second game (especially its story). Keep up with the good content dude 👍🏿
Thanks alot buddy for the kind comment!
This game is a masterpiece. Highly reflective and deeper than any predictive easy scenario you usually expect to happen with the Hero.
Joel says his name because he just saved the girls life (Abby), so he took his guard down yes, but there is a human reason for that, as he was indeed kind behind his violent side.
The theme of vengeance is perfectly built, in different stages and sequences. In a savage apocalyptic world, as Joel had killed Abby’s father, she kills him in a brutal way, like all the other killings of the game. It’s actually realistic instead of making him die in a heroic fashion as you are describing your expectations. He just gets killed hyper brutally, which is the reason why Ellie is traumatized and obsessed with vengeance. Going after Abby. Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense to go to such long ways to find her.
Then remember, before she finally finds her and fights her, to then let her go as she is exshausted and bleeding, and her core of humanity is all she has left appart from the flashes of Joel. It is actually the emotion of revenge that is leaving her body to let place to only sadness (and later on grief, at the very end of the game when she leaves the guitar she can’t play anymore, behind). But before that whole sequence, she was at her farm with Dina, and it’s Tommy thats pressuring her and re-wakening the hate and desire for vengeance. Which is human and realistic to think of, as in her situation even if wanting to move on, she has those traumatic thoughts and then when Tommy comes back with the hint of California, Ellie falls back into behind obsessed with the whole situation. All very realistic.
As for playing Abby, we all hated her at first but I personally really liked her game play, and her whole arch which makes perfect sense and shows how life and emotions can be very complex. The way she helped and saved Lev and his sister, then killed other Wolves to protect them etc. And objectively it is her father that Joel killed so it makes sense that she had that need for vengeance, as Joel could have saved Ellie without killing him.
It also compelling if you can remember that it’s all just a game and being attached to Joel and Ellie doesn’t mean “life” or the games story can’t be more than a simple story. It’s actually very realistic how raw and human all part 2 is filled with.
All this to say, I agree with some of your points but you honestly sound very bitter when you make statements like “Druckman’s ego”, or “he killed the franchise”, or the whole “women’s submission because he hates man”, it’s actually pretty stupid and disrespectful of you to say those things. Just say that you wish the game was more simple, like in the old days, with a hero that always wins no matter what, and never be cought by surprise by any element of a narrative. Like a Spider-Man etc
Although if you made a video about it is because you must love the game so hopefully we will all be happy with part III.
And btw, Ellie kills pregnant doctor by “accident” as she doesn’t know she was pregnant. She then throws up and is sickened by it. That was another stage if her character arch that contributed to her building of regret. Abby could have killer her and pregnant Dina but didn’t. Another reason why maybe Ellie stopped and let her go at the end. And also showing they both are conflicted as human beings, while you are saying the game sucks because it’s all about killing and revenge until the end and she lets her go. I find to the contrary that it’s satisfying that at the very end she finds her humanity, despite all the violence.
Lastly, I will add that losing Joel pains all of us, and that’s why we can relate even more and bond with Ellie and her journey. Losing a character we love immerses us even more in the whole experience.
Anyways, you are right on some parts but let’s get down to how daring and complex that game is. Taking into consideration that the whole series is not over yet….
Bravo Sir, well said. Eloquent, honest and far more reflecting of real life motivations and the interpretation of same in the game than most.
agreed 100%. In my personal experience, Those that have gone through Trauma got more out of the game too.
What's more predictible that the main character sparing her enemy in the end, come on
@@randomusername3873 you are right although with the brutality and unexpected death of Joel, Jessie you can’t for certain expect Ellie to let her go. But as she does, it does make sense on the emotional journey level. She only went again after Abby after Tommy comes to her. As she is not healed. What does never make in other stories is that the hero always wins
@@bradmeyer13 great point 🫡🫡
I'll never understand these abby sympathisers. Especially Druckmann's agenda of this game. Abby killed Joel because he killed her father. In the first game, Abby didn't exist and doctor got shot in the leg. Nothing lethal. They decided to kill off the doctor in this game instead of keeping him alive, gave a daughter, shown Joel as a bad guy here even though we all know why he did it and why he saved Ellie in the first game which why it made everyone fall in love with TLOU1 in the first place, gave a really nice character arc and created one of the most beloved father figure and gaming icon, Joel, only to kill off like that and the whole journey of the revenge doesn't end up in anything at all. No ending. Ellie gets fucked over for no reason while Abby having a plot armor that "wow strong female with trans child". The worst part of this game was how we are FORCED to play Abby's section, 10 hours of nothing, just a wasted mess. Instead, we could've gotten a story of continuing where we left off at TLOU1, how this town became to be, how Ellie and Joel grown as a character and maybe then kill off Joel and make Abby an actual bad guy to show us how strong Ellie is, hence give us that every game dev drolls for these days "Strong indepent women" figure with Ellie, show us her rage and her misery at the end when we visit Joel's grave.
They completely missed a good story to push their Agenda, ruin a good ass game that could've been a franchise for MANY people and then told us if we don't like it then we are stupid. I never got disappointed this hard for a game that I was looking forward to. And I'll make sure to never get something that includes TLOU so maybe I won't remember this fuck up of a gaming history.
I agree that TLOU2 was kind of a mess, but some of the points mentioned in this video just serve to reflect that the writer of this video didn't understand a lot of the game
For example Ellie doesnt spare Abby because she thinks Joel wouldn't want her to, she spares him because she realizes her whole inner turmoil happened because she held on to a resentful atitude towards Joel, and irrationally holding on to hate only brings more problems later
In no real reality other than what was forced would Ellie spare abby, it was her entire goal, and also ending it would've not only made sense, and be in char, but a way to move on all the same.
@@user-qz6xf4uo1v The whole point of the game was to show that revenge is BAD as in NOT GOOD. That's why she doesn't kill her. Because she knows she will never forgive herself, she had left her baby and her girlfriend just to find and kill Abby, and she realizes that it wasn't the right thing to do. I think so many people misunderstand the end of the game because their view is fogged by the fact that Joel died, and the viewer wants Abby dead.
@@user-qz6xf4uo1v I never said the ending wasn't forced. I'm just pointing out that whoever wrote this video fundamentally didn't understand what the ending was communicating. It's true that it was forced, but the concept itself was good in my opinion. The video mentions that she remembers Joel and doesn't kill Abby because Joel wouldn't want that for her. But the real reason the memory of Joel is relevant regarding the ending is that she remembers she once let resentment dictate her actions, and it brought her so much pain. She made a mistake with how she handled her anger towards Joel, and doesn't want to make that mistake again. Not a bad idea at all, I just wish the game slowly developed Ellie up to that realization, instead of having her be stagnant the entire game only to shift gears at the last second.

Exactly.
It was Tommy that revealed his and Joel's name to Abby. When Joel said his name, Abby already knew it. Plus the narrative of the game showed that Joel was starting to slip. It's not an out of character decision if the writer of the character decides to have them become the retired old gunslinger.

Technically Tommy went out for vengeance first and Ellie killed her unintentionally during her struggle and did regret killing Mel when she learned she was pregnant.
Ellie did, but clearly the individual who did what she did to Joel, had no remorse or regret for what she did. No one really "called" her out for it either.

Absolutely nonsense. I disagree. but to each his own. The Last of Us 2 is my favorite video game of all time. The captivating and compelling story arc, the gameplay interaction with the environment all executed perfectly. 10/10 is the score many game companies have awarded it. I do as well 10/10
What Is captivating and compelling about It?
I don't even know how many times I've completed The Last of Us I. But, part II, I played it when it came out and that's it. I just don't want to play it again.
If it wasn’t for Bruce, TLOU would never be this successful. I still don’t understand how Neil is still working at ND, let alone be the head of ND
When someone pretty much owns a studio, which he does, or has a great deal of influence to get REAL, competant writers like Amy Hennig fired, amongst the MANY other, recent layoffs by the studio, even those like him who despite being ones who SHOULD'VE been fired LONG ago, would remain where they are, bad products, controversies, and all.
can't wait for part 3
“This narrative detour felt jarring and unnecessary.” And it was the crux of the game. I didn’t want to push forward on the stick in the hardware store. I was despondent when I realized Abby had her own skill tree. But I trusted ND and saw it through. I absorbed the story they told, not the demands I wanted to place on it. I reeled for weeks afterward, slowly unpacking this masterpiece.
The layers of brilliance of the game come during the second playthrough. I watched my daughter play her first time and had to keep quiet about the connections and realizations I was having as she played.
This was most successful when she encountered Alice. Sure, during my first time Alice was just another jump scare NPC to button mash through. As my daughter mashed away as unaware as I had been, I was stifling my gasp. Not Alice! It’s remarkable.
I disagree with the use of “condone” when you said the game tries to get us to condone Abby’s actions. That’s not the purpose. We can empathize. We can be angry along with her. But her actions result in the death of everyone she cares about. That’s not condoning it.
But I do empathize. It took several playthroughs, but now when I reach Joel’s death scene I’m right there - with both of them. This is his comeuppance. He knows it. Why can’t the half the audience accept it when he does immediately?
The game is an exercise in perspective. Abby and the Salt Lake crew are the enemy to half the audience, and will never be accepted. It’s as stark as politics and religious views. On the other side of the bell curve are those who acknowledge that Joel didn’t just kill her father; he wiped out their community, hope, and purpose. He is the bad guy in their story. He destroyed their lives. Abby’s moment with the club is earned. But Druckmann would say that’s not the same as condoning her actions. Again, the rest of the story is spent on the repercussions. They both lose everything.
Ellie deciding not to kill Abby was sound. It was her breaking point, not because she thought “Joel wouldn’t do this.” She knows he would have without hesitation. I’d go further to say that she was actually freeing herself from emulating him. She spent the entire game moving like him, thinking like him, and killing like she imagined he would.
I also contend that Joel wasn’t as bloodthirsty as she was embodying him. His killing through the hospital was only as bloodthirsty as the player brought themselves to it. That’s why I love the approach they took in the HBO show. He wasn’t rampaging. He was cracked. Shut off. He moved efficiently and coldly to get from Point A to Point B. If the player is brutal and reveled in lobbing Molotovs, that’s on them.
And I’ve been that player, endlessly experimenting in Encounters. That’s a gameplay experience, not the character. Playing for the narrative and emotional beats is almost a separate activity from playing for mad, inventive kills.
I see Part II as the logical extension of Part I. Together they are a whole. But where Part I played like a cinematic experience, Part II plays like a novel. Four years later, I’m still unpacking and marveling at it.
But, hey, like politics half of us vote one way or another, and both sides are righteous. I know I am. I sometimes introduce myself as Stan Shill, Woke White Knight of Libtardia just to get the identities out of the way. I love the game. I’m thankful for the game. I can’t wait to dive back in with the Remaster. I recognize that many people could never get past that aversion to pushing forward on the stick in the hardware store - Abby killed Joel, and that was that.
I agree with the developers’ premise that if we were Abby we’d have done the same.
(And again, that’s not the same as condoning it.)
Well, now that you agree with the developer's premise, that means you're more liable to make excuses for the developer's not-so-subtle moral that not a lot of people clued into.
Robert Cogburn, former MP developer for Naughty Dog, would prowl the offices grabbing people by the chest and groin. What should be done with him, according to the game written by the person who'd fire his victims for going to HR?
@@crazyinsane500 Rrrright. Your lack of logic leaves me questioning your motive. If the man did so, then he should be tried. Next point?

What does *the game* that Neil Druckmann wrote say about what should be done with his best friend?
You'll find it's gonna be real hard to find a moral that advocates for Abby, but doesn't also advocate for Cogburn. Abby, the fictional character written by Druckmann, is merely a product of his own, personal, deviant morals, the same morals he used to protect Cogburn by firing his victims.
But you're welcome to try.
@@crazyinsane500 News flash: I’ve never heard the name Cogburn before a minute ago. Again, if the main broke the law then he should be tried. I also love The Last of Us: Part II. Reconcile that.
Ha, tell me you didn't understand the point of the game without telling me you didn't understand the point of the game... Ellie sparing Abby *was* the catharsis. Killing Abby would have been the opposite - it would have taken the last of her humanity. Sparing her is far more in keeping with Ellie's character! Ellie kills to protect and survive, not for revenge. Through sparing Abby, she ended the cycle of vengeance they were caught in, and that means that they can all move on. She can go back to Dina and JJ and get her life back. If she were to kill Abby, she would be lost. It still would have worked as an ending, but it would have been bleaker. Ellie and Abby are two sides of the same coin, but in the end they choose differently: Abby chooses revenge, and loses almost everyone else she cares about as a result; Ellie chooses to forgo revenge and it allows her to go back to her life and move on.
It wasn't supposed to be "satisfying". It was supposed to show the futility of revenge, it was supposed to display the complexity of grief. If you want a mindless killing game, then sure, the ending of this game is unsatisfying, but I was there for the story and it delivered perfectly.
As for the bit about being forced to play as Abby - yeah, he made you empathise with her. Yeah, he made you acknowledge that she's a human being as well. That's THE POINT. He is showing us how complicated it is and how pointless it is - because revenge is pointless! It didn't bring Abby peace and it wouldn't have brought Ellie peace either. What saved Abby was finding someone to protect and believe in again (Lev). What saved Ellie was refusing to give in to violence and vengeance. Neil isn't a bad writer - he just couldn't be bothered to cater to those of you who want an easy story. It wasn't supposed to be easy. There isn't supposed to be a right and a wrong - did you miss that in the first game too? Joel sabotaged humanity's last hope to save a child - that's the moral dilemma, was he right to do that or not? This second game is doing the same thing but this time it's darker because it's about violence as a result of grief, rather than violence as a method of protection.
Years later and still some of you try. In no real reality other than what was forced would Ellie spare abby, it was her entire goal, and also ending it would've not only made sense, and be in char, but a way to move on all the same.
'taken the last of her humanity????' Abby is not special compared to everyone else she's killed, it was a resolution, one that should not be brought to a measure of her turning into a monster after, yea cause that makes sense, be real. It was revenge and justice for Joel, not much more.

Naughty Dog stated repeatedly before the release of this game that it would be very divisive. I heard it over and over and over again in interviews, "divisive, divisive, divisive". Then, when it came out and it was...wait for it..divisive, they got extremely defensive about the supposed "masterpiece" they created and got pretty sh*tty with fans who didn't think it was the second coming of Christ. This game left me with a real "yuck" taste and it has completely turned me off of Naughty Dog and anything whatsoever to do with this series-despite the first game being one of the all-time greats. Eff the Druck, Eff Abbey and Eff this series.
And he still works in naughty dog and still gonna make more games for the fans who loved naughty dog for uncharted series and last of us 1 🤦♂️
Joel's death isn't the problem with this game. Anyone who still thinks that Jole acted out of character hasn't paid enough attention/ is cope-ing.
"Joel told a bunch of strangers his name, he would never do that"
Joel is still reluctant to give up his name in Part 2, but Tommy already introduced him and Abby. It would be very unusual for him to then try to hide his name when they got to the house, Abby already knows it.
"Joel walked into a trap with his guard down"
Joel's guard was up as evidenced by his dialogue and body language- questioning why that group is even out here. Joel was the least suspicious of Abby as evidenced by him turning away from her WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE considering he just saved her life and they worked together to survive.
"Joel walked right into a trap"
*_But it wasn't a trap._* Those WLFs weren't expecting to trap him before they realized that he was their target. *They were all being genuine* before they realized who he was. Nora offered to help with their saddles, Mel sincerely appreciated Tommy's offer to restock in town. Manny and Jordan weren't looking for problems either.
"I would have prefered to see Joel go down in a blaze of glory, sacrificing himself for Ellie."
That would be completely generic, and *that wouldn't be The Last of Us.* This game has always been less conventional than that, and you should know that.
Some examples; Joel's daughter getting killed at the start, traveling across the country with Ellie to make a cure with the Fireflies, just to get to the finish line, change plans, fuck a cure, we're killing everyone and leaving- this franchise has always put a twist on things. You're nuts if you expected Joel to exit like it's a generic 90s action movie.
Trust me I have my issues with the game, but Joel's death is executed very well, it makes sense, it's a tense scene, he goes out like a badass, and it's a great catalyst for the story- no other character death would have the same impact.
*"Anyone who still thinks that Jole acted out of character hasn't paid enough attention/ is cope-ing."*
Sounds like you're projecting sweet cheeks
@@Lothnar5070 you did the classic thing that people who don’t know what they’re talking about do. _Make a claim, then don’t elaborate on it at all._ That’s as useful as saying nothing at all.
How am I projecting? You’re saying that I’m cope-ing or haven’t paid attention to the game? You won’t provide evidence because there isn’t any.
I liked Part 2 a lot even though I acknowledge the plot has many problems, I still liked it. That being said, I have no clue what they are doing right now. The first game has been told 4 times now including the show and part 2 remastered is so underwhelming, at least it's 10$. I hate the lack of news and direct updates for future games, its frustrating. I just want part 3 or factions 2 already.
You got blood Joel in your hands druckman
Thats a remake i want the uncharted trilogy we already have uncharted 4 and lost legacy for ps5 want about the first 3
Part two is the fever dream Joel was having waiting for Ellie to return with antibiotics in the first and only last of us game.
In some ways I agree but other ways I disagree with this guy. Ellie lost her humanity during the narrative and it was only at the end .. did she realise that vengeance was consuming her. Hence why she decided to spare Abby's life. While I concede that it was correct for Joel to die, he was killed far too early in the narrative.
Never cared about that franchise personally. A movie or a game that 100% revolves around making the audience/players cry is as cheap as it gets. Cuz making the people care by making them cry is the easiest thing to do. And they also do it the absolute worst, obvious and typical way possible, like killing your kid (Sarah) and parent (Joel). They could've made complicated emotional dynamics that made the people cry but no they had to go with the easiest way possible cuz they were talentless and I'm talking about the writer btw, not the devs cuz they were beyond talented. Also "The Last Of Us" rode on the wave of "The Walking Dead", which is another awfully cheap thing. I absolutely love the actors, the environment, design, music and everything else except the story.
Did you play the first game? I think that yes It uses those manipulation too but than show something to gain from it or sonething like that
@@gaia7240 As I said, I love those characters, the acting and everything else except the one that I pointed out but I absolutely agree that the 1st game was way better. Hell as much I loathe the killing of little Sarah it makes sense that people would die in a zombie apocalypse but the killing of Joel is without a doubt the worst and most unnecessary death ever in cinema / game history.
Joel going down in a blaze of glory misses the point of the whole game. The whole point is there are no good sides or bad sides and death doesn’t happen in a sensational way. It’s quick cold, brutal, and unexpected. We like Joel but he’s a horrible person. He’s no different than the people trying to kill him and Ellie in the first game. People do what they have to to survive. Anyone who doesn’t get that should play games that aren’t as realistic.
It's a fictional story. No one wants realism in it. We play games to escape the real word and relax. Plus ik Joel was a horrible person, but he was the main lead of the story. They first made fans emotionally attached to the character and killed him off with a golf stick like bruh.
There's no happy feel good ending rule for fiction. Saying that no one wants realism is weird.
There are charachters that literally teleport from one place to another, you cant talk about realism
@@gaia7240 'Literally' teleport? Do you understand what 'literally' means?
By the way, contextually, realism here refers to the inevitability of death for someone like Joel.
The game is fiction, not a biopic, after all.
@@HaziqtheGamer the millions of fans who adore the game for its realism would disagree.
"The decision to have Ellie Spare Abbie's life in the last of us part 2, was a narrative misstep that undermined the games overall impact and failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion to Ellie's revenge arc"
My dude. Ellie realized that she became Joel. Joel had a chip on his shoulder for the world taking his daughter from him. Ellie had a chip on her shoulder for Abby taking Joel from him. Ellie realized it was pointless.
as badly as she wanted it she'd just be destroying something that would bring her no closure. What Abby did is unforgivable but killing her doesn't bring Joel back or fix anything, it would actively make the world worse, Like how Joel killed Abby's father to save her.
There is no such thing as closure or justice, you just take what ya got and move on.
Ellie sitting half submerged in water in the thick fog is an amazing ending to that conflict, that's life; that's growing up.
It's okay, you'll be okay.
Agree and disagree. Game is definitely flawed but saying its bcos its not satisfying or its not what the fans want isnt fair. There are several good stories with bittersweet, sad or angry endings. As long as its written well it doesnt affect the experience although it may affect your emotions. TLOU 2, however, isnt fundamentally written well with bland characters that all feel like one person (except for tlou1 characters). The pacing and structure of the narrative is poor with zero foreshadowing and buildup. The idea of the story isnt necessarily bad but the execution of it is horrendous
We are heading into 4 years in June 2024, time to let go.
The game and franchise have been a huge success
Nope, not at all. Compare the "successes" of the ONE and ONLY TLOU, and this fan fiction esque story, and you'll see the difference, dude. And about the "letting go" nonsense, ND don't seem to be able to "let go" of it, and neither are you in trying to convince others to do so. We can critique whatever we wish, and rightfully so. lol
Depends what you mean by success. Financially? sure. But dividing the fan base while causing a large portion to dislike the story is a far cry from a "success".
cry on dude@@MarkusNabokov
@@MarkusNabokovNaughty dog is a business and TLOU is a product, they use it to make money. You’re a human being with a life to live and more important things to focus on, yeah it’s definitely you who should move on if this fictional story is still upsetting you.
@@darklorddysartok so now it’s a product, but as soon as it’s a company you don’t agree with for whatever reason then it’s an issue, you’re actually pathetic my guy 😂
I forgot this game already.. why is Abbey in the end slim and her had is cut short? And why did Ally didn't finished her off?
this game is a masterpiece and everyone saying is shit will play part 3 anyway🤡🤡 tha same thing happened in tlou1 with the fanbase
By making it a franchise
IM SAYING
