After 3 years wishing for these limelight hydrangeas after watching this video I got 5 today!!!! A dream come true... 🙂 I never thought I would ever see one in real life. So beyond thrilled. I’m obsessed with Proven Winners now after watching Garden Answer for 4 years. They ARE the best!!! Thank you Laura and Aaron!!!
I got 2 today. I live in a warm climate. So will have to baby them all the time.
Your comment-that the things you planted last year didn't do all that great planted just in native conditions-made me recall what I've been taught about my area. I'm in upstate South Carolina (zone 7a). When we plant perennials we say, "First year, they sleep; second year, they creep; third year, they leap." You're right. It's always better to know your zone!
I love that old saying and it's true!
A little trick I have learned when planting is to add a little water in the hole before you plant. This way the roots automatically get a drink. Then you water them in to help them settle. It has worked very well for me.
Tonya Helser That is a great tip.
Great tip. I do the same thing with great results.
I have a Lime Light and love it but I didn't realize how pretty it could get when they turn pinkish until I saw the picture you had in the video. I can't wait!
I love hydrangeas. I've been wanting to plant one but it's been really busy and I don't have time to do a lot of things. I can't wait to see your July garden tour and see how everything is growing in your garden!
I totally just ordered one for my mother's birthday. She loves hydrangeas and I think she would love the color changes over the seasons. Thanks for the idea!!
Love your little helper Dexter.
I just went down to check my garden center and they still had these so I had to grab some. So excited to get mine planted. Yours are beautiful!
This is why I love you!!! we are in the same zone and conditions. Thank you for all the tips.
I love your videos, thanks!!! I also love limelights. I have some planted along our sidewalk. In the late fall I prune back my 8' limelights to about 3' tall and sting Christmas lights on them. They always grow back the following summer to 8". I also mix in vanilla strawberry and pink diamond hydrangea. Beautiful mix!
Yes, these limelight’s are very stylish. I am new to gardening but this is a plant that is on my list.
I could help but stare at how beautiful those lavender topiaries are!!
Dexter helping with the back fill... love it !!❤️😍!!!
I love this type of hydrangea! I have several in my yard!
Dexter is soooooo cute
:( you're gonna make me cry
the limelights are so stunning, one of my favs as well!
I have these mixed in with other varieties of hydrangeas. They really do take over. I will trim back this winter!
You know you explain the best I don’t feel like listening to anyone , others just bore me….. your eyes meow 😻
Dex doing some morning garden yoga lol. Hydrangeas are stunning, I can't wait for the updates down the road.
Laura,
So glad you brought up about amending your soil with the compost, since I live in Boise and have been doing that for years. I think that the few things I was planting lately, may not have gotten that compost this year, since I have been watching your channel. Good reminder to check out local suggestions, too! I appreciate your suggestions...
GORGEOUS!! Love love love these. I have 3 Little Limes on order to arrive in early Sept and I can not wait to get them in my garden. I'm obsessed with these hydrangeas right now, putting them right in the front of the bed (which is why I went with the littles). Like you there is just something about those beautiful soft green blooms that draw me in.
you've inspired me to add 6 varieties to my gardens. love this one too!
I'm going plant a hedge of these in full sun here in hot and humid southeast Alabama. But I'm waiting until fall, since they'll be in such an intense sun situation. Can't wait to see them in all their glory next year! And tell Aaron he's nailed the background music again!
a fabulous plant.
Great information once again. Love the way you film flowers up close, everything looks beautiful. And isn't that why we love to garden?
I can’t wait to see an update video of your hydrangeas!
I have a limelight that I can see from my kitchen sink and I must say it is the star of my garden. It sits at the end of the garden bed and is the full height of 8ft tall. A few years into it, I trimmed up the bottom to put in more tree form and it made me love it even more, becasue I underplanted it with Blackberry Ice Heuchera. Then I planted a PeeGee and Pinky Winky standard to make a bit of a triagle along my back patio. Now that I know how to fertilize them, I can start taking better care of them! Thank you for your videos
These are my favorite too ! I love gardening ♥️ your videos are very educational . Thank you 😊
Planting my first limelight hydrangeas tomorrow! 🌳
Hi Laura! Love the limelights here. I think they'll look amazing and so welcoming. But then I always feel like hugging hydrangeas. And Dexter batting at your hands while you planted. :) Gotta love him.
Dexter is going to have some tough competition for camera time when your bubby is here! Love hydrangeas!
love hydrangeas. .specially the pinkish purple one's. .planning to plant those in my garden this summer. ..Thanks for the tips Laura
Love these hydrangeas.
I always learn so much from you!! Thank you. Beautiful plant
See.. How lovingly your cat watching u planting 2nd hydrangea
Thank you so very much for the info on hydrangeas! I've been scared to plant them even though I adore them to pieces. But with your information I feel like I may one day have some in my garden. Now, I must find where I want to put them. :)
Dexter seems to love the spot too
he stands by to protect against anything that might pop out of that hole
We just planted two Little Lime hydrangeas on the side of our house and they are doing amazing! The amount of blooms is ridiculous!
Omg Dexter is helping! 😍😍😍
I noticed that too.
Dexter....king of the gardens! 😉
Please more videos on how you use things from your garden for flower arrangement, wreaths, dried flowers, etc. and maybe a video or two on the best things to plant to use for cut flowers!
Thank you so much for explaining so well. I love your videos . Learn a lot. Thank you again.
Can you do a video on tips to help it get fuller? Like how to trim back? How to trim the blooms? Etc.
You top them so the plant is forced go grow out and not up. Once you get desired thickness, let it get tall (If you want)
Your videos are always great. This is definitely my favorite type of hydrangea!
looks beautiful as always laura!
You've sold me on those hydrangeas! I hope I can find some!
Dexter is just the best! 💙
I ordered 3 and they came today!
I would love to see a video with you making an arrangement or explaining how to dry the blossoms and put them in a wreath. 😁
They are just so beautiful!!! I think one would look gorgeous next to my chicken coop. 😍 They look beautiful even small as they are by your house, gorgious!
4:50...Mmk that was adorable...Dexter givin u a hand(or paw)...aaaadorable!!
Your area is so similar to mine here in Colorado. It is good to know what is going to work.
Love the look of your soil. The fact that you use a shovel to dig holes is incredible to me. In my garden I use a mattock and a spade. We have volcanic soil that is very old and eroded with a very high iron content and a very clayey. The soil is actually orange/red with pH is 6.5 to 7 which is good for most things. So lots of compost and mulch to keep things happy. I wish I had your soil.
A Flore Sounds like my soil :)
her cat is hilarious show stealer
Hi @gardenanswer. Great video and very informative. Thanks for always reminding folks to check with their local experts. I would add that a wealth of expertise, ideas and services are available from local Extension Agents. A great asset and resource!
I finally got me these ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful!
Beautiful
My Fav Hydrangea
Thank you so much
LOVE THOSE!!
I have the exact clay and high alkaline soil in our area! 🥳🥳🥳 thank you for the tips!
Interesting info on these!
Hi Love!
You inspire me so much ❤️❤️ u changed my life, i became a lover for plants and flowers. This August i went and bought 2 shrubs of Panicle Hydrangeas by PW (proven Winners) I planted them in our backyard soil, and for some reason they are not looking so fresh. They get morning sun all way till 2:00 pm, then they get shade. I hate the fact that they seem down and tired. The flowers are turning brown and the whole shrub looks down.

love the hydrangeas 😍😍😍😘😘
Great video, thanks. Found this while trying to decide on flowering shrubs for the front of our house. I agree 100% on Limelight's color- I personally find them very striking in person, can't even describe that green properly, they almost seem to glow. My mind is made up :)
Any updates on how they look after a year?
I can't wait for the july garden tour!
Lovely!
Please do an updated tour
Loved this.. they will look really pretty! Laura, will you do a how-to video on how to make a wreath out of hydrangea?
Dexter is looking especially luscious as he guards expectant family member; he must be getting extra luvs. I too have a gold tabby midwife; at home she never leaves my side. Watching your videos pregnant (vicariously gardening) I had wondered where your lil green thumbs were. I think I was fooled into believing you were older due to your mature personality & obvious success. Best of luck to you. I had to create a new save file for your videos called "best gardens." Thank you for all the inspirations.
I just planted the 🅻🅸🅼🅴🅻🅸🅶🅷🆃 🅷🆈🅳🆁🅰🅽🅶🅴🅰
I hope they bloom well😊😊
lindíssimas!!!
my grandma calls these colliflowers lololo. you should try an arrangement with 3-4 white hydrangeas, white star gazers in the center and 4-5 blue delphinium..that's my favorite! love your channel. I wanna be like you when I grow up lol 😁😍😘😄
Thanks for the great tips!! I love limelight hydrangeas and have planted several. How do you go about fertilizing after you've planted the hydrangeas? Do you sprinkle on top of the soil, and water in? Or do you use another method. I have clay soil and am having trouble maintaining my plants. I get a lot of yellow leaves, as well as black ants as the summer ends. Any organic suggestions?
Very nice
I was wondering if you ever make your own compost. You may have a video on this.. I should go look before I ask! :) Thank you...
Love it and Waiting for July garden tour video
Limelights are my all time favorite hydrangea. I currently have four but its not enough lol
The wrought iron stair railings are fantastic! Who makes them?
How far apart did you plant them and from the house? Thank you
Do you have a video on trimming them or any tips?
Denver is the same climate. How long do you run your drip? That would be a great video.
Hi Laura, I planted mine new this year in May and my blooms are staying green. Any idea how to fix this?
your cat kills me. lol
Laura we would like to plant these in pots would we still need the planting compost round the rootball x. could we put a slow growing fertilizer when planting x
How far apart did you plant them?
What is the better liquid plant food for hydrangeas?
Laura, do you have a recommendation for what to use to test my soil? Lots of stuff out there online, but what to buy quality and what works. Thanks.
I absolutely love hydrangeas!!! After so many years how’s it going with the lime light hydrangea are they getting really big or hard to maintain? Do you wish you would have went with a small one now? I have four I want to plant near my window but from other videos on lime lights they can grow really big. I know i can cut them back but not sure.
I’m wondering how far apart from each other and the house she planted these. Does anyone know?
Is it ok to plan them in early spring march when night are still cold
Beautiful hydrangeas! I love all your videos! I live in Wisconsin zone 5a. I have 2 spots and i'm trying to decide on where to plant some bloomstruck hydrangeas. One is mostly sunny in front of our fence and the other is full shade, blocked by the house, in your opinion which spot do you think would be a better?!
Do you recommend any hydrangeas for the shaded area? I get evening sun for an hour or two. I live in Ct
In Texas during summer my roses always look like crap... Do you ever use Dr iron 21 percent iron on your plants
I am thinking of digging out the bed on the north side of our back fence and putting in hydrangeas. First...am I putting them in the right location? Our house is almost perfectly aligned to N/S.
Also..2nd..I am in love with Macrophylla hydrangea Pistachio and am wondering if the Limelight hydrangea (the short one mentioned here) is a good match to alternate with the Pistachio? Or is there a good lime colored hydrangia that would be more compatible?
Zone 6 Washington state.
I have a limelight hydrangea that I planted 3 yrs ago and for the last 2 yrs it gets so big that all the blooms are on the ground cause the stems cannot hold their weight. I did add a cage around it this spring so I'm hoping this works but haven't seen this problem with others that I've had in the past. I do trim it way back each fall/winter hoping this will help but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks for all your videos, they are great. I'm in North Carolina (zone 7).
Your climate sounds just like mine, except I'm in zone 2b. Most people get away with planting zone 4 plants, thankfully, though!
Nice
