  • I loved The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom! The gameplay and the world is magnificent. The only issue for me was the story. That doesn’t mean that the story is bad, by the way! Just the execution fell flat for me. If you enjoyed TOTK, that’s awesome!

Fun fact, THERE ARE THREE IMPRISIONING WARS.
Demise from skyward sword, Ganon from A link to the past (Many believe Ocarina Of time was meant to be that Imprisioning war) and then the one from ToTK... We have three Imprisioning wars AND ONE many fans wouldn't know of unless they read the tttp instructions.... Zelda Lore

You think you could do a community suggestion follow up to this video? Because while it is different and intriguing, I’m of the camp that thinks Ganon/Ganondorf should stay a villain. Outside of the whole Demise still exists thing, Ganon is like Cruella DeVille, you could make him sympathetic, but ultimately he’s just as evil as he always is. Some aspects in past depictions do hint that Ganondorf, even at his most understandable and sympathetic, is still the greedy, power-hungry, warmonger he always is. He reminds me of Megatron from Transformers, how even in stories where he’s sympathetic or even flat out becomes a good guy, Megatron is still more memorable as this unlikeable bastard you still like in a “you love to hate him” way, if that makes sense…

@@SBaker-my8ot I totally understand your point of view on Ganon! Fair enough. @@Elmushterri You take the suggestions aka the “Well, what do you think? Leave them down in the comments below…” suggestions and either compile them and give an overall summary of any similar versions into one, or you pick the one that stands out the most, then explain and expand on that one while to get the creative juices flowing, adhering to certain restrictions or guidelines.
One example of the latter using what you put in your video could be; using your idea as explained in your video, but the twist is that while Ganondorf is portrayed as a good guy, something happens that turns him evil as he always was or he was always as scummy and evil he was and his good guy persona was an act (adhering to the point I made regarding Ganondorf always being evil regardless of his sympathetic motivations, which to be fair in some cases might easily be the guy lying through his teeth…) This is an example, and not meant to be a serious suggestion I just listed, as I really don’t have any thoughts on how I would change TotK, outside of more obvious callbacks to prior games in the series within the story and not in optional armor you could grab. I think the story as presented is perfect, where my only gripe is that Ganondorf did not turn into Ganon, the Dark Dragon is awesome, but I think it would be better if the dragon, evidenced by the fact old Dorfie swallowed his stone as a last-ditch effort to destroy Link, his draconification ends up imperfect, thus the obvious weak points in the game itself, and maybe his dragon form taking on more “pig-like” characteristics as a further callback to Ganon…
Honestly, my earlier comment made me want to see a Transformers/Legend of Zelda crossover. I could easily see Ganondorf hating Optimus Prime as much as he hates Link, or even Zelda and Optimus getting along swimmingly (like a lost child finding guidance and comfort in a father-figure in a complete yet kind stranger…)

Because for some godforsaken reason Nintendo is obsessed with making Link as emotionless as possible because "he represents the player", which makes no sense because... the vast majority of players aren't emotionless husks? Lol. It's both sad and funny that Link shows more emotion when cooking than he does after realizing his gf sacrificed herself

  • @Lady_de_Lis
    @Lady_de_Lis Před rokem +82

The emotionlessness made more sense in BotW than it did in TotK since he was kinda a blank slate for most of it after losing his memories. But you're right, it's such a big shame they didn't make Link seem more emotionally invested in what was going on in the sequel.
Idk if it's some sort of cultural thing in Japan or something, but I think I've been noticing a trend of young Japanese male main characters (at least the ones which are supposed to be super cool and powerful and pure embodiments of wish fulfillment fantasy) tend to be very emotionally empty. Blank faced and unfazed by literally everything. So, maybe that cultural trend has just simply caught up with Link?

    • @SqueakyA5
      @SqueakyA5 Před 27 dny +2

even in breath of the wild we had a few times where Link did showcase emotion. Like the iconic frog scene where it was just him and Zelda. It would’ve made sense for him to show emotion during times where it’s just him and Zelda because the canon reason for why he doesn’t talk in BotW and TotK is because he feels with all the eyes and responsibility put on him it’s best to remain silent but when his with just Zelda those reasons easily can disappear. It would be in his character to react in some way regrading anything that has to do with Zelda. The two cutscenes that 100% would’ve have been improved by Link showcasing emotions (there’s a lot but these two specifically come to my mind, there’s also the puppet Zelda reveal but that’s a whole other topic) is the cutscene you get if you find all the memories as that information (Zelda’s whole dragon thing) would probably hurt him. Finding out that’s there’s really no way to get her back would’ve absolutely crushed something inside him. Puppet Zelda could’ve also used this against him and to try to break his mind as that’s something Gannon would definitely try and do. The other cutscene is no doubt more important and it’s the end cutscene. After Link swims him and Zelda to safety I would imagine he would be unable to control his emotions because hey remember how you were told that she wouldn’t ever came back well guess what she’s back! Someone said how they wished that after Zelda woke up and realize it was Link, that Link should’ve given her a hug. If he was more emotional during the game then this hug would’ve meant more. And again, like holy crap this is basically his lover for Pete’s sake. There’s so many little hints throughout the game that they like each other and maybe even were together it’s like why in the heck would he not hug her?! Personally, it took a lot of those cutscenes to see Link barely change his emotion.

    • @sophitiaofhyrule
      @sophitiaofhyrule Před 15 dny +1

Agreed, Link not showing emotion makes sense in BotW and is even explained in Zelda's journal, but there is literally no reason for him to be this way in TotK.

Maybe if it was reduce to the "final story arc" you go back and forth, each working towards the same fight...
Or maybe something more like Ocarina, but instead of child/adult you swap between Link and Zelda...
Could be played as memories given be Fi... Link meditates to commune with sword and we play Zelda,

I know this is from a year ago, but it has worked in games before. Such as some Sonic games (Shadow the hedgehog as a bad example), or more importantly, Detroit Become Human. Who- spoiler ig: Switches between the main characters, and there are three of them who sometimes interact, and you make decisions for each of them in the same scene sometimes (which rarely happens but still). Despite dbh being a Playstation game I think I would be fuckin awesome to have a dbh styled Zelda games in terms of story mechanics without the complicated flow charts. And there are MANY endings and routes to take in that game. (But it boils down to 3, good, neutral and terrible) Thats honestly all I could think during this video. Ganon is so ignored and unloved in the games. Sure he's the villain but sometimes there's no reason to it. Why does the triforce of power have to be an evil thing, I would love Ganon to have more merit. To be a young gerudo male who can become what all the prophecies say he is or redeem himself. I don't expect a gerudo male to actually be treated well at a certain point, y'know? "Because he's evil" I think in Ocarina of time he's an orphan (those two witch sisters adopt him i think). So basically, Ganon would be like Markus from dbh. Also, I think he should be a young man for once instead of being a middle aged man having beef with kids aged 11-18 lmfao. Sorry for this being long but honestly, this video inspired me a little bit. I don't really think any of this would work for a Zelda game or a Nintendo one, sadly. But it would be a bomb story, fanfiction or canon. I love the ideas and honestly have my own thoughts about it since OP didn't really mention much on Ganon's part. But I think Zelda and Link's part of the rewrite is perfect. I loved them all in TP and SS.
And the same for Zelda, despite the franchise being called "Legend of Zelda." Like the op said lol. SHE'S IMPORTANT. And is not a main character that you could play as. There is an announcement for a Zelda centric game where she's the mpc... but I'm not really excited for it. It's in the style of link's awakening on the switch, and that's it by the looks of it. 😐
(It's really hard to type on a tablet, BTW. Grammarly is trying to put a comma in every sentence and capitalize every internet abbreviation like a psycho.)

While I think Zelda turning back was really sweet and satisfying, the bittersweet reality of her serving her function of healing the master sword and just soaring eternally afterwards definitely would have hit hard. The transformation itself felt implied so heavily to be death coded, what with losing everything that makes the person unique. I guess what I’m saying is the impact of her sacrifice felt lessened with how less of a proactive part I believe the player plays in the de draconification
Maybe this happier ending could be gated by the completion of the dragon’s tears quest and a regular ending would see the light dragon flying off following the battle, leaving a melancholic atmosphere wether we realize it’s Zelda or not

I personally try to simplify things down to shape language. So, if I want to design a character that’s more soft in personality, I put a circle at the centre of their design, for example, making them softer and rounder. The bigger the shape on their design/the more of their design it takes up, the less stick-thin their body becomes. Same with strong characters. I usually use a square. Sometimes, I make their whole chest area square just to emphasise that they’re strong/muscular (not a PERFECT square of course, a vague, stylised chest-shaped square). That’s cause I’m not much of a realist, so I use cartoony logic! I don’t know if you do the same, but I hope this helps anyhow! Best of luck!

also side note i still disagree about the "not the right game for you" thing because some games just arent good for certain types of storytelling or mechanics. take for example disco elysium, if you are looking for an open world crafting sim type of game and get disappointed that the game cant fulfill that (also its a great game i would highly recc) i would try not to blame the game, as its more a case of misplaced expectations. HOWEVER , that is not to say the story doesnt need work! it truly could have been so much better! but it was always going to be held back by the limitations of the medium, being an open world fame that can be completed in any order.

As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the story of ToTK (but still had gripes with it), this video is everything that I think ToTK could have done to bridge the gap that some older Zelda fans and some newer Zelda fans. I thought ToTK was sort of a weird sequel to begin with; yes, there is continuity between it and botw, but we're still missing so much stuff from other Zelda games (AND from boTW, like-- where tf did the sheikah tech go LMAO).
I was definitely behind the "good Ganondorf" theories everyone was writing before the game's release. I was rooting for the possibility OF a good Ganondorf from the beginning. BoTW a name for itself for being an entirely new Zelda game, and ToTK could have continued that by breaking the torturous cycle that Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf have to go through era after era.

This should've been a story about the master sword and Ganondorf, a popular theory I like is from Monster Maze and Zeltik where the Zonai actually followed Ganondorf as well as turning him into the corpse that we see in the game. Then what if in the story of TotK, years later the Zonai help Link with their past mistakes as they felt regret for what they've caused, also Nintendo can't show us a half broken master sword and not have it be important, they should have made it where the tears are actually used to restore the master sword's power, and actually call it the Blade of Evils Bane again, sword that seals the darkness sounds like a 4 year old came up with it, have this Ganondorf be the one from Twilight Princess and Ocarina of time (they're the same Ganondorf), where once he sees Link and Zelda, he takes it personal to kill them both after the losses he's had in the past, as well as causing chaos for Hyrule and the races. Not to mention this would already make the game so dark because lots of people think this game would be dark like Majora, maybe Ganondorf truly uses his full power, summoning stronger enemies that make bokoblins look like jokes, such as Redeads, Darknuts, Skulltulas, maybe make some creepier looking enemies like the guardian concept arts, and have giant creepy mini bosses roaming around hyrule

there is actually some sense at restoring Zelda at the end when you realize How its done, the power they show is gold, specifically Time Magic gold, like the kind Link uses with Recall or the shere of light the Master sword is put into at the start of the game
Rauru and Sonia use their combined power in a juiced up recall channeled through Link to pull Zelda back through time to the moment before she ate her stone, which is why her stone is back around her neck and she's confused how she's back.
once you add time travel to anything, there are a lot of moments where "because time travel" is a legitimate answer to various "why the fucks?", even if it sounds cheap or unsatisfying
I mean Recall is legit an "undo" button for when you fuck up something
also fun fact: Ascend was actually a Debug command the Devs used during development as a sort of "unstuck" button during testing, but they had so much fun playing around with it and using it to explore that they turned it into an actual gameplay mechanic
Tbh I feel like the best story Rewrite for tears is legit Link grabbing Zelda in the beginning and both of them going through time together
with the main issue at the start being Link being Infected by Gloom and pretty much on the brink of death or being posessed by Ganondorf, Rauru and Sonia find them and then after some kind of Purification Ritual purging as much of the gloom as they can they use their funki Zonai tech in the form of their jewelry to bind it into Links arm and keeping it stagnant so it doesn't corrupt him, so now theres 2 reasons why Link can't use The Master Sword, 1) she broken and 2) the Gloom infection prevents him from using it without hurting himself since she's the sword that seals the darkness/Blade of evil's Bane. her whole deal is killing that shit and Link is now partially filled with it
so the journey of the game would be about restoring the master sword to her full evil banishing glory while also purifying Link of the evil inside him so he can go Kick Ganon in the teeth (tho you dont meet the bastard or learn the fuck happened till maybe the near end), hell you could have the five temples being five purification rituals where the boss's of the dungeons being formed by Purging the Gloom out and then having to beat the crap out of it with the final ritual being a Gloom based Dark Link fight like in Age of Calamity's malice dark champions. beat a dungeon, get the gloom partially blasted out and some kind of sacred magic or something to bring back to zelda and the Master sword to get her fixed up, so while Link is Farting around Ye Olde Hyrule as the worlds longest rehab session Zelda and the Royals of that Era are investigating what the fuck they found in the deep, why they got yeeted to the past and help Zelda learn to control her powers and it could later be revealed that Link was actually the one with time powers and getting his own secret stone it makes pulling off perfect dodges and guards a lot easier by doing something like slowmo-time like with bow air shots but with melee weapons so those of us that suck all the balls at doing perfect guards and dodges
hek with the final boss you could have it that Phase one is Rauru's sacrifice, Zelda and Link going into Stasis for the 10000 years together and then finishing the fight where the game starts off with their little magic cacoon being in the same place that Ganon was sealed, How sick would it be to fight Demon Dragon Ganon while climbing up Hyrule Castle shadow of the colossus style, getting all the way up to the very tippy top of the castle and then jumping off to stab him in the head

This doesn’t explain why various weapons exist that should canonically not like the Goddess Sword tho…

I remember I had such a blast playing breath of the wild again, because Zelda having this "fine I'll do it myself" attitude made so much sense, if for example link did perish in the calamity. Also, wolf link being there made a bit more sense too, my personal head canon was that after link woke up in the shrine, shenanigans ensue and he tries to make his way into the twilight realm (because of the mirror looking thing you can find I think) and later on Zelda takes on and defeats Canon with link in wolf form by her side. It felt so refreshing and I don't know why Nintendo won't give up more of the same old formula.

I don't mind totk's story save for the fact that it feels like a puzzle piece that doesn't fit in the puzzle. There are multiple callback to previous games, like Ganondorf and his story being a clear OOT parallel, the imprisoning war being the start of the downfall timeline and aLttP, and the founding of Hyrule after or possibly before Skyward Sword, but it is literally impossible for these all to be the same thing. Rauru cannot be the first King and Ganondorf be there because Ganondorf being sealed is why there are no more male gerudo in BotW, and Hyrule is founded directly after Skyward Sword. Even in the context of just BotW, the Zonai described in that game are warlike enemies of the kingdom, mystic figures with very rustic architecture that suddenly vanished, not the advanced scientific people who help found the kingdom itself before slowly dying out like they are shown to be in this game. It would be believable if everyone forgot the Zonai is they weren't connected to every region and literally half the the first royal family

Let me make a little suggestion that in the start link arm will be like infused with gloom like original and maybe demise tries to take control over on him but when you wake up ganondorf moves forward but you will see a golden when you touch it you instantly get a hand of some female and get the recall ablity in the hand because i guess purah cannot create recall kind of thing but forward you have a cooldown but after that cool down ends you can call zelda but only after taking the godess sword if you want something you have to switch BTW both link and zelda cool down are not connected so if zelda puts something in the little glowing portal when links cooldown will go he can make the portal and the dilouge will be like " link i have something for you " your goal will be like gather the three tears and you will call three of the sages from another timeline in my case ( sidon , tulin, and riju ) and they will get the same powers like in the original but this the real version of them will run around with you after getting the 3 tears you cannot talk to zelda because your power weakening but with the power the three sages you get one last talk with her she tells you that she has the triforce and says that she can fix yourmastersword i mean awakening it giving it a blessing she gives mastersword a blessing then tells that the plan is to that after sealing demise pass her the tears so she can make a wish after that you all go to the are where link awoke and link use his gloom hand to track him demise and after sealing demise the 4 give her the tear and the mastersword for safety but link understand that the hand is not his so he has to give it back link cut his arm and throw it inside here your story of links end BTW and in between links all the three task that she said and you would get a cutscene after doing both stories well zelda story and the end will be in the comments if iget 10 likes

There could also be something where Demise is trying to awaken within Ganondorf, but Ganondorf is working with Link to stop Demise out of spite. Maybe the body at the bottom of the castle, aster so much time exposed to the will and power of Demise was awakening his soul/memory/will. The Master Sword breaks as usual, but then the sealed essence of Demise within it leaves and goes into Ganondorf's body, taking control of it. This can do something to expel Ganondorf as well. Then Demise could release an aura of darkness that Zelda counteracts with light, and Link (and Ganondors) are caught in-between, and Zelda has to use her time powers to save Link, and Ganondorf gets caught up in that as well. So then you have Link and Ganondorf in a different time trying to get back to their own, and both want to stop Demise for their own reasons. Maybe Ganondorf only has his soul, and has to possess Zonite or Shiekah technology to have a body, and is doing this to get his body back, and you have to find or make better bodies for him.

This is an interesting pitch as a sequel to some of the old Zelda entries in the franchise.
I understand where the love for the older games is coming from, but like in comics, and the Final Fantasy games - I've come to accept that instead of having a unifying (set of) timeline(s), these games are just in a multiverse, some things are the same/familiar but also different and the games are contained in their own continuities.

My explanation for the Bloodline stuff is it’s just why all the Zelda’s have the tradition of being named Zelda. Presumably Zelda would’ve mentioned at some point how the first born girl in the royal family was always named Zelda, and since Sonia realized she and Zelda were related she adopted that tradition for herself thus explaining why Sonia (who I’m CERTAIN is reincarnated Hylia like Zelda is) creates this tradition despite the fact that, because she’s the first Royal Family member, she wouldn’t have the tradition originally
Also I really wanna see you redesign some enemies. Mostly the Gibdos since Gibdos are the mummified versions and the ToTK versions should be called Redeads

what a great rewrite! I would have liked it if they kept the original name for the series Hylian Fantasy (nes zelda was at least originally called Hylian Fantasy: Legend of Zelda) and it would have been cool if this more zelda centric story's title called back to it. Very lovely designs and I really wish there WAS more depth than just "oh Zelda gone, lets crucify koroks"
And how I would rewrite totk is make the story kinda more linear like still open but the more you do the more Gloom/Malice/Big bad gLOOP is gone and you're also collecting Ganondorf's memories probably from these super cool Phantom Ganon battles that would just straight up play nes style versions of the Phantom ganon theme from wind waker prolly hinting that these dopples are manifestations of this Ganon's frustraions (him being kinda sympathic or at least you understand the pain of being a dude who just wants to live but the curse of his ancestors says no) so it would end with a hyrule castle battle, link (or someone, maybe the Rauru arm) tries to reason with ganon the usurper but hes just "it is what it is sometimes, we will have a great battle and die like warriors like our ancestors" -kinda long and gibberesh but eh

Very interesting! My personal changes would be a bit different. I would keep the same format of the base game except being a little bit more timeline conscious. Have Rauru and Sonia know who Link and Zelda are, have Ganondorf be a little more knowledgeable of past games (like references in his dialogue), then of course the sages should either be changed to more Twilight Princess looking ones or change the races to be more like OoT or Skyward Sword. Tri force would have been great too. Like what if the stones were just a first act if you will and Ganondorf after coming back would be looking for the Triforce as well but realizes towards the end that he couldn't find it because Zelda went back in time.

  • @JonnyM2C
    @JonnyM2C Před rokem +1

Within TOTK, I feel there were really great moments that shows Link cared for Zelda. With the first fall, you see Link straining, trying to reach Zelda. His face becomes more intense when trying to get her. Using his hand that is so messed up that he holds it, and trying to save Zelda with it, gasping in devastation when he can't get her-shows he cares. The only reason he stopped looking that way was because the hand grabbed him because it wasn't expected. The next thing he knew he was in a dark place.
With SS Link, that scene when he was with Zelda was a different situation. This happened in front of him, where she didn't disappear, and nothing else was happening at that time-(outside of her being sealed), which can give him time to reflect and think. Just going with the fall scene in Tears, it's not the same because one thing was happening after another.
In the end, when she falls you see how Link panics trying to see where she was when she fell. His mind was on her right away when he gained consciousness-not even his own safety. Through his body language-by Link straining the length of his arm to get Zelda- truly is trying to save her, shows it's important to him.
Because of this, I feel personally it was still good. I do think his arm was bent because he was trying to reach out completely, but couldn't because of the wind. The wind was really intense. I think if you press something wrong, it pushes you back - showing the wind is strong. It took a moment until he was able to fully stretch it out, that is why when A is pushed, he was able to fully reach out is arm.
The thing that started his journey, was because Link wanted to find Zelda. You are right that you can do other things. However, because of the several elements that are still happening in the story, and canon-wise, due to them being the events that Link is supposed to do, it is why there is urgency-imo. I noticed even in Zelda games in the past, you are told how bad something is, but you can do what you would like.
Though I feel his reasoning in BOTW for not always emoting was fine, I do wish he did emote more in some of the other parts in the game. Funnily he does emote more than he did in BOTW but having him do it even more would have grown his character from BOTW. However, there were still moments that conveyed how he cares about Zelda and even others. With this Link, he shows how he feels through his eyes and body language the most. Sometimes it's really subtle, but there are still many times he fully show how he's feeling.
It's important for a character to show that they care, if they don't it takes away from that moment. By Link showing his feelings, even subtlety to me still makes the scenes work because it is still showing he cares.
Please allow me to say how I truly liked how respectful and kind you were in the video. You never came off as your opinion was fact, etc, which made the video very enjoyable. Not only that but your video would make a person have to think as well! It is enjoyable.

I want to start by saying this is an incredible video and I thoroughly enjoyed it! However, I've never really understood why people have a problem with the lore of TOTK.
In my head, I just made the connection that TOTK happens so far in the future that Hyrule fell and is being reestablished by the Zonai, hence the Temple of Time resembling the same temple from OOT and similar oddities. They weren't built by the Zonai or this Rauru's new Hyrule, they were built in a past so ancient that not even the Zonai know where it came from.
Also, it wouldn't make sense for TOTK to retcon Skyward Sword since Fi seems to be the same character from her original game to now. She seems to know Zelda's power of light (or Hylia's power) and how to repair the master sword. Though, I'm realizing that I don't have much evidence to prove that this Fi is the same from SS 😅 (I mean, she doesn't even warn you about your controller's batteries, she can't be the same character)
As for Sonia and Rauru being Zelda's ancestors, that's a little harder to rationalize in my head. Perhaps Sonia is another Zelda/reincarnated Hylia but just named differently. However, I don't recall Hylia having power over time but I would have to look that up lol
Also, I have nothing to defend how Purah and her team seemingly lost all the Divine beasts. Maybe over the 6 years between BOTW and TOTK, her and her team dismantled them and used the parts for research and development of the skyview towers, among other things? It's the only thing that logically makes sense imo lol

Yeah the story bugged me too. Skyward sword explained the constant reincarnation with Demise's curse. BOTW seemed to be set so far into the future that the hyruleans have plenty of preparation in place for the next emergence of Ganon, and its happened so many times ganon has devolved into a mindless beast. I thought it was building towards the curse being broken, instead you can boil the story down to a rehash of Ocarina of Time.

Honestly at this point i just believe the idea that botw and totk are a sort of a soft reset or a different timeline entirely, because i really dislike how it basically ignores skyward swords story. I loved skyward sword and what it set up for the lore of the series.

I’d personally love to have some of the main quests(particularly the dragon tears) to have been available after the reveal of puppet Zelda. It was very weird to me that I had to follow someone who link should have known was not Zelda and get caught in an obvious trap. Or at least have alternate dialogue for when the player finds out the dragon Zelda information and perhaps has an advantage in the fight against phantom ganon due to the knowledge that it was a trick. The secret stones I assume get their name from the Japanese names but in English it sounds odd, because the stones are not a secret. Perhaps if they had a name like, sacred stones, zonai stones, or dragon stones (given that consuming one turns you into a dragon and in the fight against the demon dragon, it’s secret stone is revealed).
I love the idea of three people posessing the tri force pieces coming together to use the tri force against the enemy especially the idea of ganondorf or an ancestor of ganondorf being good(after all if there are multiple ganondorfs they wouldn’t name the one guy gerudo the same as the last male gerudo who tried to take over the world would they? And it would’ve been nice to see the past as a past that was detailed in another Zelda game too
And being able to play the games titular character would have been great.
Botw and totk’s strongest asset is there open world but this has its weakness as the games give too much freedom to the player in terms of story progression, it’s nice to go straight to the end of the game but the story in between should still have some linearity in that all aspects of the story influences what other aspects are presented, the goals can always be the same but the reasons as to why those goals are there should change if it contradicts a story element you have already seen. They did it with mineru, if you found her before purdah tells you too it is mentioned in dialogue a sì il thing should have occurred when link discovered what happened to Zelda before discovering puppet Zelda, simple dialogue like “we need to investigate this imposter Zelda to see what she is up to and who she really is” to have the player feel like link is not withholding any important dialogue even if link states the dragon Zelda issue and the others don’t believe him due to seeing her with their own eyes etc.

I honestly think that a cool way to make Ganondorf both the Hero of Ancient Times and The Calamity would be to make it so, after the War Against Demise, be it in the Original Calamity 10.000 years ago or in some other conflict, the Reincarnation Of Demise were to be so strong that his Immortal Soul had to be bound to a Mortal one in order to debuff him so he didn't just one shot, but it couldn't be just any one, so one of the heroes, Ganondorf of the Gerudo and wielder of the Triforce of Power, had to do it because he was the only one strong enough to do so.
So yeah, that's my personal headcanon.

I completely agree, I love playing TOTK I just feel like certain aspects like the narrative, how the plot was told to the player, the dungeons and the characters were lacking. I feel like TOTK could have been the perfect mix between BOTW and traditional Zelda games, but I do feel like the timeline issues are valid just because of it changed like Rauru and Ganondorf are completely different characters who are very similar to their past counterparts for no good reason.

I don't understand why many people insist you can't have an open world game with good gameplay and story immersion. They did it with the xbox's Fable series *although I prefer zelda combat style and themes since I'm a E or T rated gamer* so I don't understand how it can't be done in the modern age.

See I always just assumed Link never moved on from his actual love for Mipha and therefore guarded his heart even after the events of BoTW and was just fulfilling his duty as the chosen swordsman but never actually opening up his heart to Zelda. So I think he’s just so mentally snapped that he finds joy in simple things like cooking and is absolutely indifferent to Zelda or the world ending up in absolute turmoil cause that just sort of ended up being his life. That’s atleast how I justified Link’s lack of emotion, but I do miss the passionate Link from TP and SS

@@ilykatara sorry, the Japanese adventure log from botw is written from Link’s perspective and states that he refers to her as a loved one, so it became a fairly popular idea for a while that they both shared feelings from each other which is where I got that idea from. It’s also stated that Zelda has feelings for Link but he doesn’t share the same feelings for her. When he loses his memory, he returns to being pretty emotional and talkative and cracks jokes, so I was just assuming that even after all of that, he never opened up to Zelda about everything he felt, keeping a professional boundary and even though he protects her, it’s never stated that views her as loved one. I think ToTK Link is more talkative and less stoic as pre calamity Link but most of the Links are. Regardless, maybe they just didn’t want to present Link as emotional in this game and focus more on the rest of the world but I do wish that they had done something to show his thoughts more. Maybe it’s a translation thing like it is from BoTW, but I haven’t ventured into looking into that.

I love your suggestions! Much needed changes for sure.
Yesterday I left a comment on a different video critising tok story structure and it feels very relevant here, but I don't have time nor energy to reword this rn but still really want to share my thoughts with other people critising the story, so here is a copy paste of that one :')
finally someone who said it! I've had an issue with the structure of tok from the beginning, till the very end i was expecting more. Don't get me wrong, in itself the story is beautiful and the cutscenes were incredibly cinematic, but that is all they were >cinematic<
    HEAVY spoilers from here;
My unmet expectations for the story were so bad that I even assumed that they would actually save after the final ganondorf battle and progress the story past that, because up until this damn moment we had gotten almost ZERO context on how tok and botw are linked and not a single character had uttered a single word about the fact that ''hey guys, we know where zelda is. in fact where she is, isnt our biggest issue at all anymore, we have to figure out how to undraconify her!'' instead the main quest remains ''find princess zelda'' and everyone is talking about how ''hey we spotted her in the castle'' etc when if you do the dragon tears as soon as you unlock them, you very early on find out that SHE LITERALLY CANNOT BE THERE. Still it doesn't matter at all, no npc nor link nor the damn game itself ever mentions the fact that the question ''where is zelda?'' incredibly early on changes to ''how do we return her to her human self?''. But no, instead they send me to every random stable and village, which is to be fair an open world symptom and i could excuse, and into the castle to then suddenly act like link doesnt have a single clue that this is a trap and not the real zelda??
Till the last cutscene i expected that the final battle would end on another main quest to seek out the light dragon and find a way to break the curse, which technically happens but i expected it to be DONE BY THE PLAYER? and not two ghosts spawning out of nowhere that suddenly have incredible and IMPOSSIBLE powers. The entire point of the dragon tears was, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to return back to your former self after eating a secret stone, to not only with no previous build up or even canon acknowledgement but also out of nowhere and without player input have sonia and rauru just ~poof~ her back to normal, is just a very dissatisfying deus ex machina.
This together with the huge lack of depth or development for all characters but especially link zelda and ganondorf just weakens the story sooo much. They showed us that we can see memories from other povs too, why only show so little of what happened to zelda? Show us more about ancient hyrule, rauru and sonia etc. SHOW US ANYTHING ABOUT GANONDORF FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE PLEASE HE GETS 0 MOTIVES IN THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION AND A POOR EXCUSE OF A MOTIVE IN THE OTHERS, show me ganondorf planning an assault on hyrule, show me the ancient gerudo sage having a conflict with him, they clearly had disagreements, show me actual scenes set in ancient hyrule. Hell why do we still have memories anyways? It worked in botw because botw was all about recovering from amnesia and a huge calamity, the point is that there simply isn't a lot of context left and link needs to somehow piece the lose threads of info into a coherent picture by himself. There is no reason for link to not know whats going on, in fact from the moment you find the first dragon tear he knows just about everything that's going on, and it has NO impact on the story what so ever, even getting blatantly ignored. If what the player knows matters so little, let us switch to playing as zelda in ancient hyrule instead of showing us far too short cut outs from back then, that would solve a lot of context and character depth/development issues.
As beautifully as tok mirrored botw in both game and story structures while still making it feel new, in this aspect they absolutely trapped themselves in the botw mold. The world could've been a tiny bit less openworld and a tiny bit more story structured and I probably wouldn't have had most of these complaints, or at the very least would be more lenient with them. I'd have absolutely accepted, as much as it bugs me, for the final boss to once again have no impact beyond a star next to my safe file, if they just changed one thing:
The entire story revolves around Sacrifise, just for the finale to nullify the biggest and most tragic sacrifice in that godforsaken deus ex machine type scene just takes any stakes out of the story. All of this dramatic build up etc just for her to get turned back with no consequences? Just for link to get the sacrifised arm back?
It makes it feel like everything was for nothing, not only did it not matter and was easily reversible, but more importantly, it was entirely out of the players control.
Why do I get to free and rebuild lurelin village as a perma change but a gigantic dragon exploding leaves nothing behind and I don't even get to do the one thing that has been the main quest since the very first second of the game myself: save zelda?
I loved every second of the 80 playhours I got in before beating Ganondorf, I really did. But I always had this thought in the back of my mind ''Hey this can't be all, right? There has to be more to the story, right? We'll get more context to how we got from botw to tok, right? We'll get to save zelda ourself, right?'' and with that thought I went into the final fight (which was beautifully executed btw) and then out of that fight too. After 80 fantastic playhours, I couldn't help but feel INCREDIBLY dissatisfied after the final battle. After so much fun playing, I went out entirely disappointed.
Don't even get me started on almost no npcs from botw recognising link in tok and one of the only consistancies between the games being master kohga being a sore loser. What happend to all the sheikha technology? Why are the four champions actually just not mentioned beyond the mipha fountian in zoras domain? WHY IS NOTHING EVER EXPLAINED?
The entire game just lacks a detrimental amount of context. All the while the devs team is practially flexing their amazing indepth worldbuilding abilities with every single npc dialogue, building, armor piece, item, etc. contributing to making hyrule as a whole feel like a believably lived-in world. WHERE IS THIS DEEP ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN YOUR MAINSTORY NINTENDO?
I'd like to note that the only reason I notice this stuff, is because I love botw & tok, so this in no way is just me hating on the game, in all the other aspects it was more than perfect, which just makes this all the more frustrating.

I for sure would say that the story could have been more consistent and improved/ Personally I do NOT like ganondorf being good AT ALL, as it not only goes against the themes of who ganondorf is, but also is very inconsistent with his character in general.
personally, I think ganondorf from Twilight Princess making a return along with a more time travel connection to the hylia imprisoning war would have been very interesting. Something where demises spirit brings TWP ganon back and Link and Zelda have to fix the mastersword in a more tradition sense. (find sages, re-ignite the spirit flames in the blade, ect). I think eventaully having link go back in time to find zelda and get the master sword as a whole section/dungeon would be really epic.
And I think having Ganondorf be the TWP ganon with memories and such to that time would have made for some great moments (And his memories of OOT). Maybe even have some more call backs to those games at times. Seeing him be more active and appear directly around the world, ect.
But the game was epic still, and I enjoyed it for sure. But yeah I think there are ways the story side could be improved even with keeping an open world.

This was a great critique of TOTK and I love the idea of two save files. I was horribly disappointed by its story and while I played through for the first time I just had more questions on how this story could've failed so badly. Here 's some things that I thought about while playing the game:
    - I think the introduction sequence is perfect and it doesn't need to change much, but the intermitten story beats really have to.
    - The Zonai didn't need to be an entirely different race and I think they should've been another humanoid people. I don't know why Nintendo is so obsessed with sky people and making them vastly different to Hylians. The Zonai could've been another word for the forgotten Skyloftians, and that's what I'd thought they would be.
    - If they made Ganondorf morally ambigious like WW it would've been better. Also if they just kept Ganondorf a lich it would've made the passing of time more believable.
    - I agree that Link should be dynamic, I know that through dialogue and his diary (Japanese ver) he has personality and character, but I'd like to see more of how he matured from being a century-old teenager to being an adult in TOTK. They do some of that in TOTK, but I'd like to see some of it through cutscenes. I would like to have seen him struggle with having a new hand, or maybe even deal with being gravely injured again like BOTW.
    - I think TOTK destroyed the entire point of Zelda's arc from BOTW, because we spent the entire game knowing that she was fully capable to hold her own but now we just have to come find her again? Really?
    - I also think there's issues with the Sages, especially how Tulin is SOMEHOW an ancestor of the Rito sage. All of the Sage's ancestry except for Tulin make sense, his family was literally random archers. Maybe if they had chosen a different character it would've had more impact, or that Revali had a secret younger brother who had a child.
    - Lastly, Hero's Aspect is hideous and ugly, but I wish they put more focus on the Hero from 10k years ago.

I rally like this spin you've taken on the storyline, especially about how Zelda and Link being more involved with each other. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some good open world, but I think it would be nice if the game retained that element while also incorporating a more structured storyline, with more urgency to save Zelda. I also think that instead of having a two main world options for what you want the story to center itself on, it should just be about the Zelda and Link option. Instead, you could have a story mode selection to choose whether or not you want it open world focused, or more structure specific with clear objectives kind of like how skyward sword does it. This way, the devs would probably end up bringing in even more revenue for the game by providing more satisfaction to player preference for the best game experience. And another thing, "GIVE US A ZELDA MAIN CHARACTER!!!" Listen, we all love Linkey boy but can we pleeeaasee have some goddess main character screentime too. And let's make sure to once again address Links stone cold face when saving Zelda. As you mentioned before he's meant to be a self-insert, but that doesn't stop him from having a little personality when it comes to friends, foes, and especially our queen Zelda. In fact, I actually think we would be able to insert ourselves into link more if we could sympathize and understand the way he thinks and feels, which would allow us, the players, to get a better grappling and true involvement in the story, if we were able to see from Links perspective, and then be fueled with our own passion for the characters and story we love. (Also 10,000 years is ridiculous, thank you Elmushterri for saying what all of us were thinking. We don't really get to understand how Zelda felt waiting all that time!) Nonetheless the og story is still absolutely incredible and outstandingly creative. The devs know what they're doing, and I would absolutely love if they reached out to the community and asked what we want to see for future loz games aside from the open world aspect👍

There's a big difference between a rewrite and an AU. These ideas are so disconnected from the themes, plot points, and overall narrative of this game that you've wound up with something else entirely. That's not to say that your ideas aren't cool, but I consider a rewrite to be a similar-but-modified version of a story that addresses a narrative weakness. Your ideas address lore and mythos more than they actually engage with the source material, and they miss the point of the narrative choices it made. It's not a rewrite to say, "well actually, I think it'd be better if Ganondorf was a good guy and Skyward Sword things and Zelda's dead." That's an AU, and honestly I feel like a lot of the better AU's will start writing their differences in places that reflect more of their original story. I think there are a lot of questionable ideas in Breath of the Wild that would be great to address in a rewrite. Ganondorf is literally just evil, the only thing Rauru really does wrong in what we see of his story is be smug, and the individual character questlines are all basically the same. There's a lot you could improve here and instead all of your focus went towards making a sequel to Skyward Sword.

The original Zelda "Imprisoning War" is actually from the events prior to A Link To The Past when Ganon tried to invade Hyrule from the Dark World and the sages had to seal away the entire Sacred Realm to stop this. I'm pretty sure Skyward Sword's war against Demise was called something else.

I replay her cutscenes almost every time I open my TOTK file I wish we had more of her and the scene where were they call out puppet Ganon would have been amazing if she turned around and after saying “Oh?
