What I find interesting is that the previous version boasted 26g of protein, but this current one claims 34g. They must have discovered some higher protein non-meat fillers in the last several years.
I guess now I know why I can't find them anymore. The Backyard BBQ used to be one of my favorites in the Hungry Man lineup. I accepted the fake meat for what it was and used all the sauce for the potatoes. My only complaint was finding corn in the brownie. The secret I've found to all TV dinners is don't overcook the meal. I never trust the instructions for cooking length. Just because you are trying to skip out on cooking doesn't mean you shouldn't cook the TV dinner to its imperfect perfection.
I’m convinced the only people who eat Hungry Man regularly must hate themselves. It isn’t cheap, fast or convenient relative to countless other options and it tastes like sadness.
I was amazed that there was NO corn in the brownie or mashed potatoes (every frozen dinner I have had, the corn was everywhere)...3:53 See even your hand model thought the corn should be on the brownie....oh she pushed it back in with the rest of the corn.5:59 no need to say more.
Most things are still $1.25 though. $1.25 for two pounds of rice isn’t bad. A lot of things are overpriced at $1.25, of course. It’s just that they used to have expensive-looking things that were $1 (or more recently $1.25) because they expired in 6 weeks and they’d been sold to Dollar Tree on the cheap. Nowadays when I see such a thing it’s on a $3 or $5 shelf usually but it’s not a month or two from expiration. It’s boring and disappointing.
As a veteran of eating this meal, i always cut up the "meat" and chicken and mixed up the mashed potatoes and the bbq sauce. The doctor told me to stop eating them so I did.
The only Hungry Man meals that are half-way decent are the fried chicken and Mexican Fiesta ones. I always doctor the Mexican meal with shredded cheese and jalapenos which masks the weird flavor of the "meat" they put in the enchilada.
I haven't seen a Hungry Man brand dinner since I was a kid. I swear they used to come in a big tinfoil tray, and were closer to the size of a casserole dish? Wasn't that was the selling feature, a "MAN SIZED" prepared dinner? That looks like a Lunchables kit, aimed at the prison industry! I mean, I know it's trash, but a TABLESPOON of corn and potatoes!?
I watched his review from 7 years ago, and the weight was the same 432g or 15.25 oz. However, the protein then, was 26g, and now says 34g. Strange that here in Canada, the packaging states 455g in weight, with 31g of protein.
Banquet still reigns king of TV dinners, IMO. Their 6 Salisbury steaks with some steamed green beans (add salt, pepper, butter, dried/minced onion and bacon bits) and instant potatoes(add salt, pepper, butter, garlic, and minced onion) is still my go to when I don't want to spend more than $4 for something delicious and nostalgic. 👊👊👊
After personal experience, Wolfe totally nailed the non-rating on this one. The "best" part of it is the brownie, otherwise, just eat the box ( with butter, of course). You'll be better off.

About a month ago The Lovely Bride purchased a couple of those.....Even Texas Pete could not save the so-called pork and chicken and there was not enough salt, pepper, and real, honest to goodness butter on hand to make the taters and corn worth the electricity used to prepare it. The brownie was just the good side of OK to be recognizable as a brownie.

I have a request for you, its partially because I hate math and also partially because you already have done the research: What is a "Healthy canned meat" and what are the most affordable versions of it? I still watch your oldest uploads* from time to time and A Whole Chickem in a can is always going to be my favorite besides the "spreadable pizza" in a can.
The thing is a lot of those meals at the current prices are not worth it. I would buy them when they were cheaper, you hungry you are hungry, some bread and make them sandwiches. The family size encore or whatever, the turkey, the pork shaped things, Salisbury steak things, that is all they are really decent for. They messed up the brownies on the hungry man stuff. I will get the chicken tenders or nuggets meals, they are still cheap enough. The fried chicken ones, are okay but getting very pricey. It is crazy. They had a sale here on 80/20 ground beef for 2.99/lb I bought 20 lbs. A lot of meatloaf in my future
These brownies are "interesting". I overcooked mine once and it got hard like a rock. So I put it in a bowl, added water, let it soak for a while, and stirred. It made a yummy chocolate pudding :-)
Back in the late 90s when I was a starving college student, I would maybe eat one of these a month. Now I would just cook extras and freeze them. Glad you are doing these taste test "for the people" because I think the sodium and fillers is too much for me.
I have had this meal, I had it at work, prepared in a microwave. The worst frozen dinner I have ever had! No, no, no. Thanks for you're videos. Love them.
Sometimes I watch videos like this to help me validate my carnivore/ketovore lifestyle. Watching this I got that weird feeling in the back of my jaws as if I was going to get sick. I'm never going back to eating processed or ultra-processed faux food again.
I love the Hungry Man boneless chicken meal. I can’t stand mashed potatoes, they make me gag. But I love the ones in the Hungry Man meal. And I’m not a fan of brownies, but I like these.
Your videos really got me messed up ! Ever want/got to have a meatloaf sandwich and don't have a meatloaf or ground beef ? This is what you want to do, buy a Smart ONE frozen meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and gravy for two bucks, buy a nice hard roll, toast it if you want, put the meatloaf patty on the hard roll, put the gravy, (ketchup and barbecue sauce too is optional)(also optional is a few slices of bacon and/or slices of cheese)on top, put the mashed potatoes on top of the meatloaf patty, put the top of the roll on, heat up in microwave or oven for a few minutes, and enjoy the damn thing ! Looking for a sidekick ? I'm your man !
When I was a hungry young man (many eons ago) with little cooking skills and even less money I'd always put the meatloaf, Salisbury steak etc. Patty on a hard roll to fill out the meal.
67% of your daily sodium in that TV dinner. Unfortunately, corporations just add more salt to their food when it lacks/needs flavor. To hell with adding more herbs or additional garlic and onion.
Fun one: El Monterey Beef and Bean flavored burritos. There's no meat in them - it's textured vegetable protein and pea protein isolate. Saw that today and gagged - I like both those things, but I hate fake food misleading consumers.
Problem is, IF I get these, It still takes a Minimum of 3 to even begin to fill me. I only eat once a day MOST times and the Occasional 2 Meals or Split the One into Two..

It's very common nowadays, mostly by a certain sub based sandwich chain and their chicken
I was looking for this comment. They could have used aminos in it. They do this with protein powder it’s called amino spiking.
Yes.

A McRib in a bun (when available) is the same as the fake pork ribs in a tray.
Nah, disagree, because at least a McRib has flavor -- even if it's not a great flavor. *🤣*
