Before removing the breakshoes I use a tiewrap to hold the brakePistons in place;) btw thank you so much! It helped me a lot these videos!
Nice job! I like the fact you did not edit some problems as it is always happening. Good honest advice. Thanks! Ah, one thing, the bearing for me was not as easy in my car
Thank you! Just try to let you guys see. wat "can" happen or run into. The video's are there to give currage to the home gamer. But also give you a realistic view can decide for your self to do it or let it be done.
Highly informative, detailed and helpful. Keep up the good work The Dutch Garage.
Thanks!
Just been all night messing about with the breaks on my Seat Ibiza mk2, it turns out I messed up big time the automatic adjuster, i just copy it from the ones installed, first i did the passenger side and I guess I was lucky and it fitted like a glove, but on the driver's side that's when it all went wrong, eventually I managed to make it fit but had to loosen up the hand brake cable but when I tried to adjust it again of course it did not work, so I quit and went to bed and came across your vid, tomorrow I will check everything again and will have to adjust the automa...... Thank you very much for the vid, de groeten van uit Portugal ✌️
No problem! Great to hear that you have solved the issue.
Excellent commentary, brilliant detailed information. Your sense of humor is infectious. Whats with the 4 Nm ?
Just don't question German engineering :-). Thank you for the compliments I really appreciate that!
Just finished my rear drums with your help thanks bro😁
No problem, my gabber!
Didn't see any car repair video before that was as funny as this one. Okay, I wouldn't ask this garage to repair my car but it's great entertainment. I like it and I wouldn't be surprised to see the very same car in another video soon... maybe the wheel bearing didn't have enough of that "German Quality" to survive the Dutch treatment 😂
Luckily, I'm not a garage. Just a guy that does stuff in his garage. But glad to hear it is entertaining. Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks I got my daughters fox brakes to do soon 👍🏻🏴
Somebody is gonna be dad of the day. 👍
That viewing worked a treat . 👍
Great to hear.
2:50 to skip the bullshit! xD
Excellent tutorial 👌🏻 thanks very much.
But I have a question about the adjustment on these. Do they self adjust when you press or pump the brake pedal or do you have to adjust them manually?
Thanks again 👍🏻
Greetings from Scotland 🏴
Thank you, it's a automatic system. most of the time wat I do after installation is yanking the E-brake a couple of times. Then you can really feel it tighten it up.
Thanks very much 👍🏻 I did what you said and it worked a treat 😊
Keep up the good work mate 👌🏻
@@jamiemccort8388 That's great to hear, good job!
You can do this without taking the bearing off, specifically for those that don’t have the proper tools to install it again, because there is a crazy torque specs on it, 180nm +180°. You can even do it without taking the brake cylinder off.
It's 70Nm and 30°
Changed my break drums but the hand break now doesn’t work. Any answers?
have you checked that the cable is indeed hooked to and seated on the long vertical lever that can be seen @12:16?
Thanks, time to swap drum brakes on my ibizia mk3 2002 :)
Good luck!
@@TheDutchGarage It didnt go as planned, initially i had no manual handbrake or rear brakes. Turns out the auto adjuster isnt really... working... on VAG models in most cases. Had to knock down the adjusting pin so the drums couldnt go on. Then knock it back bit by bit until the drums just about cleared the shoes. Still not optimal and it isnt auto adjusting even when braking hard. Aside from that this vid helped!
I think its due to the original metal piece you keep between the shoes, different tolerances between original parts and new OEM parts.
@@str8forthakill That sucks! Hopefully you will be able to fix that.
How were the studs removed at the very beginning?
Thank you, a very helpful video, one question, what is the tool called you used to pull back the hand brake cable spring ? The is the hardest part of the job 😮 and won’t have my friend around for the other side 🎉
C clip pliers or snapring pliers. Good luck 👍
good work! very helpful...thanks man
Glad it helpt you out.
Exelent help good you can folow all steps .
Great to hear that.
Another great video :-)
Really helpful, thanks!
Great video and very helpfull
No problem.
Thank you
No problem. 👍
entertaining...what size is the bearing nut please?
Thank you for detailed explanation, just finished mine on polo 9n.
But now I have soft brake pedal and hand brake is quite loose. Btw I bleed only rear brakes with car engine on. You have idea what can be problem or I made misrake with bleeding them out..? Thanks!
Hi there, bleed the brakes front and back until the brakes are firm.
@@TheDutchGarage Ok and thank you for reply!
Thanks and Well done.............Actually the stupid lever and spring system is more than 100 years old.....Henry Ford would recognize what you have demonstrated.............I hate them..........with a passion........and you always have to keep one eye on the shoes damaging the slave cylinder seals......which really ruins your whole day...I recently did the same job only to find the cheap rotten slot on the spring retainer rotted out and had to buy a whole new spring set....did I mention I hate them ?
Maybe we should both get counseling for this issue.
Yay new video 😍😍😍😍
Yes, yes it is!
The Haynes manual for the POLO 9N says the hub should be torqued to 37 Pound/Feet, I believe you say something different here.
Between information there are some abnormalizes. But i know for sure if you torque it to 37 pound feet you are going to loose a wheel. What i could find for the 9n is 155NM. The way I did it is for the 6r polo. The brakes may be the same but sometimes the torque specs are different .
The workshop manual for Skoda Fabia mk1 is 70nm and then tighten a further 30°
That’s strange cause my mk4 and mk5 polo torque specs are 180nm then 180°
Yes then its 70nm or more on this type of polo what is on video?
How did you adjust them?
For the difficult springs, would be wise to put them in boiling water to ease them up a bit? Making it easier to pull into place? Especially the last one at 16:30
With the special pliers its also a lot easier. Still didn't buy them tough.
200x40mm or 180x30mm..??? Puedo montar 180mm on 200mm?
I don't know for sure but you probably could if you change the pads and drums.
What size IS The wheel bearing Bolt?
Its a 30mm 12 point socket.
@@TheDutchGarage Is this different from a 'standard' deep 30mm socket - as I have just tried that on a Seat Ibiza 2010, and it seems to be too small to fit the nut?
Be sure it is a 12 point socket. I also have seen 32MM.
How many miles (or kilometers) on that car?
About 210000 ad that time.
@@TheDutchGarage 250.000 on my 2008 ibixa, handrake goes almost all the way up, i believe mine are gone too
Looks like im going to be hating life doing this in the apartment parking lot.
That maybe the case, but when your done and see how much money you saved it will be all worth it.
have rear drums on my 2013 1.4 ibiza. what a horrible system, why dont they just put discs on the rear too, drums looks more complicated and prone to issues
It's probably much cheaper to produce.
They are cheaper to produce so they tend to put them on smaller cars that require less stopping force. They emit less brake dust, No expensive caliper repairs and they’re is a small weight saving too. But yeah brake discs are easier really
No corolla in this movie
It is a sad day...
Wow... How not to change your brake shoes.. 😂😂
No idea why in 2023 we still have cars with drum brakes!
They are reliable, but most of all cheap to produce.
@@TheDutchGarage I'm just replacing the rear drum brakes on my Skods Fabia (2014). Both sides were leaking slightly. So, I decided to replace the lot, drums, shoes, brake cylinders and bearings. The lot cost £150. Oddly I had an older Fabia which had discs all round. I could change all the pads in an hour.
would be a decent video without all the stupid cartoon comments added.
Maybe, but that's not going away anytime soon.
Thank you.
No problem.
