  • I was getting tired of how tall it was compared to the trunk size so I air layered the top of it!

This has been one of my favorite trees to see on your channel. Excited to see them develop!

I'm glad to hear that! For the first few years, this tree was just another cutting in a pot. Then it seems like one day I just looked at it and bam! It was a decent little tree! It kind of snuck up on me.

I've got a too little ficus that I did a big chop on. It was leggy and I wasn't happy with the appearance. It was touch and go if it'd live or die.🤣 Surprisingly, it's got nice new growth appearing. 👍❤️

Nice! Go big or go home as they say! Maybe repot the stump in the middle of summer? I’m thinking because 70%+ of the tree is gone those roots that existed because of it might rot, also an opportunity to change the angle slightly, (if you so wish) just thinking that it’s growing out straight from the soil which is fine, tho because of the branch sticking out 90 degrees it might look like a lightning bolt kind of thing 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yep, I was thinking about that too. I'm hoping it shoots a bunch of new branches out of the top so I'll have some options, but this tree likes to do the opposite of what I want sometimes lol

I have a ficus benjamina that was given to me this past Christmas. I love it and want to start making decisions, but I don't know where to start. It'll be my first attempt at bonsai.

Not sure if you watch much of Nigel Saunders videos but he's got a ton of great videos on these. His are pretty well developed too and mostly started from seeds or small cuttings. That's who I started watching when I first started with bonsai.

@@BonsaiBoise I don't believe I've seen his videos. I'll give them a look. Although I think I've seen all of your ficus benjamina videos. You put out some great content.

@@None2Lose I appreciate that! I've actually been meaning to do a follow up to a general Ficus Benjamina video I did last year. Kind of an update on some of the weird, odd ball ones I have.

Mike, how often do you reply the osmacote? I've been using as well.

I'm kind of bad about it. I'll stay on top of it every couple weeks for awhile, then forget for a month, etc. ideally, every 2 weeks
