  • 20 years ago the Kingdome was imploded in Seattle, Washington. Home to the Seattle Seahawks, Mariners, and Sonics, the multi-purpose stadium opened in 1976 and was an icon of the city. Check out a handful of different angles, some in high-definition, from the significant moment in Pacific Northwest history.

    Seattle has never been the same since the dome was blown down. I only got to go there one time, I was five years old at the time and that was during the mariners 1998 season. Even though many complained about this stadium, it was a legendary dome.

      Not really - it was an ugly building that became a death trap and cost people lives. While it did bring Baseball and Football to Seattle, it did not really provide a good venue for either. What we have now is objectively better in every regard.

    I remember seeing it go down while watching from Bainbridge island in my back yard while also watching it on Komo4. It was amazing to see the implosion on TV and from the beach, then some time after distinctively hear and feel the sound of each charge hit me from across the water.
    A friend of my mom’s called while freaking out and saying that she thinks we’re under attack or a war is breaking out. She had no clue the demolition was happening.
    The last time I was there it was for a Supercross event. Some great memories at the dome. Watching the Mariners when Griffey and A-Rod were still young. I was there with my cousins for that Yankees game in 95, was 9 years old. What an incredible nigh “My Oh My!”. Then after walking down those huge ramps that go around the stadium while everyone was in the best mood. The streets in downtown packed with happy fans on their way home. I miss those days so much.

    I'll never forget,Seattle's silver endzones. They were badass. Honestly,I've never heard of the 12th man up until '03. Seattle wasn't rocking in the 90s,besides Pearl Jam,Nirvana,Spin Doctors,Counting Crows (unsure), and Soundgarden aka Grunge. Still time this day,I hold a grudge vs Miami. First time watching Seattle in the postseason was against Miami and they lost. I swear,Seattle's AFCW time in the 90s were irrelevant. Only Seahawks fans can acknowledge Dan McGwire,Rick Mirer,Curt Warner,Chris Warren,Joey Galloway,Brian Blades,Ricky Watters,Chad Brown. ; etc. Yeah,Seahawks fans were still LOUD & PROUD at Washington Huskies stadium. Authentic fans of Seattle exists. Unfortunately,all of us has a negative reputation being a fan since "12." Anyone ignorantly saying that hasn't been watching football long enough. I've had Joey Galloway's jersey since '99 and everytime I wear Galloway's jersey in public. Some random idiot says : "Nice throwback." Seattle has probably one of the most loyal fans in the NFL. As bad Seattle was in the 90s. Loyal fans expressed their support at the Kingdome.

      @chapmaned24 Před 5 měsíci

      A trash team that won a superbowl! Besides, the stadium being destroyed was a pre-amble of the NEW stadium to be later built. An outside stadium. All that said, I hate the fact that stadiums today have corporate names, or ideology names instead of local names. The word "King" was due to the name of the county, which later was redefined for Martin Luther King. Now, it's called Lumen Field, previously known as Quest Field, and Century Link Field. When the Seattle Supersonics were here, their stadium used to be known as Seattle Center Coliseum. Now, it's Climate Pledge Arena.
