In African Music... Everyone's focus is on the DRUMMER... Aside keeping pocket, u must freely express urself to the best of ur abilities otherwise u don't deserve to be behind those drums .... Same applies to the percussionist (especially djembe or conga players)
That's awesome. Definitely opening my eyes and ears and thinking on drumming
Truth be told in African American music it is the same with the focus on the drummer. And others but especially the drummer. Thats why so many of us grew up in church surrounding the drummer. The onky thing is in recent history too many who were exposed to the "pros" told us to calm down and pocket this pocket that so things ended up getting a bit "tamed" of sorts unless you are soloing/sheding
In african music..Everyone's focus is on the ENTIRE MUSICIANS
@@donaldsonjones1126 the keyboardist 🎹 horns 🎺 guitarists 🎸🪕 can play any nonsense in the course of the music & go FREE but as a drummer u can't... coz u're driving the entire pulse of the rhythm... just a little thing off & everyone's attention is drawn to u even from people who don't have musical ears
@@raston_ i Wholeheartedly agree that drummers are the drive of the beat..but that was before LOOPS and STEMS were created..now drummers can be flexible
Josh i love the fact that you understood that our style of music is different from yours. That alone makes me really respect you
this comment here, brilliant, you tend to get "experts" who think music styles are exactly the same in every country.. certain genres are just different, so you play different sometimes, but still with a bit of groove discipline
Fax!!
African style are really different. . ❤
African music is still the best and very unpredictable. The energy is crazy. It’s not for the faint hearted lol 😂. I love that fact that you respect ✊ different culture of music that’s not yours. That’s humility man.
Victor Mosugu is a System to reckon with!!!
I don't think Victor Mosugu is going places, I think Victor Mosugu is the place! He's more than a student of his craft, he's a professor of his craft. Thank you Josh for shedding light on this amazing drummer...
Sometime in 2012/13 Mosugu and I were school mates in the university. I remember how dude will be sitting in front of me during a lecture and all he's doing is watch drum tutorials.. So happy he's shining as the star that he is... More grace bruhh
KSU student
Same here o, Mosugu and i rehearsed many times @ Royals chapel then, 2013/14.... So glad to see him excelling, he has invested a lot
The independence of this drummer is actually crazy, polyrhythms everywhere and it looks so effortless
Yeah you’re right but it’s a whole lot of fun
Yes! Been drumming since age 4. Influenced by African American Gospel music. Married a Nigerian woman. African drummers are so interesting. The polyrhythms are beautiful and so fun to play! Gotta have a good understanding of rhthym for sure.
I haven't seen Josh look this confused in a reaction before. Victor's one of Nigeria's top drummers. Crazy guy🙌🙌🙌🙌
It’s the fact that he blends western drum style with the Yoruba cultural expression of music from the drummer’s perspective that works wonders for me.
Victor takes you everywhere while enjoy worship in church. He gives you the ‘talking drum’ infused play with the advanced application of drum fundamentals
😅😅😅😅😅😅
He is Nigeria's top drummer
No one is better. Not even Marcus hassan
@@ChelseaTalk_Dallasit’s not only Yoruba. It’s from different parts of Africa. U need to know the patterns.
😂Joshua Crawford's facial expressions while watching Victor shed was funny. Much respect to you bro Joshua Crawford
This is Nigeria.... In our country the drummer is a story teller. Infact, everysong has a different story, the drummer is just there to do a recital of his best interpretation. Even the same drummer may not play the same thing twice. Its like a free rhyme poetry. You need to just enjoy it.
This is the best explanation so far
One of our most celebrated drummers in Nigeria so happy he made it to your reaction video
These drummers from our fellow African countries are definitely on another level Bro
The best Nigerian drummer out there, Mosugu Victor. He is also Davido's drummer when he is on tour in Africa countries
Victor Mosugu is one of the best drummers of Nigerian origin.
And for this particular video, I can feel it was his happiest day. I haven’t seen any of his videos with this kind of crazy expressions
I encourage you to do more research 😂
@@jessearyee6339 i was about to say the same thing ... Mosugu wey dey kolo
Do more research😂😅
Point of correction- Victor mosugu is the best drummer of Nigerian origin at the moment sir
I Respect Your Opinions Tho. But Bruh, This Guy Isn't Among The First 50 I've Seen. He Just Probably Has Social Media Presence. Marcus Is A Beast On The Drums
Man as a drummer i respect this man, the feel, the enthusiasm, the passion, the love he has for what he's inspires me all the more
Literally an encyclopedia of lessons on rhythm in one session.
I'd love to go to their country and just learn from them not only chops but culture!! This is dope!!! 🔥🔥🔥
You’re welcome to Nigeria, I can sure link you up with some of the top guys here
@@groovereben Ok for sure!! When I'm able to, I'd like to visit.
Victor was just having way too much fun 😁😊👌🏽
Yeah....u are welcome anytime
Come to Ghana bro
Man…this dude is blazing. You’re completely right. I’m a keyboardist who has had to do extensive work with various African cultures, and one thing that I learned earlier is that their definition of pocket (especially pertaining to drummers) is totally different from what we deem pocket in America. To be fair, rightfully so! Who better to explore / exploit the possibilities of rhythm than Africans? I love it!!
U can see this type of laying in many parts of africa.
I play keyboard too and all I could think was where is the bassist to help keep him in line 😂
It's probably a bass player that's letting him be free with his playing. I hate a tight pocket takes all the fun out of playing.
Is it me, or does this guy remind you of a Pure African, Chris Coleman? The goofiness, the energy, the speed, and playing with authority!
I thought so too and watching some of his other vids CJ Thompson too
I’ve been waiting for this review since forever…..I’m definitely more excited than Victor himself 😂😂
In Africa the drum sounds the loudest, Nigeria in particular has over 200 tribes. Trying to fuse in grooves from each tribe while playing makes us this dynamic. It's safe to say we're not dynamic enough even😊
Bro I've been digging their approach to drum parts. We can't assimilate our culture to theirs. They have a completely different flow over there. I love it. Their drummers and bass players are from a different planet.
i love going to african churches, their energy is always so infectious, and s as a musician their music is mad groovy!
Mosugoooood❤❤❤
Glad to finally see him here! 🎉
So glad as well!!🔥🔥🔥
My boss 🙌🔥
Good afternoon @TochSticksMusic. Can you do a breakdown of the groove Mosugu played at 3:42
Yes o, reppin the 234🇳🇬😂
@@biomedunilag2788 I already did that months ago
For you to play in a Nigerian church you must be able to express yourself and show why you are different, you can't just get on the drums and copy and paste grooves you have to be unique. For example a church can have three drummers and you will feel the difference when each person gets on drums because each drummer has his or her own identity.
If you can't find expression in a Nigerian church then you can't find it anywhere else because there are so many genres we incorporate into our gospel music, the groove at the 4:20 mark is an Afro beat groove by the Legend late Tony Allen.
True man...
Victor is one crazy amazing nigerian drummer, even me as a nigerian drummer I listen to him sometimes and I'm like dude where is all this coming from. He brings it this crazy pockets, groves thay can confuse u 😂
This guy mix nigerian praise with salsa and then American praise jam, he is really crazy
Victor mosugu ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
His application of different drum techniques and making it all sound Nigerian/Yoruba is what excites most of us.
He has mastered that art.
9:30 where's that kiss going to😂😂😂
It’s just the way Mosugu creates his own groove, that you only hear from him is what I can’t still phantom 🔥
I knew this was eventually gonna happen man❤❤❤❤. Thanks Josh💯. Mosugood all the way✌🏽🔥🇳🇬🇳🇬
He is just a product of constant rehearsals and perfection .. he has had his style for years and maintain his vibes during play .. he has played while standing even blindfolded etc .. for years victor has been a bad ass drummer 😺. Good he is getting the recognition 🎉
We have to admit the fact that mosugu is the G.O.A.T🐐of Nigerian church drummers 😮💨😮💨😮💨😊
Wow wow wow Wow. This is mind blowing 💯💯💯 eventually our special groove locker,,,,,mosugu Victor made it to your reaction videos... So happy
Mosugu. Was privileged to share stage with him in Ilorin Kwara state Nigeria. That guy is a beast. ❤
Victor Mosugu ia s beast on drums. My best drummer in Nigeria
Amazing reaction Josh! This has been long overdue😅😅… I think you should also react to the one he played at COZA….
I swr
That was the new years video....he was spitting fire. I'm glad he's getting this reaction 🎉
Lol. Uncle Victor wasnt even playing serious here self ahahahah.. uncle was just having fun ahahaha..
Bless u brother.. more grace to minister more and bless lives with ur drums❤
Excited that you featured this side of Victor and not the recording and session side. It's very examplary of Nigerian praise music. Our praise session are usually spontaneous and comprise multiple genres of music so don't expect a pocket. You can change grooves 3 times in the same song as the music requires. I assure you, most of those transitions weren't even planned. It's just something you pick up playing Nigerian praise.
There's a lot of traditional Yoruba percussion breaks that everyone has to learn at some point. They are called Alujo. You usually play along with a talking drummer, omele, bata and congas. He did a very famous one from Lagbaja, an extremely accomplished Nigerian artiste of the late 90s and early 2000s. Listen for it at the 10:58 mark. He does the break from Lagbaja's Konko Below.
Generally, quoting other artiste's breaks and vamps gets the crowd praising and dancing (they are familiar with most) and makes you "cultured" in musical circles.
U can tell he is in the anointing , love it. Especially praising God is lovely
Aside from Marcus, Mosugu is another beast over here in Nigeria❤
Marcus na demon for drums ooo😫😫😫😫
abi werey. have been watching most of his stuff and can't seem to see him repeat his leaks
Baby kelo
This is one thing about drums, nobody knows it all. Like he rightly said, Culture and dynamics makes individual drummer's versatility unique. I thought I knew how to play drums Until I relocated to Ghana, I was schooled bro. Anyway big ups 👍to Boss Mosugu, outstanding strokes. And thanks for checking him out.
Naaa mehn!!!!! Victor Mosugu has the African groove on lock and key mehn. He is super locked on the African groove. Super top drummer. Shout out to @VictorMosugu.
Geeessh! The bass player has to be just as nuts as the drummer!!!✊🏿🔥✊🏿🔥✊🏿🔥
Whassup Josh! Man thanks for the reaction to a different type of music than our western ears are used to. Your words about musical and cultural differences are spot on, and I think it would be an amazing podcast for you and some other seasoned bros to talk technique, groove, placement, pocket and role of the drums in other countries.
Victor is crazy and very expressive! Someone shoulda warned you😂. He’s very independent of time signatures with his grooves and chops!
Mosugu is in top two Nigeria drummers. He understands sound, very precise and not just playing chops for chops sake.
Who’s the other guy Marcus?
@@isaiahnyasha2883Benjamin whose band is the "cavemen". They are not just drummers but musicians that understands sound.
@@isaiahnyasha2883 Marcus is one of Nigeria's best drummer
@@godswillekanem4924true who do u think is better btw mosugu and Marcus
@@Batman_33 I won't say one is better than the other but everybody knows how Marcus is creative,he has this unique speed and he uses all kinds of rudiments to do his chops.
Marcus is a beast and he has gone viral even the white guys are watching his videos.
I am also a drummer who is looking up on this guy's so I won't say Marcus is better than mosugu but if I want rate in my own chart.
I.ll say
1.marcus
2,Benjamin
3.babykelo and victor mosugu
4 shaba and we also have alot of good drummers which I won't be able to mention all of them
😂😂 I love how Josh looks surprised and lost a lot of times in the video..
And I love what you said about different cultures, Nigerian drummers are one of the best you should look out for...
Victor mosugu is one of the best pocket drummers we have, he only plays like this when he chooses to go all out and be crazy just like this new year service video...
Glad to have Victor in my team at House On The Rock. He’s the best 👌
Hey my boss and team leader.thanks for helping me grow so much under your leadership.🙌🏽
@@mosuguvictor4142 thanks Victor 🙏🏼
If you are listening to the drums from inside of the drum booth you may not particularly like or enjoy what he is playing but when you listen to it from outside the drum booth or you are in congregation, you will really enjoy what he is playing.
Interesting way of saying that.. because it is randomized to me..
@@djbministry It definitely sounds best in a mix with other instruments. It might sound random, but when done right by a group of musicians who truly understand it, there is nothing else like it. To make it clear though. this performance right there isn't normal or average. He's a special drummer and this was a special performance; he took things to 11. He's typically a lot more disciplined in his approach, but in this case he was allowed to go wild + loops/backing track in the background help to hold things down.
@adedejijohn2558 Please do you know what church he was playing at over maybe I can find the video with Everything mixed
@@DaveDeyChophouse on the rock Lagos
Its the first time i hear a drummer play thats styles that way 🫣🤩
8:13😂 the laugh of Joshua, went he saw the flow of Mr victor
Yes. Now its time.. lets fight. We have our champion. Let North America bring its Finest drummer. Let him fight on the drums with Our Man. 🤣🤣😛😛😛
#@mosugu victor is the best, i so much love his play...
Me being a person who consumes african music like afro beats, amipiano etc you grow a custom to the different pockets and the difference in how they count their music. I love it!
Victor Mosuguuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😭🔥💯 I'm super excited for him❣️❣️❣️❣️ love you victorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Victor Mosugu locks it down here in Nigeria 🇳🇬 the most! Well respected all over the country, he's a connoisseur of his craft!
There are two kinds of drummers actually, those who play the drums and those who enjoy playing the drums😂. The guy is simply enjoying the drum while the drums begs for mercy
We give the best. Thanks for acknowledging this fact. We're deeply expressive and loaded.
Victor Mosugu is a crazy drummer and mehn!!! He definitely is very creatively crazy
Joshua looked very confused 😂😂😂😂 at the beginning 😂😂
Hello from Poland
you can see right away, he was inspired by God
NICE!. First comment.
I lowkey been waiting for this. Victor is machine🔥
The groove he’s finessing at 3:39 is CRAAAAZY 🔥 that is not easy bruh.
i been playing for 25 years and no it is not easy at all.
Yay 🎉
You should also check out shaba segun..
One energetic drummer you dont want to miss from Nigeria
Incredible drummer period ! I love African Praise and Worship and glad I ran across this video. He is having a ball and never misses a beat ! Will have to check him more ! :-) Thank you for sharing.....
Victor Mosugu!!! Afro groove on lock!🔥🔥
i recommended him to Josh and thnx man for the respect
Nigerian drummers are just so versatile! Damn!
I love what you said how western culture gets to sensitive & thinks things should be ONE way… so good bro! Love this! And yea they be straight killing!
IKR!!! Thanks Jazz!!! 😆✊✊

my love for this guy is crazy
Mosugu fireeeeeeeeee🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
FINALLY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for reacting to our drummers video. We enjoy what we do.❤
Victor!!! Mosugu!!! One of the best in Nigeria... My favourite
Drummer is 🔥, Music is 🔥, and the praise team/choir is 🔥. What song are they singing? I want to look it up. There are some similarities bc of the universal language of praise music, but I love and respect the cultural stylistic differences. They add a different flavor to the music. Thanks for doing this video Josh. You just put me on to something new and different.
I'm not sure that you'll see our song's on the net but I can help you out, with the song's if you want.

Sounds AWESOME! That’s all I can say! I was very impressed with this drummer’s style and the music was very moving! Thanks for posting his video!
This is Nigeria!!!
We proud of Nigeria!!! 🇳🇬
He is among the best drummers in Nigeria and one of my favorites. He is my friend
One of the best in Nigeria 💯🔥🔥
Best in overplaying!!!
Nigerian drummers combine talking drum skills, conga skills and other African percussion skills and ideas when sitting on that 5 or 7 piece drums. Africa is the home and source of rhythm. We are a crazy bunch. We aren’t conventional.
Victor is a beast in all genre.Joshua I would I like you to check out more if his video he kills music in our side of Africa.I respect your style of music but one thing about Nigerian gospel musician is that we add dynamics to our music.Much to you Joshua for reacting to this video ❤❤❤❤❤

I don't even understand the groove and I can tell he's getting it! Straight fire! Makes me want to learn their style.
Oh yah o boy is a beast on drums
Let that African drum speak🔥🔥another thing about Africa music especially in the church is that its played in mrdleys and at times each part of the medley has a different feel hence the differrnt drum beat dialects and transitions
Love that different style of music 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Omo..... Mosugu was high in the Holy Ghost because whatttttttttt?
Never seen him like this
Pocket,,,is what's up,over playing is ego? Less is more
