The Avatar Series That NEEDS to be Made

- Avatar the Last Airbender is one of the greatest cartoons of all time. Following the cast of Aang, Zuko, Sokka, Katara, and Toph, the show presents mature themes and emotionally evoking writing. On top of that, the world of bending gives a rich sense of unique fantasy unable to be found outside of the Avatar universe.
In this video Avatar video, Hoodie offers a unique take on the future of the series, providing analytical reasoning for a why a future series following characters like Azula and Toph would lead to a great story. Characters like Zuko, Sokka, and Katara have all completed their beautiful, well crafted arcs. And while Hoodie believes that there is beauty in Toph's simplicity, there is more room for story to be told. This would be a series that takes place before The Legend of Korra, detailing the events of the 70 year time skip that happens after Avatar the Last Airbender.

ozai was not father material or brother material or son material or husband material
Danielle Mercado true the most action he had was the last episode and when we got the little zuko throwback we just judge how bad of a father he is. Also that’s when I knew why azula is the way she is that shit run in the genes 😬
Or human material
It's like being 3rd generation of following your family's legacy sort of loses its flavors eh

MrSkeazy I like cant blame him because his father was also strict and a bitch like his grandfather when avatar Roku didn’t want to help him but at the same time I don’t blame him like he could have just change
If Azula was to have a redemption arc it would take at least 3 seasons
I’d watch it

Well,it took zucko that much
@@andreiaromanesei9270 Is that Mark Zukerberg's character in ALTA? :P
Eh. Maybe they coud reveal that a new villian. Maybe a evil avatar. If there woud be a season 4 where aang needs to master secondary elements like blood bending, metal bending, maybe introduce sound bending, And maybe also lightning bending. But then again. We woud need to make the evil avatar op cuz aang coud go avatar state. So maybe the evil avatar is as strong as avatar state aang. So aang needs to get a bit stronger. Which can make his avatar state a bit better. But tbh it woud proabably be repetetive.
Azula going mad at just 14 years old is just so tragic
When you have everything “don’t lose your head do-do-do- don’t lose your head” ayyyyy
@fjf sjdnx how in hell is the show supposed to take place in the time of the roman empire? Please study your history. According to technological development in the show this could be paired with late 18th to early 19th century! And note that this is a totally different world with a completely different history. Also you van see in the show that ppl live to be far older than 50.
@fjf sjdnx That timeline wouldn't make much sense though. Someone already mentioned some of the flaws with that theory, but I'd like to add the time skip between ATLA and Korra. LOK takes place after ATLA, and not only do we see characters from ATLA at ages far past 50, but the time period of LOK seems to be inspired by the 1920's-1930's. So the occurrences of the original series _definitely_ did _not_ take place during a time as far back and ancient as the Roman Empire.
I thought she was sixteen
@fjf sjdnx the fire nation had coal-powered ships. that didn't exist in the roman's time. in fact, it's more like early industrial revolution age

It pisses me off that we're getting a live action remake of ATLA instead of a new animated story with a new Avatar. I think being animated works better for avatar but if they want to do live action fine, but why couldn't they just give us a new story even if it's not canon.
If they do a remake with a new avatar it’ll most likely be terrible. I think they should do a series with young iroh to be honest lmao
@@aspoon3695 Remember that the original creators will adapt the show, not like that 2010's movie
GregPaulCumminAtYa I agree that it wouldn’t be as good as ATLA or LOK, but I don’t think it would be terrible. People are going to complain a lot because of nostalgic reasons and the want for aang to be mentioned. These complaints would essentially make this new avatar worse than LOK and ATLA
I completely agree. It is impossible to do ATLA justice in live action. Honestly I would rather them not make anything at all then this stupid cash grab that is only gonna serve to slander the whole series. I wish I could meet whoever made this decision so I can beat their ass.
@@jorgeatayde3485 if you actually knew anything about ATLA you would not be saying this. A big reason its story is so amazing is because they use methods to portray information to the viewer that need animation. Not only is it impossible to make a live action ATLA anywhere near as visually stunning, but It completely destroys the way characters portray emotion. This results in the actors trying to imitate an animated like demeanor, which comes across as cheesy (like the movie), or they act like live action actors, which completely changes how the viewers see the character. People like me who have watched every episode countless times are going to see characters we "already know", as completely different people. I know what you are thinking, "he's complaining for nostalgic reasons", but the fact of the matter is that this will cheapen and slander ATLA. It is going to be a completely different story with completely different characters, trying to pass its self off as the same story with the same characters. This is commonly known as a knock off. People like you who know very little about the show will watch it and think less of ATLA. It wont make sense because the whole world was designed to be portrayed through animation.
They need to make a new animated series because let’s be honest everything that is live action is nothing compared to the animated series
I tought I was the only one to think like this. To my mind, animated series must stays animated
It's easy to make an animated spin-off from a live action thing (like star wars), but really hard to make a live action spin-off of an animated one.
@@allmightyisthelord9459 Bending is too tricky to make live action, its gonna look bootleg unless a company like Marvel makes it
Agreed, on one hand I'm hopeful, because if the live action series works, maybe they would make season 4 from the comics and maybe a 5th with Azula's redemption arc (would watch the FUCK out of that). On the other, well, there's the Avatar movie and... yeah...
Also because the type of action that is typical of the Avatar universe is best expressed through animation. The "live action" adaptation would really have to be so heavily augmented with CGI that it may as well be 3D animated, which defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Seriously I loved Azula and I felt incredibly sorry for her during her meltdown. She was brainwashed by her dad who she thought loved her but she was just a pawn for Ozai in his plan for world domination.
Honestly I kind of cried a little with her when that happened. To see such a powerful person break down like that. Broke my heart. Didn't even get a traditional villain defeat.
I hated that bitch
I agree and I admire the creators' skill in Azula's depth. I used to hate Azula, but during that episode, I cried over her fate. I don't remember any antagonist I've cried for in a long time except Azula. So well-made!
I can't imagine the life you'd have to live to be able to relate to that awful excuse for a human. I'm truly sorry and I hope you receive the help you need.

I feel like what makes the last Airbender so good is the fact that it develops the supporting characters more than the actual protagonist of the story, aang. The show really develops “team avatar” and allows the audience to connect w the characters that allowded aang to be who he is. Which I think is rlly good as they are probably the ones who acc deserve all the attention, as without them aang wldnt be who he is...
I disagree. I think Aang is well developed as a character. He starts out unsure about being the avatar--he literally ran away from his responsibilities. But by the end of the series we see Aang waiting for Ozai, ready to take him on. He accepts his fate as the avatar and manages to take him down without straying from his principles.
I don't understand how you can say Aang is nothing without his friends. That's untrue, sure they all help better one another, but when Aang's values and principles were challenged he found the solution himself (he took away Ozai’s bending, instead of killing him like everyone told him to do.)
But you're right on the account that all characters were thoroughly developed and fleshed out, but Aang isn't an exception.
@@highsun76 ye this person smokin
I agree with Russian Bot, because what he said was true, and I also agree with you, because the show did an excellent job of developing every character, from katara to cabbage man. And no, Im not joking, cabbage man got developed over time, because eventually he had his own company. But anyways, Aang may be the most developed because he goes through a lot of stuff. Maybe not more than Zuko, but almost. And when the world depended on him, and his friends told him to kill Ozai, he found his way, just like russian bot said. Also, he did all of this with conflict of being friendzoned.
I thought toph becoming the chief of police was her way of staying close the the gang and so she can be the melon lord of republic city.
That makes more sense than the entire Korra story.
I thought it was because of metal bending
That, and also possibly because she just likes telling people what to do
@@grammarpolice6822 She doesn't really though. That's more Katara's thing.
Yep that makes waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy more sense
Azula is probably the most tragic character in ATLA besides zuko. She was quite literally born to be a present to Firelord Azulon in hopes that Azulon would pass on Ozai as his heir to the throne after witnessing her power.(at least that's what I think) she wasn't raised with love or kindness, She was raised relentlessly to train and to become powerful. The only person who could have helped her was Azula's mother, but she saw azula as a monster she was being made to become. Azula wasn't raised to be a person, but a weapon, to be used by Ozai whenever he needs it, just to abandon her.
James Budd I agree
Maybe her story is even more tragic than Zuko's. For a deeper analysis, I recommend this video: czcams.com/video/R4544ZUr_gA/video.html

Both comics "The Promise" and "The Search" could make for a very good season 4
Honestly, the writing of those comics disappointed me. Azulas arc wasn’t satisfying, and something about them wasn’t right. “Imbalance” was written far better imo
It was supposed to be season 4 but it got scrapped when the movie flopped harder than a fish out of water
@@largenaq2935 honestly I agree. The characters didn’t feel like themselves. The author said he had trouble writing everyone apart from Toph and it really shows.
@@ayoogunsakin9223 I think the basic plot is pretty good, but the dialogue suffers a bit. I wish Katara and Sokka were given a bit more to do as well. However, compared to most comics, I think the ATLA ones are engaging and pretty faithful to the original (especially compared to stuff like the Star Wars comics). I'd definitely want to see a sequel show/movie that partially includes the comics.
@@ayoogunsakin9223it would’ve been better if he had a partner to help flesh out the story like Faith Erin Hicks(the current comic writer) since she pretty much understands the characters pretty well. Though I haven’t seen her write Zuko aside from an illusion of him in Azula in the Spirit Temple so I don’t know she’d handle him.
i always thought Korra would have worked alot better if it was a few centuries post-ATLA, more Avatars between Aang and Korra.
Agreed, having Korra be the next avatar after Aang just made it super sad to watch
they wanted to show how bending would work in a more developed sociaty even though i did like the show of korra i do think they could have made it alot better and brought it up to the same lvl of atla.
@Miss Lady Shana no problem. i value everyones opinion about the show. i think alot of people make alot of good points about the mistakes of the show. for me it still is avatar and i still like it. eventhough you cant compare it to atla since it is so different. all im saying is it didnt have to be. as for my spelling mistake. i knew i made a spelling mistake but was to lazy to correct it so i left it there not thinking anyone would care.
Miss Lady Shana while I agree Korra is bitchy, Aang was just as of a “Mary sue.” He became a master of air bending at a young age to point where he got his tats, and he mastered all 4 elements in a span of 6 months. If Korra started training at age 5 and trained to master all 4 elements at 17, how is she more of a Mary Sue than Aang?
@Miss Lady Shana your making it bigger than it is. i think its a fun dinamic. ang struggles with certain things but airbending came super natural for him. if you actually went a little deeper every avatar can bend pretty easy and never have had such a big block as korra. i recently read the rise of kyoshi and from when she knew she was the avatar she became very good at bending very quickly. even faster than aang and korra. aang took a year. korra took from 4-5 to like 16 years to master 3 elements. and kyoshi learned alot about the elements and was actually already realy good at it in a month. she learned everything (not masterd) all 4 bending styles (air the least) and fully masterd the avatar state. in a month. i know the serie of korra has flaws but its still fun if you open yourself to it. i think korra has things that are better than in aangs show. evenouthough i think atla was the best show i have ever seen
i remember watching azulas defeat for the first time and wonder why i was genuinely sad watching her mentally break down and begin to almost cry for her. now that i'm older I understand that she idolized her father and wanted nothing but his approval and it lead to her demise when he tossed her aside after she had done all he needed from her. He failed her as a father and isolated her from her mother so she never got the nurturing and love from her mother and the peace and order a good father would give. zuko still remembered the affection of his mother and had Iroh to fufill the role of that father figure, while she hes had none and was manipulated. Tragic fate for a young girl
I don’t know why but I liked watching her fall and Zuko taking back his right
I disagree that ATLA lies on the strength of Zuko. All the characters are fantastic, not just Zuko.
I think he definitely is what propelled the story the most
Aang really isn't anything special though but yea most of the characters are great.
I agree, aang and zuko weren’t near my favorite characters, I appreciate zukos arc and I think aang fills the right space, but that’s what makes this show so great and as loved by so many, even if one main character doesn’t hit for you, there are so many more to make the show addictive and enthralling
Disagree but you're entitled to an opinion
*THANK YOU!!!* Growing up watching the show I didn't think much of zuko's arch, not until I started watching stuff about the show on the internet about 5 years ago did I realize people are obsessed with him.
I was forced on what would become of sokka and katara, sibling who left everything behind to help a boy they just meet fight a war that's not their problem. Sokka not a bender and katara who can barely bend traveling the world and preparing to go up against one of the best benders in the world and his countrie's army.
I'm always interest in the character who have little to gain or lose, and little to do with the fight/no reason to fight, but still risk their lives.
Aang have to fight, he's the avatar, and zuko was forced to fight, but sokka and katara didn't have to risk their lives. But they did because they believed in what's right to them.

i've always loved how immensely talented azula was, and the crazy lightning bending and psycho character made her one of the best villains with actual depth and substance.
I wish Aang was given an opportunity to redeem himself against Azula. Although defeating Ojai would always be more impressive, she almost killed him and it would have been nice if she was humbled by the Avatar eventually. What they did with Katara beating her was awesome though so
It would have been interesting to see that in a potential redemption arc she loses the ability to bend lightning due to the turmoil within herself like the challenges zuko faced.

I wish they did that before korra. Now that they are making a remake it is even worse. I think they needed to fill out the loose ends with 1 or 2 seasons before they made korra or the remake.
hawkens animations yes, but how many people of the general public want comics to fill out the loose ends of the story. People want to see more seasons of the show. I can understand extremely loyal fans of the show don’t care as long as they get the story, but the loyal fans are just a small percentage of ATLA viewers. Also noting how popular it is right now to the generation that watched when they were young ( my gen) and the newer generations starting to watch it, ATLA might just make a lot of money off new seasons.
The legend of korra was not the reason why they didn't make another season of avatar the last airbender. The movie was...
The reason they never made season 4 of ATLA is the same reason they never made the 4th Lord of The Rings movie. The story ended with the defeat of Ozai and the ascension of Zuko, it's over. What would season 4 even be about? There is a reason the comics are about team avatar splitting up and going on their separate journeys.

He does
Exept he fights by using his cabages and pushing his kart
We need him to create a fifth type of bending. Cabbage bending.
Earth. Water. Fire. Air. Cabbages.
Water, earth, fire, air, cabedge, BOOMERANGE
Toph's and Azula's stories sound good, no doubt, but I'd also like to see:
1. The next Avatar is an earthbender, whose signature/special move is levitation. Chronologically have the story set in "the 1990s/2000s".
2. ATLA season 4/LOK prequel: The 70-ish years after the war, before Korra.
3. An antholgy series about the past Avatars.
4. Iroh: Origins, but done right.
You felt the ending between Aang and Ozai was "ANTICLIMATIC"?!? Are you serious? That's one of my favorite scenes in the entire Avatar mythos! Aang energy bending! Blew my mind!!

@@crystala7x182 he means it wasnt as climactic as an ending for the next main character in the series, zuko. zuko had just as much of a role in the series as Aang but didn't get the end he deserved, and a giant cliffhanger was left with him needing to learn more about his uncle and help to fix the wrongs of the fire nation past just putting his dad and sister in prison. It never shows the steps he took to make peace with the Earth Kingdom or what he did with the Fire Nation colonies (though those are explained later). Anyone? Just me? Alright then.
This might be a hot take, but I personally believe that rise of kyoshi is the avatar series reaching it's full potential
One of my favourite parts about this idea is that you could call it "The First Metalbender", or "Avatar: The First Metalbender" to represent that Toph is the protagonist and how her unique skills will drive the story and change the world in the same way that Aang's did in the original series. It also establishes a stronger thematic line between this theoretical series and the original than a title like "Avatar: the Legend of Toph", or something.
I've also always thought that a show exploring what happened more immediately after the original Avatar (maybe 10 years after or so) would have made for a much more engaging new show than the far future show that we got - creative as LoK was. All in all, great video and concept!
Further idea: add Azula in as the villain, somehow manipulating things from inside prison, and have her eventually change due to Toph's growing authoritarianism. She sees her own actions creating a metal bender who is getting more and more brutal, and have some heart wrenching moment that Azula becomes aware of where Toph gives her twins the treatment Ozai gave his kids. At Azula's admission of guilt and resigning herself to grow, or at least be self-aware enough to try to prevent herself from occurring again, Toph realises how far down the rabbit hole she'd gone and quits to live in the wilds, free to live her own truth.
GOD I WANT TO SEE THAT KIND OF AN AVATAR SERIES

@@idppon8166 phenomenal episode. Mine would be the beach lol, it’s not the best, but i love how it humanized azula.
I'm just imagining Azula's series to be dark, almost horror like (kinda like the route they are taking in the New Muntants, taking X-Men to a more horror genre) and seeing the life in the boiling rock. It could be also same as Zuko but grimmer, where instead of having a person help you, she herself experiences the hardships, the things Zuko might have experience when he was exiled with a dash of hallucinations here and there. The way she would change is by experience.
I cant imagine an experience that could change her for the better. Its hard to keep in mind that she was only 14 in the series and is already so damaged.
@@tenmark7055 Honestly agree to that.. sometimes the damage done to a person breaks them beyond repair..
That would kinda fit in since the story matured from being kind of childish in season 1
Don't mix up Azula with Marvel ~ Azula was my favorite character in Avatar and while I'd love her to get her own story....I'd be devastated if they fucked it up!
Marvel just sucks ass lately; nothing but fan boys defending a watered down franchise.
*Like what was the last Good Marvel Movie- The Original Spider Man, Dare Devil,
you gotta go at least a decade back in time to find a good Marvel Movie now it's just all CGI and Explosions oh sooo coool...NOT!!!
Like her slow decent into insanity just showcasing her mind in a dark, unsettling way. When they started to dive deeper into Azula’s storyline in the last season (? I haven’t watched in ages) it showed a whole different side of the ATLA universe, which was so good.
Spinoffs featuring a young Uncle Iroh, a young Monk Gyatso, or even a story that expands upon the upcoming close friendship of an older Aang and Firelord Zuko would be awesome!
In my opinion the main faults of korra were the characters being bland, also being in their 20’s which doesn’t match the tone of ATLA. The other fault is that Korra was right after Aang and she mastered the elements too quickly. She was too powerful, we got to watch Aang grow. We didn’t get to watch korra grow.
The steampunk was a turn off along with the wannabe utopian city
There was no character development for anyone in the show besides Korra but with ATLA every character was pretty much their own different thing that you couldnt truly compare to another but with the new cast all you got is loverboy fire bender, bi polar water bender and cuck lord goofy boy earth bender wanna be Sokka no stand outs, nothing particularly enjoyable or different about any of them and just a pale imitation of the original show. To me its disappointing especially since they had amazing plot ideas but did nothing good with them they just ruined it with bland characters
You quite literally said exactly what everyone was thinking lmao
i get that some of the characters were bland because the seasons were too rushed but tok wasnt meant to match atla. you cant expect the show to be the same dude. then it would be super boring. its about korras adventures with her friends and the villains they faced. she definitely wasnt too powerful because she had a good amount of moments where she got knocked down and had to find her way back up. every one of her enemies had an impact on her mental state and she had to overcome it. she actually took longer than aang to master the elements. he was considered a fully realized avatar after a year and korra took 16 years. we didnt watch her grow as a child but we watched her in her prime and in the time of her life where she had all her adventures. imo tok had some mistakes like how team avatar didnt get to their full potential as best friends but it still was a great show
Nigita Dragun I think that some of your opinions are correct but some of them are wrong I’d like to tell my opinions. I think the age difference is pointless I have known a lot of stories that has old characters but has a good arc as ATLA. And I think the effort that has put in Korra is something. To me, the season 1 and 2 of TLK are bad. Because there is no development. Nothing new in the arcs of characters. But season 3 and 4 has given me hope that this series could be better. What I mean is Korra and only Korra because only she really changed. How her spirit and her self believe is broken is season 3 and how she builds her self block my block is really the most significant thing that makes the series good. Whe really dive deep into Korra. Who she is how she sees herself and what she really is amd how she build herself. Wish they had done the same thing on the other characters. I saw potential in those characters yet they didn’t do something to improve them. Other than that I pretty much agree with you.(sorry for bad english it isn’t my native language)
“What would she see” he says about toph the blind girl
Toph would endorse that dark blindness pun
honestly I know it would kill the series but I wish season 4 came and showed aang growing up.
The way it went from Aang to Korra was garbage... I want story not theory crafting.
but anyways Toph best girl👌🏼
yep. i hate how they make these huge skips. even like 5 episodes for each stage of his life would have been great. but nah it just goes from kid to 4 y\o adult...
MyOpinionIsAFACT they didn’t make a fourth season because of that live action movie in 2010. So if we didn’t have that we would’ve gotten a 4th season of ATLA.
I agree, but Katara is the best sorry
@@iloveowls90 preety legit, but I admit even if I cried to death, I waa happy that the ending was the one I wanted.
Yeah if you don't read the comic's it really seems like big time jumps between aang and korra, but the stories that the comics tell are a big part of the preparation for korra's world and explains a lot of how cities started to show with loads of people from all nations, factories, etc. So it's not just a huge jump in the time
An Azula season?!? I'd be down for that top3 characters in Avatar for me.
I wish they did, the series left a lot of plot holes in Zuko's family, like what did Zuko's mother do for her to become a traitor, what happened to her?. What will become of azula?, is she going to spend her life in boiling rock?. How did Iroh meet the dragons and why?
@@jamesbudd3096 It was left absent and covered only in the sequel comics but a "plot hole" is a very different concept so no.
I feel like Toph could develop the “You want something done right. You gotta do it yourself” mentality when helping start the police force as well
I think Uncle iroh deserves a backstory, but I don't know if we're ready to see him before he was a "Changed man".
I mean, I don't know if I'm ready to see when iroh would kill earth benders, and command armies to destroy towns. He wasn't the Uncle iroh we know, he was a killer.
But I do want to know what happened to his baby mama. His son died, but did the son have a mom?
I see that idea popping up some times, and tbh I don't think that is a good one, mainly because of the topic you mentioned. Before his son's death, he was sort of an "Ozai lite", as in he actively pursued the fire nation's expansion, mainly Ba Sing Se. Then his son died and he changed his ways. Also, I don't think having anything about his past life would make that character justice, because it would also need to show everything that made him so wise. Don't get me wrong, if done correctly it would be the greatest piece of media ever done, but it has alot that can go wrong aswell. Some things are better left in the past.
@@Predalien3001 Some characters don't/shouldn't need/get backstories. I think he's a prime example.
It could be done well. Better I think to cover Iroh as the man prior to these engagements, who has probably been involved in the White Lotus since before his change of heart. To be as realised as he is portrayed in the real-life analogous traditions makes it certain. There is so much to cover there. He was probably already a “good-bad guy”, and was going through the big changes before the death of his son really marked his change. Such is the way of the change that the Daoist lineages that the white lotus is likely based off of.
But Mako is dead now, so stuff that.
I think if they continue with Azula's redemption arc, exploring Iroh's past before Lu Ten died could help a lot. Seeing how even he, a ruthless general who killed people in cold blood and brought cities down, could become one of the kindest, wisest and most spiritual men in the world could show her that it's not too late for her. That letting love in isn't gonna make her weak like she's always believed. But it will make her 10 times stronger.
@@mellemadswoestenburg1296 you know I think you'll right. At the time I thought I wouldn't want a show about iroh going from evil to being good, but in this day in age I think the world needs a lesson that even evil men can change their ways and be known as the best among good men.
I have a family friend who's known my mom and dad since before I was born, he was never evil but liked to fight a lot when he was young, now he's a gentle soul that is a good example of what a man should be, Glory to God.
I think this world needs a lesson about becoming a better person, even later into your years. I think we could use a show just like that, iroh and Azula learning to be good after being evil for all their lives.

a couple of crappy comic books?
but what about the story continuation in full scale comic series? About Zuko and his family, about the future of the fire nation and the world as a whole. And it has an Azula arc that fits her better than redemption one
Yeah a scooby doo villainjust screams Azula! :D
(I am about to start North and South so if I'm missing anything I apologize) I'm not sure about Azula's arc tho. At least for now she is just a loose end, with her little gang of "dark spirits" following her. I would much rather see her having a Zuko-like redemption arc, maybe not as "complete" (I don't think people could trust her the same way they did Zuko), but at the end of the day she is a broken person and it kind of pains me to see her just "dissaperaring" like that. Either that or she being actually defeated and put in jail like her father, no exits this time.
Azula's just doing petty crimes at this point in the comics. Definitely, doesn't suit the bone-chilling calculated Azula we all know from ATLA
Maaaan I would have loved a season dedicated to Azula's redemption arc
Honestly Sokka needs some love. He's almost completely ignored until season 4 of ATLA, and even then he only gets the spotlight a couple times. I'd very much like to see the tribal, genius warrior and tactician he might have become.
Are you high?
@@starchmarch3466 yeah like, wheres season 4 coming from?
You obviously know nothing about Avatar
There was a Season 4 for Avatar? News to me
You’re obviously not a real fan
I actually watched The Legend of Korra first, almost a year ago, and I just finished book 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and while so many people hate on Korra (except for Milo, he can step on a Lego), I felt it did a good job as a sequel, except for the love triangle, that was annoying.
I really think Legend of Korra is under appreciated and I believe a main reason for that is people keep expecting it to be the same as ATLA but we need to understand it’s a different era with different characters. LoK is as complex and deep as ATLA and it breaks my heart that it’s artistry isn’t being appreciated.
I honestly wish the series would have continued. I appreciate the comics so I’m not going to complain much before they take that away too lol. But there’s just something different when you’re seeing the whole story being acted out. The audiovisual experience is important to the story. I really REALLY hope the creators decide to make additional seasons. Honestly both for Korra and Aang.
I’m still very excited to see the development of their characters and stories in the comics. The comic creators are doing an AWESOME job with the plots and storylines. They really delve into struggles of post-colonial and post-war societies. Bravo to them
You don't have to compare it to ATLA to see it's not good. Just look at the story line, the character development, the Villains and the various subplots and you begin to realize it's not that great. It's amazing stylistically with the bending and the detail in the animation but the story falls flat.
I think my favorite part of LoK was Korra's development as a character. At first she's brash and naive, very headstrong.. also kind of a brat. But by the end, she's matured and tends to think before she acts more often, I mean she still has her impulsive moments but they occur less than in the previous seasons. I'm one of the few who actually really enjoyed LoK just as much as AtLA, and I do wish more people would give it a chance. Book 3 was my favorite of the seasons, and I tend to rewatch it fairly often lol
Couldn't agree more, delving into Azula's character and giving her a redemption arc would be amazing. Mostly because of the contrast in how Zuko goes through one by having had initially more influence/ love from their mother and later Iroh as a mentor and guide, something Azula never had, and indeed with Zuko being there for her, would nicely serve to complete his arc too.
As it stands, seeing how easily Zuko could have turned out different if circumstances had changed slightly. Plus those hints at Azula's morally good side and the moments she is shown to need help, but be too proud to ask for it, really make her eventual defeat and breakdown tragic and sad rather than satisfying. Probably my favorite villain of any series I've yet seen.
I feel like a new series should just be entirely new characters at this stage. Have it take place in a time where the Avatar is out there doing their thing but are never part of the main cast, just a recurring character that appears now and then, offers some wisdom. A fully realised Avatar. The main characters put their complete faith in them to keep the world at peace amidst growing conflict but then one day, that safety net, is no longer there.
The Avatar is defeated. Killed. And due to be reincarnated into the next cycle. There won't be another Avatar for at least 12 to 16 years or so. By then it'll be too late and now the ordinary, everyday benders we've been following realise that they can't just wait around and place all their hopes on this one person. It's up to them to do what they can to make the world a better place. A journey where they realise, THEY are in control, they drive their own destiny. They have a choice. They have the power to change things. No longer feeling helpless or a need to be saved or coddled by the Avatar. Now they must stand for themselves.
Oh and for the love of god, have it be in the past, back in the Asian-styled fantasy world rather than 1900's industrial era. Bring back it's uniqueness.
That are exactly my thoughts!
Bolin was a great character imo. It's nice having an optimistic character who sees good in everyone and everything. His love interests in the show was a problem tho

"The final conclusion between Aand and Ozai never quite hit that climatic high that I wanted out of such an amazing series"

On one hand I can admit it's a bit of a Lion Turtle Ex Machina but on the other I think it was amazing. Having Aang manage to find a way to stay true to his principles and find a pacifist way to end the war was great. It was one of his main flaws, that he was too passive and tried to find a way to avoid difficult choices,, violence and responsibiilty. And that's what Toph (and Zuko) needed to make him confront in order to learn Earth-bending and to take on Ozai. But in the end he found a way to combine everything he learned with the best parts of his air nomad discipline, and find a wisdom that surpassed the entire Avatar lineage. It was the moment he became a true hero.
Zuko vs azula fight was so fucking good

"the Avatar series that NEEDS to happen" Kyoshi! YES.
I also want to see Iroh's story. When his son died and he went into the white lotus. Supposedly he was supposed to have gone into the spirit world in his youth around this time too. This could be a good point to why he stays in the spirit realm in Korra and how he got so truly wise. Even if he's just telling this story to further guide Team Avatar.
I’m kind of happy Azula didn’t get an redemption arc I love her character the way she is already and I would’ve rather liked a 4th season were they do the zuko mom stuff and after have Azula be the main villain

Raava (and probably all the other avatars wouldn't allow that.
Here's how I envision Azula's redemption would play out: When Zuko visits Azula in the asylum, she taunts and mocks him for how weak he and the Avatar have become and predicts that Ozai will escape, help her escape and together they will have her revenge and finish what Sozin has started. Zuko calmly responds with the question, if Zuko and Aang were so weak, how come they manage to defeat them both even at there prime? He also states that Ozai doesn't even care about Azula or anyone of his family that even if he does escape, He'll destroy whatever dignity Azula has left and leave her to die in the asylum. Azula scoffs at the ordeal. Later, Ozai manages to escape as Azula predicted. Ozai stands in front of Azula. She gloats as she knew he'd find away and says let's out of this dump. Ozai hesitates and asks why should he. Confused, Azula told him so that she thought they'd finish what Sozin started and take vengeance on those who binded us. Ozai scowls and says he'll carry on that plan alone as he scorns her about how she had one job to do. just one. by failing it, she has brought disgrace and disrespect and will never gain honor and for that Ozai leaves her just as Zuko predicted. Desperate and devastated, Azula was blubbering like a baby as she begs him not to forsaken her like her mother and prove Zuko right. Ozai laughs at her squirming and up and leaves her to suffer and die. At that point, she has another episode, far worse then in agni kai with her screaming at the top of her lungs and a mix of fear, rage and sadness at there apex. Next week after no longer screaming, Azula is motivated with only rage, curses Ozai's name and vows to gain revenge on him only. by that point, nothing matters to him but killing Zeus, no matter who gets hurt. Azula has literally nothing left but revenge. She has gone on record stating that his need for vengeance matters more than the lives of innocent people. Much of the "heroic" acts attributed to her were done not out of any desire to defend the helpless but rather out of Azula's desire for vengeance. Ozai knew she'd come after him so long feng and Ozai teamed up (no, long feng is not gonna try to outsmart Ozai, since Ozai's the one who taught Azula everything she knows and that long feng has a personal grudge against Azula himself) and lured her into a trap, long feng does the brainwashing thingy on Azula but only uses it to force her to forever relive all her worst flaws, greatest failures, her most horrifying madness and every pain, misery, fear and hatred she inflicted on others throughout her entire life, in attempt to shred apart her mind, leaving her an empty husk. That's when Azula would reach her lowest point of her abyss and when she'd find Zuko and he'd put everything he learned from Iroh to the test. Zuko, along with the gaang, managed to rescue Azula. Zuko manage to speak to Azula telling her the quotes he can think of from Iroh and his speech ends with Zuko saying that he loves Azula and would give anything to save her. Zuko managed to snap her out of her torment zone but was extremely overburdened with guilt, grief, self-hatred, depression and anxiety for everything she's done and all of Zuko's wise and motivational words weren't helping. but then aang temporarily becomes a guru and helps her open her chakaras, She and Zuko would go to the fire temple ruins and learn the real ways of fire bending and even speak to avatar Roku and learn that there related and the real demise of Sozin, they'd also finally find there mother and accepting she really does love Azula and that Azula now loves her back. At that point she gave up her revenge, Machiavellian personality and desire for dominance and now wants to help bring peace and balance and defend the helpless along side aang like zuko did. But is still mentally broken and being hilariously oversharing, talkative, insanely wisecracking, addicted to fights and pranks, taking risks and breaking rules and would have two voices in her head that keep her morality in check. One is Joking and childlike, the other is serious and mature. Basically the personalities of Deadpool, Harley Quinn, Toph, Sokka and Zuko.

I would actually like to see a series of the avatar after Korra. Seeing as he will only have Korra to rely on for guidance.
I've actually seen a few people who are already working on something like this as a fan project, myself included, and it is a really interesting thing to think about. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but after korra losses the connection to her past lives she also lost the ability for the avatar to go back to past lives for guidance going forward. So going forward avatars will have to leave letters for future guidance 🙃
They should just make more season instead of live action

About Toph
I think where you said she learned the importance of authority through saving the world, it was actually in the graphic novel: the promise where she began teaching a metal bending academy she learned the practicality of metalbending and enjoyed tormenting her “little minions” as she put it, and imposing her will upon them
What if the next Avatar is an Earth King? And what if that Earth King is a tyrant? Without past lives to guide him, what if he decides to save the world by enforcing his will upon the entire world by force? A dominion of total order and control. That would be a series I would love to see. A villain Avatar, fighting a civil war perhaps, or a rebellion.
we need canon
Words can't express how much I'd like to see an Azula redemption arc. The comics are okay for what they are, but it seems like the writers are just backpedaling her narrative (more so in Smoke and Shadow). With Ozai gone, I can't see why she can't make the steps to heal and find happiness in life.
Family Firelord has the top three Altla best characters, Zuko, Azulo, Iroh (not sure what order)
I’ve ALWAYS wanted to see Zuko’s early life with his mom and everything
I even imagined a plot. The sequel is located approximately 30 years after TLOK to be able to see Sozin's Comet again. The antagonist would be a group of benders fed up with peace and taking control from within as infiltrators. They could be like the HYDRA of Avatar. Their leader would eventually become a kind of Elementor like that of Max Steel, because I can't imagine anyone else facing the Avatar than other "Avatar". And finally, one of the protagonists who helps the Avatar is Azula's grandson, a young orphan from the streets who knows nothing about his family's past and who is a firebending prodigy like Avatar Wan and who in one episode show himself as he meets and sees his grandmother Azula die, thus to finally close her arch.
I really would like to see, a 4th season where the new villain is actually our old pal Long Feng, think about it, the Dai Li are now bouncing around the fire nation in perfect position for a coup (almost as if that was intended), the Avatar has removed the biggest threat to the Earth Kingdom and the Earth King is out of play (for the moment). They could be a serious threat, and who better to take them down than the person who dealt with them beforehand, Azula.
As long as Clancy Brown returns to voice Long Feng, then I'm in
Not only Long Feng, they could have made an entire saga showing us the political turmoil that followed the war. Because it's pretty obvious most of the Fire Nation's military officers, high ranking politicians and even some of the common folk would see Zuko as a traitor to their country for wanting peace and would start conspiring against him.
Meanwhile the Earth Kingdom would still be riddled with corruption and poverty, its citizens feel abandoned and many of them would still view the Fire Nation with resentment and fear. There would also be tensions amongst the Northern and Southern Water Tribes as the southern tribesmen believe that their northern brethren abandoned them to their own fate, envy and resentment at the Northern Tribe's apparent prosperity would arise in the Southern Tribe which was almost wiped out during the war.
This would be the perfect scenario for the Earth King's former advisor and his secret agents to show up and use the rising tensions inside each nation to turn their citizens against each other, fuel the anger and resentment and finally overthrow their leaders and claim power for himself without the need of a full scale war.

9:43 "what would she see?" Nothing she's blind *insert gif of toph waving her hand in front of her face*
"Toph Befong? Police? You're kidding, right? I refuse to beleive it." Suki shook her head in disbelief.
Sokka shrugged "Well, whaddya know. She accepted. And now, she won't end up behind bars for beating up thugs."
(Basicly, she enjoyed a normal life, but started using her powers to beat up/stop crime. Aang, Zuko, and Sokka convinced her to join the police, and she grew to learn authorities place in the world, but at the end of i, decided it wasn't for her, and left republic city.)
Dude you are so right. There is so much to still be told in the ATLA story. Azula’s redemption...? DUDE YES. A redemption arc for one my favorite characters in all of television? Come on! Zuko’s search for his mother would be awesome to see. Seeing all of Team Avatar as young adults would be awesome! I’d absolutely LOVE to see Sokka grow into the legend he’s destined to become too!
My heart tells me I’d love a 4th season but my head says otherwise. I’ve seen too many popular shows become stale coz they try to drag out stories just for the sake of it.
One of the great things about avatar is it’s a fantastic story from start to finish and all our main characters complete their story arcs by the end. At the very start of the show u learn that Aang needs to master all 4 elements and save the world. In the final episode he does that, the world is at peace and all our characters are in a good place.
Yes Azula could possibly be explored more and Zuko looking for their mother but I don’t really feel like these are stories that need to be told or stories that would be a worthy continuation to the epicness and brilliance of the previous 3 seasons.
This will probably be an unpopular opinion and I can understand why coz part of me really wants to see more of avatar but I just think it might be better left as it is.
those shows were only ruined because they were already rounded and wrapped up. ATLA has so much more potential for the rest of the crews lives. its too good to be ruined. also i just can’t get enough of this show i’ve rewatched it like 30 times i want more 😈
I completely agree with this.
Better to not touch a masterpiece, lest one spoil it
I wan't a series on Avatar Roku since he was the second most avatar seen in Last Airbender or a series a couple of generations after Korra without the wierd spirit monsters and spirit bending or a series on The White Lotus
They can adapt the sequel novels The Promise, The Search, The Rift, etc into OVAs (using anime terms).
If we are to make a new Avatar after Korra then here's my proposition:
- Earth or Fire bender (depending on how much time we want to have passed), the world became so reliant on technology that bending has been getting weaker and weaker or there have been less and less benders and only the Avatar is at full strength, however he needs to learn from robots/holograms. Thanks to Kuvira's mech, there are now a LOT more mechs and we have bending in space.
I agree, I think the comics are great and delve deep into azula's psyche
The one true consistent thing of both avatar series are the villians. The protagonist were always hitting hard and were made almost to perfection.
I'm very late, but I would want book 4 to be split into two separate parts. The first would gloss over everyone's return to their new normal, taking a few episodes. Then it would skip ahead a few years. Maybe the fire nation is going through a civil war, the old guard rebelling against zuko. The gang gets back together to go help. It starts to feel like old avatar, but it's not much of s challenge anymore, and that is painfully obvious. The growing pains and joys they went threw in the first 3 seasons is no longer there. They all go back home. Here's where it gets tricky. Aang and katara get married, toph sees her home being poorly run, zuko makes a breakthrough in the search for his mom, and devotes all his focus to it. Idk about azula, though. Now for the rest of the season, every character goes through some internal struggle. Toph wants to establish order, but that would go against her anti-authority mindset. Zuko has to work through some inner turmoil to get his mom back, maybe through the spirit world? And aang and katara get depressed. Aang's power has peaked, and there's not some great looming threat. He's accepted his identity and responsibility as the avatar- but nothing compares to the mission of stopping the fire lord, it all pales in comparison. He feels like he's slacking, he has no meaning or life satisfaction. As the mom of the group, katara doesn't see her "kids" anymore. Only aang (and maybe sokka and suki? I haven't mentioned them because I don't know what to do with them) She loves aang, but sees his depression. And her being there for Aang certainly helps, but she can't take it all away, and that kills her.
Toph learns that some authority is needed for peace and prosperity. Instead of running from authority, she should stand up to make sure it's fair and just. Zuko forgives himself. I think in season 3, he might have accepted his past and moved forward, but he never forgave himself. He forgives himself (and maybe his dad and sister? Maybe that's how they're brought in, seeing zuko forgive them causes a transformation in them), and that self-forgiveness is what unlocks whatever spiritual thing is needed to find his mom. Aang and katara have a child and raise him/her. Aang learns that satisfaction comes not from doing some huge big thing, but by being the best version of yourself that you can be. Katara accepts that friendship and family dynamics change. If you focus on what you've lost, you'll never realize what you've gained. Also, you can't heal everyone's inner turmoil. You can unconditionally be there for them, though, and that is much more satisfying for her, and healthier for the people that she's there for.
A lot of movies and TV shows defeat the ultimate bad guy. They accomplish the goal everything has been leading up towards- and then it ends. The aftermath is never dealt with. In real life, though, there's not a fire lord to work up to, and it's easy to lose your way and life satisfaction. Season 4 would deal with normal life. It would evolve into the most touching book of the entire series, because it would be the most raw and real. And instead of being sad that the season ends, feeling like something is missing, we would be satisfied and know that we are what's missing. Us living our lives, us bettering ourselves. The way of Iroh is the way of ourselves
I really wish we could get a version of adult aang like that would be amazing
Isaiah Brown we basically did with tenzin
Nearly finished rewatching the series. Currently on Book 3 Fire, Chapter 17, The Southern Raiders, which I just finished. Such an amazing show.
The southern raiders is chapter 16. Chapter 17 is the ember island players.
Say what you will, but I would LOVE to see what happened with the adult Gaang. What was big Aang up to? What struggles did he have as a father? What about Sokka? Did he ever get meteor sword back? What about his kids, you can't tell me Sokka wasn't slinging that water tribe boomerang.
You are seriously so eloquent. Well done. I agree with you about almost everything.
