    Had a busy/stressful/productive first half of my day, and watching your calm, instructions to PERFECTION, with a promise if imitated, was just what I needed to relax and 'take me away....!' THANK YOU, MARTHA, FOR OUR DECADES-LONG RELATIONSHIP OF 'GIRL-TALK.' Since God called my darling home, its been a lonely time...except when 'friends' such as yourself 'visit' me. You've become such a valued part of American life...may God bless you in every way! : )

    Given what we know about the placebo effect, I wonder how many ailments were actually cured by onions. Martha would have dominated the medical industry back then with these recipes.

    Wait-the onions are pickled after 7 to 10 days? Or are they ready after 7 to 10 days? If the latter, how long do they keep?

      Anything carbonated will work like club soda. But it won’t have the beer battered ale flavors. The carbonation lightens the batter.

    I’m confused. You say to use Gruyère and Swiss cheese. Gruyère IS a Swiss cheese. So what other kind of Swiss are you using at the end?

    • @mikezylstra7514
      @mikezylstra7514 Před rokem

      "Swiss" in the US is a mild cheese very similar to mozzarella, really. Not sure what gruyere is.

      You need that for the "lean" beef they sell these days. It's like goat meat. I put my ribeyes in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes.

    No way Martha on the French onion soup. Yuk. A pewter crock works best, your onions are reduced to mush way over cooked and no thyme. Garlic and Worcestershire gives depth to the flavor. My choice for onion rings are a sweet onion. Soda water works better and season the batter for great flavors. Especially if you don't like the taste of beer and NO SALT! Sprinkle with dried parsley or cilantro instead. Red onions can be very strong, even stronger than white or yellow. Use pink Himalayan salt it's best overall for health. People over salt food. Finding the true flavors of a dish will amaze your taste buds. Try it.

      GOOD Caramelized onions take an hour for that many onions… if your using a good cognac, brandy, white white, etc. there is no need for Worcestershire sauce. Thyme is used in many five star restaurants today and many don’t use pewter crocks. I believe it depends a lot on what region of the country in which you are dining. Look up some recipes for good French onion soup and caramelized onions. She’s right on the money. Caramelizing onions and making a French onion soup similar to this will, if I may quote you, “will amaze your taste buds. Try it.”

      Yes. I have recently encountered red onions that were quite strong - like a yellow onion - not different, really. Not the red onions of yesteryear.
