I think he's being respectful. I find it inappropriate to say "Ahh, me and my love go to cafe..." in front of someone like your lover's family. It's more likely that you'll say "Me and -name-("Hyung" in this context) go to cafe.."

Similar to a relationship between opposite sex, same sex couples would support each other, care for each other love each other, appreciate each other and experience hardship together. A mom who sends food to her son and his partner is just the same as a mom sending food to her son and his wife. It is the same type of experience but a special one for those who experiences it...
